Ling stood in the middle of the living room. Her heart beating faster than normal.
She looked around and went through each items again.
The camera on the shelf, checked.
A dozen Labubus and two puppy soft toys on the sofa, checked.
Two glasses of iced matcha on the coffee table along with some finger food, checked.
Hydrangeas, Lilies of the Valley and Roses laid on the sofa and sprinkled around the living room floor, checked.
Soft music in the background, checked.
Satisfied, Ling went into the bedroom, checked her hair and clothes again. Hair was in place. White blouse and navy blue pleated shorts looked fine. Face was clean. Mole in place.
The key item in the pocket, checked.
She walked back to the living room, sat down on the sofa, and took a couple of very deep breaths.
“You got this…” She was calming her nerves.
Then, the door unlocked.
“P’Ling~~~” Orm entered and paused when she saw the unusual setting. She looked at Ling and asked, “P’Ling?”
Ling approached her, took her bag, placed it on the entryway table and gently led her to the centre of the living room. Ling held her hands, looked into her eyes,
“N’Orm.”Ling reached to her pocket, but before she could, Orm suddenly shouted “P’Ling!!!”
Orm leapt and tackled her! Ling fell onto the sofa, Orm landing on top of her. Before Ling could react, Orm got up and ran.
She ran off!!
Ling’s mind went blank.
She didn’t hear Orm muttering to herself while running, “Oh, no you don’t…”
Orm didn’t run away from the condo, she ran into the bedroom, and within a couple of seconds, ran back out, jumped onto Ling, and held out an opened box with a ring. In one breath, she said, “Lingling Sirilak Kwong, marry me. You’re whom I wake up for every morning. You’re my anchor in the sea, my beacon in the dark, my oasis in the desert, my calm in the storm, my safe space. There is no one in the world I would want to spend the rest of my life with except you. I will give you everything I have and love you for as long as I breathe.” Orm finally took a breath and said, “Marry me.”
In the span of seconds, Ling had her marriage proposal disrupted, and her girlfriend sprawled on top of her with a ring in her hand.
The scene was amusing, to say the least. Ling and Orm looked at each other for a second, and bursted into laughter. Neither had expected to propose or be proposed like this. They sat up and laughed even more, with tears from the laughter. When the laughter slowed, they looked at each other, with so much love and affection unsaid. They leaned in and shared a slow and soft kiss.
“Yes.”
