Cake, Cocktails and Balloons
Phyllis entered the shop and quickly found Trixie and Patsy staring at boxes of crackers trying to decide which would work best for the birthday party snacks.
“I just placed the cake and cupcake orders at the bakery. Purple with yellow flowers and it will be ready for pick-up Saturday morning.”
“Phyllis! I said yellow with purple flowers!” Trixie blurted as she turned with an expression full of exasperation.
The older nurse laughed. “I’m only joking, how could I have gone amiss when I received the instructions no less than five times this morning. Two dozen cupcakes for the dinner, and a purple cake with yellow flowers for the surprise party,” she quipped, winking at Patsy who had to look back to the cracker boxes to stop from laughing.
“Honestly Phyllis,” Trixie mumbled grumpily with her hands on her hips. “You’re going to give me worry lines around my eyes.” The blonde pinched the bridge of her nose then switched to massaging her temples.
“I believe you’re doing that all on your own lass,” Phyllis said with a smirk as she reached for a box and handed it to the redhead. “These are the best they have. Delicious. Three boxes should suffice.”
Patsy sighed with relief at not having to make the decision. “Brilliant. That’s done. Already selected the cheeses. Now we just need the cranberry juice and limes for the cocktails.”
“Did you pick up the balloons?” Trixie asked as they all headed to the juices.
“Damn…” Patsy muttered.
“Not to worry, I’ll find them lass. Green and blue is it?” Phyllis said with a cheeky grin.
“Yellow and Purple will do just fine Phyllis,” Trixie hissed, crossing her arms and rolling her eyes.
“Oh right, my mistake,” Phyllis replied happily as she turned and left, noting how the redhead covered her mouth to stifle another laugh.
“I swear Patsy… that woman gets more ornery by the day,” Trixie said as she set off down the aisle.
