Opposites Attract

"Let them think you work here."

Vi looks behind her, moving her hands to shrug slightly. The red-head's voice is casual, like it should be the easiest thing in the world. But it's not, for Caitlyn. This isn't her world. She's from Piltover, not the Undercity. And now she had to act like working here was normal?

"Excuse me? I will not."

Vi turns her body now, expression bored. She isn't here to cater to prissy pilties. She's here to get a job done. So with a few steps forward for extra effect, she replies sharply.

"You know what your problem is?"

Caitlyn only looks more annoyed, rolling her eyes in an exaggerated manner, lip curling when she speaks. Her tone is mocking, the reason being she simply couldn’t care that much about what Vi thought about her.

“Please. Tell me.”

“You expect everyone to give you what you want. If you really want people to talk to you, you have to let them think you have what they want.”

Vi was circling the blue-haired girl now, every step accentuating her firm words. Caitlyn was a little surprised at Vi’s vehemence when she spoke, losing her vigor to argue, feeling some hesitance creep in.

“And.. What do I have?”

Vi didn’t answer, still circling Caitlyn like she was prey. Maybe she was, a pomeranian compared to a greyhound. Vi’s eyes flicked up and down, taking in the girl in front of her. She’s so clearly from Piltover it’s unbelievable. Clear skin, neat clothes, and an easy win in the gene lottery. Vi leaned forward with a small jolt, aiming to catch Caitlyn off guard.

“You’re hot, Cupcake.”

She succeeds. Caitlyn stumbled back a bit, her heart leaping out of her chest from adrenaline and… something else not so distinct. But she didn’t like the idea of lingering on that. Vi took advantage of this, slamming her hand against the wall beside the taller girls head. While the topsider still struggled to compose herself, Vi pressed her other hand to the wall as well, effectively trapping Caitlyn.

Just a breath away from Caitlyn’s lips, Vi spoke with a confident lilt. “So what’ll it be, man or woman?”

Their eyes never left each other’s, Vi’s commanding attention, not allowing Caitlyn’s to wander as she stuttered, “Um..”

Caitlyn’s heart wasn’t just jumping from adrenaline anymore. Having a girl like Vi so close, actively flirting, it felt like her brain just wouldn’t start up again. All she could do was stare dumbly at the smirking red-head, hoping her thoughts would catch up.

“Why..?”

Caitlyn finally, finally managed. This only amused Vi more, her simper growing wider. Yet for some reason she hadn’t pulled away. It seemed Caitlyn’s eyes also had a pull, like a siren’s, coaxing you to drown in the deep ocean blue. What confused Vi was that she was actually listening to it.

This was a Piltie, for gods sake. An innocent, wide-eyed, uncorrupted topsider. Amusing, how two polar opposites were so inexplicably drawn to each other. Maybe it was a silly trick by fate, pushing them together when it was so obviously never going to work out. Like oil and water. They would never mix.

Yet in this moment, it didn’t seem to matter. Who gave a fuck about fate anyway? In this moment, all the two wanted was to see if there could be a happy ending. After all if you put another element in play, both oil and water could mix. That element being an impossible attraction.

Both Vi and Caitlyn had tasted a different world today. It was addicting, the feeling of reality warping into something new. So they played into it, the allure of their eyes something laughable to the magnetism of their lips.

Neither one knew who closed the gap between them. It just happened, both accepting what they really wanted, both giving into their desires. The kiss started slow, hesitant. Was this really what they craved? The answer became obvious from the way Caitlyn’s hand wandered to the back of Vi’s neck, sliding up to tangle in her hair and subtly push her forward.

It was reciprocated, definite when the red-head stepped impossibly closer, knee slotting in between Caitlyn’s thighs, pressing up. The topsider let out a shallow gasp, tugging shamelessly on Vi’s hair. When they broke away, it was only to pull air into their empty lungs.

“So, women?”

Vi cut in with a breathless voice, moving away. She’d be lying if she said the contact wasn’t missed, but this was a one time thing. The atmosphere, the setting, the events leading up to it… all just a coincidence. And now the moment was over.

Caitlyn stayed against the wall, pupils wide, yet again struggling with her composure. All she did was nod, as if the answer wasn’t obvious by now. Vi brushed her racing thoughts aside, preparing for her imminent conversation with Babette.

“Remember what I said, Cupcake. Make them think you work here.”
