Into Zootopia

Stepping into a new world was always interesting for Dawn. This one, was especially interesting because all around her were animals. These animals walked upright, wore clothes and lived in what looked to be a completely normal city without a single human in sight.

Dawn had to step into the shadows of an alleyway to hide for a moment while she thought of a way to hide in plain sight. Do not get her wrong, Dawn knew there was something she needed to learn while she was in this new world, but she had always been able to look normal or be able to blend in. So, with a wish aimed at her magic, Dawn asked for an animal form to transform into. It took some serious concentration, but it seemed oddly easy to change from one form into another when she had already mastered skills such as neither space (which was neither here nor there) or evaporation from the Cheshire Cat. Dawn was still Dawn no matter that she looked like a person or like an animal.

There seemed to be no in between when Dawn finally changed from human to animal. One moment, she was human and the next she was an exceedingly small baby mink. She was honestly more fluff ball than a slender mink, but Dawn assumed it must be because of her age than what she had turned into which gave her the extra fur covering her entire body. Luckily, magic had also changed her clothes, so they fit her new form. She was fairly happy with her new form, and decided to finally begin exploring the new world she had found herself in.

The city was massive, with four completely different biomes not including the central city area. Dawn had decided firstly, to explore Sahara Square. It reminded her deeply of Agrabah though with animals and more technology than the city she had explored with Aladdin in. Everyone that belonged in the sandy, hot desert lived in this biome and Dawn felt at ease in this section of the city mostly for the familiarity of it.

Dawn, with her small size, was even able to sneak into the massive glass and metal yucca tree for a tour. She held no qualms of stealing for food during her exploration of the area. She had so much fun watching the camel races, though she it was hilarious to see them lope on two legs when four would be so much faster.

She had so much fun just exploring that she had no worries about wanting to play with the other kids. She did not want to get caught by some well-meaning adult. However, her thefts for food was requiring to leave when she spied an uptick in animal cops in the area after some of the food vendors had reported the thefts.

Next was Savannah Central. It was a location with massive grasslands and a more temperate climate. The main bulk of the main city area also seemed to reside in the Savannah biome. Dawn continued to explore. She had fun seeing everyone going about their day o day lives, from gerbil businessmen to giraffes skateboarding on the sidewalk. Dawn was small as a mink cub, not much bigger than the gerbils and so she had to be more careful about where she walked lest she be stepped on by accident.

It was a normal day and Dawn was just having some normal fun. There was this playground absolutely run amuck with little children, both predator and prey. Little lambs where chasing each other on the ground while a pair of tiger cubs climbed all over the jungle gym. Dawn was just playing and having fun, there was a sand pit that was especially fun to crunch between her little paws before jumping into the pond to swim around.

Dawn let out a scream of shock when she felt a sharp poke in the back of her neck. Then, there was nothing but a bright red haze that came over her.

Dawn didn’t realize it, but she had jumped in the way of the adult tiger mom watching over her two cubs just in time for a pellet filled with night howler serum to hit her. Dawn had gone feral.

Without reason, Dawn attacked everything in sight. She was caught by the scruff of her neck by the terrified mother tiger. Dawn could do nothing but shake uncontrollably and claw at the tigress holding her away from everything, including her cubs.

The police arrived not long after with a small crate to place Dawn into since she was feral, attacking anything that moved.

More and more cases had popped up after Mayor Leodore Lionheart had been arrested. Dawn was simply the next carnivore animal to go feral in a long line of those infected.

Dawn was placed into her own quarantine room and it soon became obvious that no one knew who she was. Her photo was put on the 9 o’clock news asking for her parents to come forth, but no one came to visit. Mrs. Otterton came and visited her husband every single day, and because Dawn’s room had been situated next to her husband’s, Mrs. Otterton also visited Dawn. Mrs. Otterton was heartbroken over a tiny little mink going feral just like her husband had. The little mink looked remarkably similar to a baby otter and so Mrs. Otterton felt her heart strings twinge at the sight of the feral child.

It was only after another week of investigation, in which Officer Judy Hopps foiled the plot, that the cure for the night howler serum was administered to all those affected.

In the hospital, Dawn was given the antidote and recovered with the help of the hospital staff as well as visits by Mrs. Otterton.

The police had stopped by on one occasion to speak with Dawn about her living situation, and Dawn knew it was time to leave. She could not stay any longer or risk being discovered as a magical child who did not even belong in this world originally. No one would be able to come up with the actual truth, nor would anyone believe the truth should she tell them. However, she did not want to go into foster care or an orphanage when she had the rest of the multiverse to explore.

So, Dawn smiled brightly at Mrs. Otterton when she came to visit. Dawn was grateful for the kindness Mrs. Otterton had shown her and felt she owed a good bye to the kindly old otter that visited Dawn every day without fail alongside her husband.

Then, at the dead of night, Dawn slipped out of the hospital room and into the portal to a new world.
