Poor Hunter
Hunter felt strange as his hockey skates skidded across the lake, he had never done this before. This was a private outdoor lake really close to the Noceda place. When Hunter got a hang of skating it was….kind of fun…he could do this all day!
Luz skated around like she had been doing it for years, which she probably had. Gus was having trouble moving in the right direction so Hunter skated over and held his shoulder, careful not to fall, after all Hunter only just got a hang of it.
Amity took a hold of Luz’s hand as Luz giggled when she stumbled. Willow just stood there confused which made Hunter laugh to himself, she probably needed help. “You good Gus?” When Gus nodded Hunter wobbled over to Willow. She took his hand with gasp when she tried to skate towards him, he fell on top of her.
Hunter blushed as he tried to stand, knees wobbly from past injuries. Willow grabbed his hand as he helped her up as Camilla skated around them. “If you need help let me know, okay?” The teens nodded. A scream came from the edge of the lake.
It was Luz, she stood near the swampy part of the lake, cracks underneath her feet. Amity stood a few feet next to her. Hunter instantly attempted to skate at full speed, thinking he could help. Hunter also didn’t exactly know how ice worked, ice apparently cracked more under his weight because he was older and heavier than Luz. He was almost there, almost there to save his sibling before the ice cracked and Hunter fell underneath the water.
A faint voice called to him but Hunter couldn’t tell who it was. The water was colder than Hunter expected, and unexpectedly deep for a swamp area. A figure roughly shaped like Willow tried to stick in her hand and grabbed his shoulders but she wasn’t strong enough, she continued to pull until her hand slipped.
Shadows of the others skated across the big lake, it must’ve been 30 feet wide and the swampy area was about 6ft deep with thin ice. More hands grabbed him. Since Hunter was a grimwalker he got cold a lot faster then normal people did, so it didn’t take long for the first stage of hypothermia to begin shortly after he exited the water.
Hunter’s lips were a deep blue and he was shivering. He tried to get up but stumbled. “Hunter are you okay?” Camilla asked with concern. “M’fin” Hunter slurred. He fell to the ground overtook with shivering, flashbacks of the mountain test from the Emperors Coven flashed through his mind as he lay there soaking wet, confused, and UNBELIEVABLY cold.
Hunter’s chest stung as Camilla kneeled over him summoning blankets out of nowhere and wrapped him in them, his skin and his insides (especially his chest) was like literal ice. “M can still function….” He held the blankets close, they weren’t helping. Hunter sat there confused, he was too cold to notice the frozen water droplets on his face.
“No, Hunter you’re really cold.” Willow reached to give him a hug but reacted to his cold skin by quickly stepping back. Hunter didn’t seem to notice. He just shivered, teeth chattering, how did he get so cold? He was wearing a jacket, gloves, snow-pants, and a hat!
Hunter tried to hold the blankets closer, but he dropped them and he had to hold his hands to the ground for support.
“We have to get him home, Mami.” Luz said.
“Let’s get you home, shall we?” Camilla responded. Hunter was surprised when he felt a warm hand on his cheek. He leaned into the hand trying to warm his face. It quickly left and Hunter whimpered in pain.
Something poky and frozen was beginning to develop in his chest.
