Chapter 2

The snow in the mountains was melting and Peter had been dead for several weeks before we came to understand the gravity of our situation.

James couldn’t believe that one simple decision to leave his small hometown could change his life so profoundly. In a way this was always what he wished for. His life which was so dull and shallow before, now seemed much more meaning full. But it took him quite some time to realize that his actions have consequences. But how could he care? Maybe he would be looking over his shoulder till the end of his life now. Always wondering, if somehow, they made a mistake. Somebody saw them, up on the mountain, watching as Peter stumbled over the edge. Never to live another day again. But he could not bring himself to care. Even now nearly 10 years later it all seemed inevitable. One way somebody would have gone down for the crime the others committed. And James was relieved that it was Peter. But still. Some days he wonders if he ever truly left the mountain. Sometimes he dreams. And when he wakes up, he could swear he still feels the cold breeze that blew in his face. And could still hear Peter say ` what are you guys doing up here? ´ while they just watched him. And when he finally wakes up from his dream, he is shivering.

James Potter is twenty eight years old by the time he feels like he is fully able to reflect on what happened.

James Potter is nineteen when he decides to change to whole outcome of his life.

Since birth it was always clear that he would stay in his hometown, study something that would guarantee him a good career and care for his parents. He would stay in the same house he grew up in and once he made a girl his wife she would move in too. That’s the ordinary life for people in Godrics Hallow. But James always strived for more. There was restlessness in him, a will to explore and learn that could not be stilled. Over the years there was number of times teachers called his parents to tell him he was a distraction in class and that they should talk to him about it.

, But Mom, how am I supposed to sit still when the sun is shining outside´

, But Dad, the book I was reading was so much more interesting then Mrs. Dursleys math class.’

His excuses would go on and on. But in reality he just could not get behind the meaning of it all. Why should he sit here and listen to things he will never use again, when his entire life is planned out for him anyway. Being the only child of his parents, there was nobody else he could share his fate with or much better who could take over his responsibilities. And besides there wasn’t anywhere he could go. His parents weren’t poor but community college was all they were able to effort. So he decided to study medicine. Becoming a doctor is something his parents would be proud of. The thing is he had absolutely no passion for it. He really tried. Sometimes when something really interests him, he can become obsessive. So he studied and studied in hopes that something would catch his attention. But it never did. Six months into his course he changed to literature.

Life appeared to be a never ending cycle. Until one fight with his father. Fleamont Potter wasn’t quick to anger, more the opposite. But James was got in pushing and sometimes he even managed to push Fleamont Potter over the edge. Their fight once again about James choosing to study literature ended with James angrily stomping up to his room and slamming his door. He recognized that he was acting incredibly childish but he couldn’t help himself. He was just so unsatisfied with his life. While browsing on his computer he stumbled upon an college application.

Hogwarts College of Hampden, Massachusetts.

He didn’t know what exactly caught his attention but he couldn’t pull his eyes away. He knew realistically that his parents would never be able to effort him to study there. But there was always the possibility of receiving a scholarship.

Without knowing that the entire course of his life was about to change he wrote an application.

And got accepted.
