[Chapter 20: Saw A Dragon (3)

After coming out of the prison, Cale put the dragon down in front of the two kittens.

“That looks like it hurts.”

“So sad.”]

On and Hong instinctively pressed closer to their brother, wrapping themselves around him for comfort. Their presence was warm and reassuring, offering him a sense of security. They nestled against him, feeling the bond of their shared journey and the unspoken promise that no matter what, they would always be there for each other.

[On and Hong circled around the still silent dragon. The dragon started to show its teeth and growl at them. This was probably the first time in its life it ever saw anything other than humans.]

“It’s truly heartbreaking,” Tboah Mary murmured, her usually monotonous voice carrying a rare undertone of sorrow. The weight of the dragon’s suffering was clear to all, and Mary’s quiet acknowledgment struck a chord.

On and Hong nudged their youngest sibling gently, their tails swaying as they pressed against him in silent comfort. Raon blinked, his face tinged with embarrassment as he remembered how he had distanced himself from them in the past.

“We don’t blame you, Raon,” On said softly, her paw resting lightly on his. “You were just a child, thrown into something terrifying. None of it was your fault.”

Hong chimed in with a playful grin. “And now you’re stuck with us for good, so you’d better get used to all the head rubs.”

Raon’s lips quirked upward, his heart warmed by their support. For once, the lingering shadows of his past didn’t feel so heavy.

[Cale verified the time on his watch. It looked like they had just enough time to escape.

“It looks like it hurts.”

On approached Cale and tapped his leg. She seemed to be thinking about the potion Cale brought in his magic box. She couldn’t ask him for it, so she could only act this way.

“Hold on.”]

“Why did you delay healing him when you had the potion ready?” Tboah Litana asked, curiosity evident in her tone.

Tcf Cale replied calmly, “The potion wouldn’t have worked well with the mana restriction chain still on him. We didn’t have time to remove it and had to leave the area before the Mana Disturbance Tool’s time ran out.”

Litana nodded in understanding. “I see. Thank you for explaining.”

Raon’s eyes softened as he listened to his human speak so calmly about the situation. His chest swelled with warmth as he reflected on everything his human had done for him.

Cale Henituse might seem indifferent or blunt at times, but to Raon, he was the most thoughtful and protective person he had ever known. He hadn’t just rescued Raon from that place of nightmares he had given him a family, a home, and warmth.

Raon’s earliest memories were of cold stone and darkness. That day, Tcf Cale had carried him away from it all, showing him the vast, starry sky for the first time. And later, during the nights when the memories returned to haunt him, Tcf Cale never once got angry when Raon climbed into his bed seeking comfort.

Even now, Raon wanted nothing more than to protect the man who had given him a new life. Saving the world was important, but saving his human was everything.

[Cale had brought that potion to use it. However, he needed to wait until the mana restriction chains were off. The potion would only work properly if the mana, which was practically as important as a dragon’s heart, was no longer restricted.

Cale started to head toward the opposite side of the prison, the location the torturer seemed to be guarding. It wasn’t very loud, but he could hear Choi Han fighting in the distance. Cale presumed that Choi Han’s battle would end soon as well.

“Let’s see.”

Cale started to pat the cave wall with his hands. He kicked the torturer with his foot to get him out of the way, and continued to pat every aspect of the wall. The dragon growled after seeing the torturer, but stayed still and continued to focus on Cale.]

“You’re really weak, aren’t you?” Kim Rok Soo teased, trying to break the heavy tension.

Tcf Cale rolled his eyes. “What nonsense are you spouting now?”

Kim Rok Soo smirked. “The guy would’ve exploded if hit with enough force, but your kick didn’t even phase him. Weak.”

Cale crossed his arms, his lips twitching in irritation. “I was holding back. You know, so I wouldn’t kill him. Not my fault I’m efficient.”

Kim Rok Soo snorted. “Efficient, huh? You should’ve done more than kick him. That bastard deserved to be flattened for what he did to Raon.”

“Exactly!” Tboah Cale agreed, his voice tinged with mock concern. “But honestly, with your delicate frame, I guess it’s no surprise you couldn’t manage much else.”

Tcf Cale narrowed his eyes, feeling the teasing wasn’t about to stop anytime soon.

“And let’s not forget,” Tboah Cale continued with a wicked grin, “how you ended up being carried out of your room like some damsel in distress. Truly an image to remember.”

“I was not carried like a damsel!” Cale snapped, his face turning red.

At that moment, Tcf Alberu interjected, his voice smooth and laced with amusement. “Oh, really? Because I distinctly remember hearing Choi Han was the one who carried you out.” He smirked, leaning casually against his chair, enjoying the show.

“Alberu!” Tcf Cale turned toward him, betrayal evident in his expression.

“What?” Tcf Alberu feigned innocence, his golden eyes sparkling mischievously. “I’m just stating the facts.”

Tcf Cale’s mouth opened and closed a few times before he groaned, running a hand through his hair. “You’re supposed to be on my side.”

Tcf Alberu chuckled and leaned in closer, his tone softer but no less teasing. “I am on your side, love. But I also won’t stop them when they’re this accurate.”

Tcf Cale glared, his cheeks burning even brighter. “I swear, you’re all impossible.”

Tcf Alberu pressed a quick kiss to Cale’s temple before leaning back. “And yet, you love us anyway.”

The laughter in the room only grew louder, and Cale sank deeper into his seat, determined to ignore them all for now.

[‘Venion’s last line of defense should be around here somewhere.’

Like all of the members of Marquis Stan’s family, Venion was extremely worried about someone intruding while he was inside. He had created a secret tunnel to use as an escape route if something like that ever happened. If the torturer knew about it, he probably would have used it to escape earlier, but, sadly, even the torturer did not know about this escape route.]

“It’s ironic, isn’t it?” Tboah Bud said with a sly grin. “That Venion’s so-called foolproof escape route ended up being his downfall. Poetic justice at its finest.”

“Meticulous to a fault,” Tcf Glenn remarked, arms crossed as he leaned against the wall. “The bastard was thorough when it came to protecting himself, but all his planning went up in smoke. He never accounted for a variable like Cale Henituse.”

Tcf Bud chuckled, shaking his head. “You know, all this has me thinking about the author of The <Birth of a Hero>. How does someone manage to write with such chilling accuracy about all these people and events? It’s not just Choi Han’s perspective they captured; it’s everything. Raon-nim’s life, the Henituse family’s secrets, and even Venion’s twisted schemes it’s like they were watching from the shadows.”

Tboah Glenn raised a brow, his expression skeptical. “Stalker vibes aside, it’s strange. Too many details line up perfectly. This isn’t something you piece together from rumors or speculation.”

“Exactly,” Tcf Bud agreed, his curiosity evident. “The precision, the insight—none of it feels like creative liberty. Even if some parts were exaggerated, there’s too much truth woven in for it to be coincidental. It’s as if the author had a direct line to every major player’s inner thoughts and experiences.”

“And if that’s the case,” Tcf Glenn said, his tone darkening, “then what was their purpose? Writing this whole mess into a story doesn’t exactly scream innocent intentions.”

Tboah Bud smirked but couldn’t hide the unease in his eyes. “Well, whatever their reason, one thing’s clear: they’ve managed to turn reality into a drama none of us can look away from.”

The two exchanged a glance, their minds racing with theories about the enigmatic author who seemed to know far too much.

[‘The novel said there was a flat area on this bumpy wall-, ah here it is.’

There was a flat area about the size of a person’s hand on this bumpy cave wall. Although Venion looked like he had OCD and would never do anything like training, everyone in the Marquis’s family had learned martial arts.]

Tcf Taylor clenched his fists, bitterness flashing in his eyes as he thought, Venion twisted everything, and even the martial arts we learned for self-defense, into tools for his cruelty.

The room fell silent as everyone turned their gazes toward Taylor, sensing the storm of emotions simmering beneath his calm demeanor.

“It’s true,” Tcf Taylor said after a moment. “Every child in the Stan family was taught at least the basics of self-defense. Not because they wanted us to grow stronger, but because it was necessary. You never knew when one of your siblings might decide to take you out—directly or by hiring someone to do it.”

“That’s messed up,” Tboah Bud said bluntly, shaking his head in disbelief.

“I can’t argue with that,” Tcf Taylor replied with a bitter smile. “It wasn’t a family; it was a battlefield.”

“Yet you survived it,” Tcf Cale interjected firmly. “You endured that chaos and didn’t let it turn you into someone like him.”

Tcf Taylor’s smile softened as he met Cale’s gaze. “I had to. There’s no way I’d let someone like Venion define me or the Stan family’s future.”

The determination in Taylor’s voice filled the room, casting a shadow over the darkness of his past.

[‘If you use a strong enough force on that location, the wall will open.’

It was not a magic device. Instead, the force of the impact made the device move. Cale turned his head to look toward the person who entered and asked.

“All done?”

“Yes.”

Choi Han lightly swung his sword in the air to get rid of the blood on it and then approached Cale. His gaze soon turned toward the dragon, and started to frown. It was a natural reaction to seeing such a small creature being covered in blood. The glare in Choi Han’s eyes as he stared at the torturer was vicious.]

“Good thing you held back,” Tboah Choi Han said with a serious tone, glancing at Cale. “I would’ve gone after him myself if I were in your shoes.”

Tcf Choi Han exhaled sharply, nodding as he spoke. “I had to stay focused, or we’d all have been caught up in something worse.”

Tboah Bud raised an eyebrow. “Yeah, lucky for them, Choi Han turned out to be such a well-behaved puppy. Could’ve been a disaster otherwise.”

Choi Han shot him a glare. “I’m not a puppy. I’d rather be a guard dog, thank you very much.”

Tcf Roslyn smirked and replied teasingly, “You’ve got that right. I can’t imagine what would’ve happened if you'd gone full wolf on him.”

The group shared a brief laugh, the mood lightened, before they refocused on their next steps.

[“Choi Han.”

That was why Cale had called out to Choi Han. Choi Han was still glaring at the torturer as he reported.

“As you ordered, I left the escaping workers alone. I also made sure that all of the strong individuals would not be able to fight.”

“Good job.”]

Tboah Alberu couldn't help but marvel at the dynamic between Cale Henituse and Choi Han. Unlike his own experience with Tboah Choi Han—who worked with him out of necessity and for the kingdom’s stability Tcf Cale had managed to forge a partnership of genuine trust and camaraderie with his Choi Han.

Tboah Alberu sighed internally. His relationship with Tboah Cale wasn’t as deeply rooted in trust and mutual respect. It was professional, transactional at best, like many of his connections in the Tboah kingdom. However, as he glanced between the Tcf versions of himself and Cale, he couldn’t help but feel a pang of envy.

Tcf Alberu, with that calm confidence and warmth, was seated close to Cale, their subtle yet undeniable connection apparent in every glance and shared smile. Their relationship was one of equals, built on trust, love, and mutual support.

Tboah Cale, however, had little patience for  sentimentality. He was sharp and calculating, much like Tboah Alberu himself. Though they worked well as allies, their bond lacked the easy affection their otherworld counterparts shared.

[Cale praised Choi Han before pointing to the flat area on the wall.

“Punch this spot.”

“As strong as I can?”

‘Are you planning on destroying the cave?’

“No. Control your strength. Just pretend you are creating a 10cm dent in this wall.”]

"Do you think he really could've destroyed the whole cave with a single punch?" Pen asked skeptically.

Tcf Choi Han hummed, tapping his chin. "Maybe not the entire cave, but I could definitely cause a collapse if I hit the right spot."

Tcf Pen gulped. That was more than enough of an answer. He made a silent vow to never get on Cale’s people's bad side.

Meanwhile, Tboah Choi Han furrowed his brows. Could he really do that? The thought lingered in his mind, and for a brief moment, he was tempted to find out.

Tboah Cale and Kim Rok Soo look at them wondering how they survived getting beating by him.

[“Mm. So, very lightly.”

“Sure.”

Very lightly? Cale quickly stepped away from Choi Han after hearing Choi Han calls something that was impossible for Cale to do as only using a tiny bit of his strength.]

Tcf Rosalyn chuckled, shaking her head. “It’s honestly impressive how Young Master Cale keeps you from accidentally leveling buildings, Choi Han.”

Tcf Choi Han sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “I’ve gotten a lot better at controlling my strength,” he insisted, though the slight embarrassment on his face was clear.

He had spent years learning restraint, but sometimes, old habits were hard to break. The Forest of Darkness had been a place where holding back meant death. Adapting to a world where he had to measure his strength had been far from easy.

“Right… ‘barely used any strength’ and still left a dent,” Tboah Cale muttered under his breath.

Tboah Cale and Kim Rok Soo exchanged looks, both thinking the same thing ‘It’s a miracle we survived his punches.’

[Choi Han understood that to be Cale telling him to hurry, and immediately punched the wall with his fist.]

"I doubt he was giving you permission. More like trying to stay out of range in case you decided to hit him," Tboah Bud said with a chuckle.

Tcf Choi Han paused before letting out a small sigh. "...Yeah, that does sound more likely."

[Boom!

“Wow.”

“Oh.”

Cale picked the dragon back up while the kitten siblings were admiring what happened.

Screeeeeeeech-

A chilling screeching noise came out of the wall, and an area the size of an adult male appeared to one side of the cave wall. Choi Han quickly picked up the torch.

“Let’s go.”

At Cale’s command, the kittens got on Choi Han’s back, as Choi Han stepped into the tunnel first. Cale followed behind him. The dragon remained quiet in Cale’s arms, with only the sound of its breathing coming out of it. However, the eyes that were staring at Cale were still extremely vicious.]

"I didn’t realize you were different from the others," Raon mumbled, feeling a bit embarrassed.

Tcf Cale chuckled, patting Raon’s head. "You had every reason to be cautious. That was the smart thing to do."

[Rather than any gratitude for saving him, it seemed to be filled with thoughts of terror about being tortured by someone else, as well as anger and resentment toward humans.]

"After everything Dragon-nim went through, it makes sense that he'd be cautious," Tcf Tasha observed quietly. "But I really hope he finds a way to trust again." ‘You don’t have to worry aunty will be here for you’.

There was a soft murmur of agreement from the others, the weight of their words lingering in the air. Their eyes wandered to the children, who were contentedly enjoying their treats, smiling and laughing without a care.

The difference between their past and present was clear a journey from pain to peace. And in that moment, it was the happiness they had now that mattered most.

[“Stop staring at me like that.”

Cale casually talked to the dragon in his arms.]

“It’s perfectly fine to feel that way about Cale, “Tcf Sheritt said, her voice soft and reassuring as she hugged her son tightly. He looked up at her with wide eyes, clearly embarrassed, but her gentle smile melted away his discomfort. “There’s no need to feel awkward. He’s… well, he’s Cale.”

Sheritt’s thoughts drifted back to a time when she had once believed she would never trust another human again. The betrayal by the White Star, who had torn apart the pact between the Dragon Slayer family and her, had shattered her faith. Dragons were often thought to be the most selfish of all creatures, but in Sheritt’s eyes, humans were the truly terrifying ones. They were unpredictable. Their actions, especially when driven by their emotions or desires, could never be anticipated. It made them a race she couldn’t afford to trust.

Yet, in a twist she never expected, it was a human Cale Henituse who had changed her perspective. Cale, a human, the very race she had once hated for their unpredictable nature, had given her son a second chance at life. He had saved him. The irony was not lost on her; it was Cale who had shown her the compassion and strength that no other being had been able to offer. Cale had become an unlikely source of salvation, reminding her of the old bonds she had once shared with Nellan Barrow, a human who had also been a friend.

Tcf Eruhaben’s, ever the casual observer, leaned back with a wry grin on his face. “What Sheritt-nim says is absolutely right,” he added, his tone light but filled with a knowing depth. “That unlucky fool knows exactly what he’s doing. And you don’t have to thank him, because he won’t care if you do. It’s not in his nature.”

Cale, the Cale Henituse that Eruhaben’s knew, was someone who didn’t waste time on the judgments of others. Whether it was indifference or just years of being accustomed to being misunderstood, Eruhaben’s had never seen Cale let the opinions of others affect him for long. He was a man who followed his own path, regardless of whether the world approved or not.

But there was more to it. Eruhaben’s knew, perhaps better than anyone, that Cale’s decisions were often driven by something deeper—something far more important. It wasn’t just about being indifferent to gratitude or praise; it was about a sense of responsibility. A deep-rooted understanding that there were beings in the world to like Raon who had been born into a life of suffering, abuse, and neglect.

Cale wasn’t the type to admit it, but his actions spoke volumes. The reason he went to such lengths to help others, even when it wasn’t in his best interest, was because he felt responsible. Responsible for those who had been abandoned or wronged, like Raon, who had been abused for as long as he could remember.

Tcf Eruhaben’s couldn’t help but feel a little exasperated at times. Cale was the type of person who cared too much—so much that he often took on more than anyone should. His constant drive to help others, even at his own expense, sometimes made Eruhaben’s wonder if he could just pull him back, if only for a moment, and shield him from the weight of the world. But he knew Cale would never allow that. It was in his nature to care too much, even when he wished he didn’t.

As Tcf Sheritt continued to hold her son, offering him comfort and understanding, she couldn’t help but think of all the unexpected bonds that had formed since meeting Cale. She had never imagined that a human, a race she once viewed with such distrust, would come to mean so much to her and her son. Cale had brought warmth into their lives in ways that words couldn’t fully express, and for that, she would be eternally grateful—even if she never fully understood the complexities of the man who had done so much for them.

Sheritt’s thoughts returned to the present, her gaze softening as she looked at her son. Despite the hardships they had faced, despite the bitterness she had once felt toward humanity, she knew one thing for certain now: there were humans who could change the world for the better. Cale Henituse was proof of that. And as she hugged her son a little tighter, she whispered a quiet hope that perhaps, someday, more humans would show the same kindness and compassion that had made all the difference in their lives.

[‘Ah, I’m a bit out of breath.’

Cale was out of breath as he tried to keep up with Choi Han, who seemed to have no issues running.

‘Should I have made Choi Han carry the dragon?’

The 1 meter long dragon was pretty heavy.]

"Pfft. You really think you’re fooling anyone, dongsaeng?" Kim Rok Soo's voice rang out, teasing and full of mischief.

Tcf Cale didn’t even acknowledge the comment. He refused to give Kim the satisfaction of a reaction. Admitting that Raon was too heavy? That was a mistake he definitely wasn’t going to make. The last thing he needed was a sulking dragon on his hands.

“Hey!!! I’m NOT fat, human! You’re just weak!” Raon’s indignant shout filled the room, his tiny body puffing up with frustration as his wings flapped aggressively, like they were trying to express his outrage.

The sight of the little dragon, his face scrunched in a pout, scolding Tcf Cale with all the seriousness of a creature twice his size, had everyone around them chuckling. It was hard to take the angry little dragon seriously when he looked so adorable. But everyone knew better than to point that out to Raon he would never let it go.

‘Damn it, I should’ve known this would happen.’

Tcf Cale let out a mental sigh, preparing for the storm that was Raon’s temper. He knew he had to handle this carefully, or he’d end up with an even more grumpy dragon to deal with. He was already well aware of how possessive Raon was of his image and pride. He didn’t want to risk making things worse, especially not in front of everyone.

With exaggerated patience, Tcf Cale spoke up, his voice smooth and filled with exaggerated admiration. “Of course, Raon. How could I ever think such a thing? A dragon as great and majestic as you? Impossible. The truth is, my poor, weak arms simply couldn’t handle your magnificent presence. It’s all on me, really. I clearly need to train harder to match your immense power.”

Raon, ever the one to fall for flattery, immediately stopped his tirade. His eyes brightened, and he puffed out his chest proudly, looking as smug as a dragon could possibly look. “Well, of course you couldn’t handle it! I am a magnificent dragon after all! My power is unmatched!”

Tcf Cale shot a quick glance at the others, who were all trying to stifle their laughter. As much as they were used to this dynamic between Tcf Cale and Raon, it never failed to amuse them.

Tcf Cale’s lips twitched as he gave Raon a small bowl, his hand over his chest in mock solemnity. “My deepest apologies for doubting you, Raon. I shall train tirelessly to earn the privilege of carrying you, if you ever decide to bestow such an honor upon me again.”

Raon let out a satisfied little noise and nodded, clearly pleased by the compliments. His mood had shifted entirely, and the tension in the air dissolved.

“I guess I’ll let you off this time,” Raon said with a smug grin, as if he were granting Cale a tremendous favor. He flapped his wings again, this time in a more dignified manner, and settled back into Cale’s arms, his attitude now one of calm superiority.

Tcf Cale, holding the little dragon with a sigh of relief, shot a glance at Kim Rok Soo, who was still trying to stifle his laughter. “You’re never going to let me live this down, are you?” Cale muttered, fully aware that this would be a story that would live on in infamy.

“Wouldn’t dream of it, hyung,” Kim Rok Soo replied, grinning. “The mighty Cale Henituse, bested by a dragon."

Cale rolled his eyes, but deep down, he couldn’t help but smile. It wasn’t the first time Raon had thrown a tantrum, and it certainly wouldn’t be the last. But at least they had a little peace again, even if it was just for the moment.

[It would not be this hard if he was able to get his hands on the ancient power called the ‘Vitality of the Heart.’]

"Ah! That... that was Taylor’s," Tboah Cage  murmured, her mind racing. Tcf Cale had taken the ancient power, but Tcf Taylor was still alive and standing there. It didn’t seem to matter that Tcf Cale had claimed it Tcf Taylor had searched for it so desperately, and yet it had slipped through his fingers.

Tboah Cage didn’t know whether to feel angry or hurt, or maybe both. The ancient power had been their last hope, but it never helped Taylor. Still, it had been his, and now Cale had it.

Tcf Cale noticed the inner struggle on her face and spoke up calmly, "Yes, I took it, but I didn’t just leave him with nothing. I made sure to give him a new hope." He turned back to the screen, as though dismissing the matter.

Tboah Cage  nodded, but her thoughts didn’t settle. She knew Cale was powerful, armed with knowledge from the novels, but it didn’t make her feel any better about how easily he had taken what they had fought so hard to get. Taylor had spent countless nights searching for a solution, while Cale had access to everything they didn’t.

Yet, despite all that, Taylor had managed to recover. He could walk again, had returned to his normal life, even risen to the rank of Marquis. The ancient power hadn’t been the answer, but somehow, Taylor had found another way.

Still, Tboah Cage couldn’t help but wonder had Cale given Taylor something more, some other piece of knowledge? Or had Taylor truly managed to heal on his own? The questions lingered, and she couldn’t shake the feeling that something wasn’t adding up.

 “Huuuu~.”

Cale took a deep breath, calming his rapidly beating heart. The Indestructible Shield around his heart was gathering strength every time his heart beat like that, just in case an emergency situation happened.]

Without anyone fully realizing it, there was a quiet, almost unspoken nervousness whenever Tcf Cale Henituse made his move. His actions, which always seemed so simple on the surface, carried with them a kind of tension that no one dared to voice.

His plans appeared flawless, but the truth was far messier. What Tcf Cale made look effortless was the result of countless things going right, and an even larger number of things that could have gone wrong. The consequences of failure were far more complicated than anyone would care to imagine. Without Choi Han’s incredible reflexes, the steady support of the two kittens from the Cat Tribe, and the calm presence of the little black dragon who managed to stay composed despite the chaos, even the smallest misstep could have led to disaster.

"Seeing things from Cale’s perspective doesn’t really help," Tboah Zed remarked with a rueful chuckle. "That guy somehow makes everything seem too easy."

Tboah Alberu, always keenly aware of the dangers, couldn’t help but silently agree with his father. It wasn’t just about the action itself it was about the fact that Cale made it seem like nothing could ever go wrong, and yet everyone knew how close they had come to disaster countless times.

"Ah, it's that ancient power the young master used, isn’t it?" Tcf Lock said, his voice tinged with both admiration and sadness as he remembered how valiantly Cale had acted in the heat of the moment. But the memory of Cale collapsing, coughing blood, reminded him of how high the cost had been for that victory.

-"Cale, is that really me you're talking about? Now I’m hungry again! Hurry up and eat more, Cale!" the little black dragon chimed in, as if its hunger was a bigger concern than any ancient power.

Despite all the risks and uncertainty, the shield surrounding Cale, built by his allies’ strength and their unyielding trust in him, continued to grow stronger. And as that shield solidified, so too did the quiet sense of calm that washed over those who stood by his side. With the bonds they shared, there was always a sense that, no matter how dangerous the situation, they would face it together.

[‘I have no plans to use it right now.’

However, Cale was not planning on using this shield just yet. After freeing this dragon and saying goodbye to Choi Han in the next city, he was planning on gaining the ancient power, ‘Vitality of the Heart,’ To strengthen this shield. Only then would he use the shield.

Now that he had the time to look around, Cale looked down toward the dragon. He then started to smile.

The rebellious gaze was gone, and the dragon was looking up at the night sky in admiration. This was the first time the dragon saw anything other than the cave walls in its four years of life. Cale understood what the dragon was feeling, and wanted to give it some more time, but he could not do that.]

The room had fallen into an uneasy silence.

At first, everyone had simply been reflecting on Cale Henituse’s actions his kindness, his willingness to protect. But now, an unsettling thought had settled in their minds.

How did Cale understand Raon’s emotions so well?

Most simply saw it as Cale being Cale. He had always been perceptive, always too self-sacrificing. But for those who knew him best, the implications of his words left an odd taste in their mouths.

Tcf Choi Han’s grip tightened around his sword. He already had his suspicions, but this only confirmed it.

Tcf Alberu watched as realization slowly dawned on the others. He had always known Cale carried burdens he refused to speak about, but seeing the way everyone was reacting now made it clear—he wasn’t the only one who had begun to question.

Tcf Sheritt was wiping away her tears, overwhelmed with emotion. It was as if she could feel Raon’s joy, that first taste of freedom after so much suffering.

Raon himself seemed oblivious to the weight of the conversation. The young dragon curled his tail around Cale’s arm before releasing it, a nostalgic smile on his face.

“That was a good day,” he murmured, his voice filled with warmth. “It was the first time I saw the night sky. It felt… safe.”

Then his gaze flickered toward Cale, confusion creeping into his expression.

“But why does My weak human understand how I felt?”

The question made the air feel heavier.

Tboah Mary, quiet as always, hesitated before looking toward Tboah Tasha. “Do you know?”

Tcf Tasha’s expression darkened. “No. But I’ve been wondering the same thing.”

Everyone here had their own pasts, their own struggles. Mary had spent years underground, never knowing the outside world. She understood Raon’s emotions because she had lived in darkness too.

But Cale?

He had been born into a normal family had a normal life. He had never been caged, never been trapped.

So why did he act as if he had?

Why did he speak as though he had known that same pain?

Tcf Choi Han inhaled sharply, pressing his lips into a thin line. He had known for a while now that Cale’s past wasn’t as simple as it seemed.

But he also knew that Cale would hate them prying.

“…Choi Han.”

Tcf Alberu’s voice cut through the silence, low and commanding.

The swordsman hesitated before slowly meeting his gaze.

“I know you know something,” Tcf Alberu said. “Tell me.”

Tcf Choi Han’s hands clenched at his sides. “I can’t.”

“Can’t?”

Tcf Choi Han shook his head. “We’ve already crossed the line by seeing all this. If Cale-nim doesn’t want to talk about it, I won’t betray him further.”

Tcf Tasha and Tcf Rosalyn shared a look, and even Tcf Eruhaben, usually indifferent, gave a small nod of approval.

Tcf Alberu studied Tcf Choi Han for a long moment. Then, much to everyone’s surprise, he chuckled.

“…Good.”

Tcf Choi Han blinked. “Your Highness?”

“Thank you for respecting him, Instructor-nim” Tcf Alberu said simply.

He turned back to Tcf Cale, who was napping very soundly, completely unaware of the storm he had left in his wake.

Cale never willingly showed his weaknesses. That was something Alberu had learned early on. But tonight, for the first time, Alberu felt like he was beginning to see the truth.

His fingers brushed against Cale’s cheek, tracing the faint lines of exhaustion there.

Cale had always insisted he was fine. That he was just lazy, just indifferent. But Alberu knew better.

And if Cale refused to say anything, then fine.

Alberu would just wait.

He would stay by his side, just as he always had, until the day Cale finally realized he wasn’t alone.

Leaning down, he pressed a soft kiss to Cale’s forehead before murmuring, “When we get back home we should spend some time together, idiot. You still owe me a date.”

And for the briefest second, Cale’s fingers twitched in his grasp.

[He put the dragon down on the grass and continued to look at it. The dragon looked right back at him. Its eyes were once again filled with anger and resentment, as it curled its body up and looked ready to attack.

‘No wonder it continued to get tortured for four years. It won’t back down at all.’]

Tcf Dodori’s eyes sparkled with admiration as he observed the scene before him. “Such unwavering determination. Truly befitting of a dragon.”

Tcf Pendrick, hands clasped together in silent praise, couldn’t help but marvel at the sight. “A being worthy of its noble lineage.”

Tboah Eruhaben watched silently, his golden eyes filled with something softer than usual. He had seen some dragons over the centuries, but Raon’s resilience, his ability to trust and grow despite everything, was something extraordinary.

Meanwhile, Tcf Alberu, who had been watching from the side, finally stepped forward. With practiced ease, he reached out and ran a gloved hand over Raon’s head, ruffling the black dragon’s soft fur. “You did well,” he murmured, his voice calm but undeniably warm.

Raon let out a pleased hum, his tail curling around Alberu’s arm before giving a small nudge against his chest. The affectionate gesture had Alberu sighing in fond exasperation before glancing over at On and Hong, who were perched nearby, their ears perked as they observed.

“You two as well,” Alberu added, giving the children a rare, genuine smile. “All of you did great.”

On’s tail flicked slightly, and Hong beamed, while Raon puffed out his chest proudly. It wasn’t often they got direct praise from Alberu, but as Cale’s partner, he had long since fallen into the role of looking after them.

Tcf Cale, lounging off to the side, having been stirred from his nap simply smirked at the sight. “At this rate, you’ll end up spoiling them,” he teased, his tone light.

Tcf Alberu shot him an unimpressed look but didn’t deny it. With a sigh, he ruffled Raon’s head one more time. “Maybe, but that’s a problem for future me.

[That was why Cale personally liked this dragon. It was different from himself. Growing up being abused as an orphan, Cale, well, Kim Rok Soo, had given in. After that, he didn’t want to be the main character of a story, like Choi Han. After giving in at a place he called home, he didn’t think he had the strength to fight against the world.]

The room erupted in gasp and it fell into a loud talking with everyone’s voices mixing together.

“SHUT UP!”

At the shout, everyone ceased speaking and looked toward the voice.

“Cale. Who was it?” Tcf Eruhaben questioned in a gentle voice. ‘Who was the bastard that dared to hurt my child’

“Does it even matter? It was a long time ago. There’s nothing anyone here can do about it,” Tcf Cale calmly replied, his usual stoic face in place.

“Of course it matters, son,” Tcf Deruth stated.

“It won’t change anything,” Tcf Cale muttered indifferently.

“That may be true, but the answer still matters to us,” Tcf Violan added.

“Why would it matter? Nothing can be done about it, and it’s in the past,” Tcf Cale argued back.

“Haaaa….why are you such an infuriatingly dense human?” Tcf Rasheel sighed in frustration.

Before anyone else could start interrogating Cale, a quiet voice cut in.

“It was his uncle. Well now our uncle”

All eyes turned toward Kim Rok Soo.

“After our parents died in that accident, we were placed with our uncle. He was nice at first, but that didn’t last long.”

“Cale is what Roksoo said true ”Tcf Roslyn asked in a conserved voice.

“Sigh. What Rok Soo said is correct. I was sent to live with my uncle after losing my parents, and he was nice at first. Then he started gambling and drinking. He would take his frustrations and anger at losing out on me,” Cale informed everyone.

“That’s terrible. How could he hurt his own nephew?” Tcf Lily said sadly.

“It’s okay, Lily. You don’t have to feel sad about it. It was a long time ago, and it was my fault anyway,” Tcf Cale said, trying to comfort his little sister.

The room froze.

To Tcf Cale, it felt like the temperature had actually dropped, and the looks on everyone’s faces were terrifying. He couldn’t figure out why. He told them what they wanted to know and even tried to comfort Lily.

‘It’s not like I said anything wrong, so why are they all like this?’

That brief moment of confused, horrified calm lasted only a second before everyone simultaneously lost it.

“Why in the fucking hell would you think that?”

“Never. It is never the child’s fault.”

“Who the fuck told you that?”

“That bastard better be dead because if he isn’t, I swear I will find a way to make him.”

“That is it. I fucking need to kill someone. Someone needs to die. Preferably the one that made you think that.”

“QUIET!!”

The shout once again silenced everyone, drawing their attention to the shouter.

“Cale, it is never the child’s fault when an adult abuses them. No matter what the child has done,” Tcf Sheritt calmly explained.

“That’s right, human. It wasn’t your fault,” Raon joined his mother in trying to make his human understand.

“Our dongsaeng is right!” On chimed in.

“Right. They are right,” Hong added.

Tcf Cale frowned. “Why would you all say something so obvious? Of course, I know a child is never at fault for the decisions and actions of an adult.”

“Then why in the fucking hell would you say it’s your fault that bastard abused you?” Tboah Eruhaben demanded.

“Because it is,” Tcf Cale insisted.

“What the fuck is wrong with you? Why would it be your fault but not any other child’s fault?” Tcf Rasheel shouted.

“Because I was cursed.”

“What?”

Tcf Sheritt felt like she had been punched in the gut and slapped across the face at the same time.

“Why would you call yourself cursed?” Tcf Deruth asked his son.

“Because I was. Part of the White Star’s curse affected me,” Tcf Cale stated.

Her prayers went unanswered.

Tcf Sheritt clenched her fists, her normally composed face twisting into raw regret.

She had to make this right.

As the silence stretched on, Tcf Alberu felt something deep in his chest crack. He had always worried about Cale’s self-sacrificial tendencies, but he never imagined it ran this deep. This wasn’t just a man who a carried burden this was someone who truly believed his existence was a burden.

And that was unacceptable.

The children were the first to move. On, Hong, and Raon all clung even tighter to Cale, as if they could anchor him to the truth with their warmth alone.

“You are not cursed, human,” Raon stated with absolute certainty, his voice trembling but strong. “The world is lucky to have you. I’m lucky to have you.”

“That’s right,” On whispered, her tail flicking anxiously. “You saved us.”

“We would have died in that alley,” Hong muttered, his ears pressed flat against his head. “And if you weren’t here, I don’t think we would have ever had a real home.”

Tcf Cale sighed, trying to pry them off, but they refused to budge.

“This isn’t about me,” he said, rubbing his temple.

“Yes, it is.”

Tcf Alberu’s voice cut through, sharp and unwavering. He walked toward Cale, stopping right in front of him before kneeling down. His usual mask of charisma was gone. All that was left was Alberu Crossman, a man who was angry, devastated, and so, so tired of watching the person he loved refuse to see his own worth.

“Cale,” he said softly, resting a hand on top of Tcf Cale’s. “I need you to listen to me.”

Tcf Cale, sensing something in Tcf Alberu’s tone, hesitated but didn’t pull away.

“You are not cursed. Your existence has never been a curse,” Tcf Alberu stated. “You have only ever saved people. Look around you.” He gestured to the room. “Every single person here is alive because of you. Every single one of us is here because of you.”

“You saved us, but you won’t let us save you,” Tcf Choi Han added, his voice tight.

Tcf Beacrox, silent but furious, was gripping his knife so hard his knuckles were white.

Tcf Ron, who had remained uncharacteristically still, finally moved. He stepped closer, looking down at Cale with an expression even the normally perceptive Cale couldn’t read.

“Cale all of us love and care for you” Tcf Violan said firmly, stepping beside Tcf  Deruth. “You are our son, Cale. No matter what you believe about yourself, we will prove to you that you are loved.”

Tcf Cale looked around the room. Looked at the people who had become his family. Looked at their determined, pained, furious faces.

Something in him wavered.

“…It’s not that simple,” he said finally, his voice uncharacteristically quiet.

“I know,” Tcf Alberu admitted. “But we’re not going anywhere. So you’d better get used to it.”

And just like that, Tcf Cale found himself surrounded.

By family.

By love.

By people who refused to let him go.

[“Hey.”

Cale made sure the dragon was looking at him, then took out a pair of gloves and some scissors-shaped cutting tool. There were a lot of magic seals on both of the blades for cutting. He then put on the electricity-resistant gloves.

This cutter was one of the two items that had to be rented in Billos’s name. This was not something you could borrow with money.

‘I don’t know why you need this, but, young master, I hope to see you alive in the capital.’

‘You think I’m going to die?’

‘All I know is that you plan to cause a commotion.’

‘...Shut up.’]

"You never fail to stir up trouble, young master," Tcf Billos commented with a smirk, shaking his head.

“You do know that you are the one of the reason for Verion down fall” Tboah Billos said to his counterpart.

[Cale was thinking about the conversation he had with Billos, before realizing that his surroundings suddenly became extremely quiet. Choi Han was looking at the cutter with chaotic eyes, while the kitten siblings had moved away from Cale and were hiding behind Choi Han.]

“We’re sorry, Cale,” On said quietly, her tail curling around her paws. “Back then, we didn’t know any better. We thought all adults would hurt us eventually.”

“Yeah… We were just scared,” Hong mumbled, nuzzling against Tcf Cale’s arm.

Tcf Choi Han bowed his head. “I regret my reaction, Cale-nim. I should have trusted you more.”

Tcf Cale sighed, shaking his head. “You don’t need to apologize. Anyone would’ve reacted that way.”

His words should have been reassuring, but the tense atmosphere in the room didn’t fade.

Everyone had the same dreadful thought.

He’s not going to do something reckless… right?

[The dragon was still just staring at him.

“Tsk.”

Cale clicked his tongue at their response and approached the dragon. The mana restriction chain was made with something similar to rubber. If it was made of metal, it would not have fit the growing dragon. That was why it was made of something with some elasticity.]

“That bastard doesn’t deserve even a shred of comfort when we pay him a visit,” Tboah Mila said coldly, her usually gentle voice laced with venom. Her golden eyes burned with barely contained fury as her tail flicked sharply behind her. “Why should we offer even the smallest kindness to someone who caused so much pain? No, when we see him, he’ll experience nothing but the suffering he so freely inflicted on others.”

[He then grabbed the dragon’s neck.

“Gasp.”

The kittens took in a deep breath. However, Cale ignored them as he continued onward, since it was better to do this as fast as possible. The cutter headed for the dragon’s neck. The sharp blade shone under the moonlight, and the dragon just paid attention to Cale’s eyes. Cale’s eyes were emotionless and peaceful.

The dragon closed its eyes.]

"Wait—" Tboah Toonka's brows furrowed as he crossed his arms, his voice skeptical. "Don’t tell me when he said ‘freedom,’ he meant killing it?"

The room stilled. It was a horrifying thought, one no one wanted to consider. But it was also the question that had lingered unspoken among them.

Tcf Dodori shifted uneasily. He wasn’t particularly close to Tcf Cale, but he knew how much Raon trusted him. And yet… he still had to ask. “Raon, back then… when you were trapped, when you first saw him… why didn’t you fight back?”

Raon looked up from where he was nestled against Tcf Cale’s side. His wings twitched slightly before settling. His round eyes blinked slowly, as if searching for the right words.

“Because I didn’t need to,” he said finally, his voice firm. “The way the human looked at me… it wasn’t like the others. I didn’t trust him at the time, and I didn’t like him either.” His small claws tightened around the fabric of Tcf Cale’s shirt. “But something told me that he wasn’t going to hurt me. So there was no reason to struggle.”

His words carried a quiet certainty, one that settled heavily in the room.

Tcf Eruhaben, who had remained silent until now, exhaled softly. His golden eyes watched Raon with an unreadable expression before he finally spoke. “You’ve always been perceptive, little one.”

Raon straightened at the rare praise, his wings fluttering proudly. “That’s right! I have the best instincts, Goldie Gramps!”

“Of course you do,” Tcf Eruhaben muttered with a slight chuckle, shaking his head.

Hong, curled beside him, flicked his tail with a soft chuckle. “He’s right, though. Raon always knows who to trust.”

On, ever the quiet observer, finally spoke. Her sharp gaze studied    Tcf Cale before she murmured, “And he chose Cale.”

Tcf Cale, who had been listening with a tired expression, finally sighed. “I really don’t see why this is a big deal.” ’It really be your own kids’.

“It is,” Tcf Choi Han said, serious. “Raon saw something in you before any of us did.”

Tcf Toonka grumbled, rubbing the back of his head. “Fine, fine. But if you ever try anything reckless again, I’ll be the first to knock some sense into you.”

Tcf Choi Han raised a brow. “You’ll have to get in line.”

Ron, silent until now, gave one of his rare, amused hums. “Quite the long line, it seems.”

The tension in the room gradually eased, replaced by something else. Something warmer. Something that, despite Tcf Cale’s reluctance, tethered him to the people who refused to let him go.

At that moment, they all heard the snapping noise of something getting cut.

Sizzle. Sizzle.

The mana restriction chain was causing sparks in Cale’s hands.

“What are you looking at?”

Cale scoffed at the dragon that had opened its eyes back to look at him and took off one of the gloves and handed it to Choi Han. Choi Han put the glove on and Cale handed the chain to him before taking the potion out of his pocket.

It was a highest grade potion. Even this cost quite a bit to purchase. It made Cale feel bad for asking for an allowance the last few days before he left. Cale clicked his tongue and sharply stared at the dragon.]

Tcf Deruth let out a quiet sigh, his expression tinged with both exasperation and fondness. “Cale, you really don’t need to feel guilty about this.”

Tcf Cale, who had been absently poking at his tea, glanced up. “I wasn’t feeling guilty.”

Tcf Deruth gave him a knowing look. “You hesitated before asking for money.”

Tcf Cale frowned. “That’s normal.”

“It’s not,” Tcf Deruth said gently. “Not between family.”

Tcf Cale stayed silent, and Tcf Deruth couldn’t help but feel a familiar pang in his chest. His son—his ever-distant, always independent son—still acted as if relying on his own father was some kind of burden.

Wealth was a resource, just like any other. And if he couldn’t use it for his own family, then what was the point of having it?

“Yes, you receive quite a lot of pocket money,” Tcf Deruth admitted. “But what else am I supposed to do with all this wealth? Hoard it like a dragon?”

At that, Raon who had been quietly munching on a cookie perked up. “Hoarding wealth is a very responsible thing to do!”

Tcf Deruth chuckled. “Perhaps. But I’d rather spend it on my son.”

Tcf Cale sighed, rubbing his temples. “You’re making a big deal out of nothing.”

Tcf Alberu, who had been listening in silence, let out a dry chuckle. “Funny. You say that, but you’ve never once refused a gold plaque from me.”

Tcf Cale shot him a look. “That was different.”

“Was it?” Tcf Alberu drawled, leaning back in his chair. “Because if I recall correctly, you demanded payment after nearly every single one of your world-saving stunts.”

Tcf Deruth turned to him, mildly curious. “How many gold plaques has he taken from you?”

Tcf Alberu scoffed. “I lost count.”

Tcf Deruth hummed. “Sounds like he has no problem asking you for money.”

Tcf Cale scowled. “Because that’s a business transaction. You’re making this personal.”

“It is personal,” Tcf Deruth countered. “You’re my son.”

Tcf Cale opened his mouth, then closed it. He looked at the expectant gazes surrounding him Tcf Deruth’s patient warmth, Tcf Alberu’s amusement, Raon’s encouragement and let out a long breath.

“…Fine. I’ll stop hesitating.”

Tcf Deruth smiled, satisfied. “Good.”

Tcf Alberu smirked. “Now, about repaying me for all those gold plaques”

“No.”

Raon gasped. “Human, are you running away from your debts?!”

Tcf Cale groaned. “I saved the world—”

Tcf Alberu merely laughed, and despite himself, Cale felt the corner of his lips twitch.

Tboah Alberu who had witnessed this was now wondering what kind of relationship his counterpart and Cale has.

[“Do you know how much money I spent on you?”

The dragon could hear the same words he heard quite often. He had heard it almost every day since he was born. Why do you not listen to me when I spent so much money on you? Guess you need to be beaten some more. Then he was beaten. They said that he needed to stop thinking for himself and listen to them as they continued to beat him.]

Their expressions turned grim in an instant.

Venion Stan’s days were numbered. The moment they returned, fear and suffering would be the only things he’d ever know. There was no mercy left for him—only a fate he had long since earned.

Low murmurs of anger filled the room, hushed but filled with quiet, seething fury. Some clenched their fists, others tightened their grips on their weapons, but all of them shared the same dark intent.

Tcf Cale, however, wasn’t focused on Venion. His gaze was locked on Raon, his youngest, his child, the one who had suffered the most under that monster’s hands.

“I’m sorry,” Tcf  Cale said at last, his voice quieter than usual, but the weight behind it was unmistakable. “I didn’t know he said that to you.” His fingers twitched, restless with the guilt pressing down on his chest. “If I had known, I never would have said it.”

Tcf Cale wasn’t the type to dwell on things, but regret pooled deep in his stomach. He understood all too well how words could hurt more than any physical wound. How a single phrase could drag you back into the worst moments of your life. He had experienced it himself—had spent years swallowing down words that reminded him of what he’d lost, of what he couldn’t change. The fact that he had unknowingly done the same to Raon, even for a second, made something tighten painfully in his chest.

Raon blinked up at him, his round, blue eyes filled with something softer than forgiveness—understanding. “It’s okay, human,” he said firmly, his small voice unwavering. He shifted closer, pressing his warm body against Tcf Cale’s side, curling his tail around him like a silent reassurance. “I know you didn’t mean it like he did.”

His tiny claws gripped Tcf Cale’s coat, holding on as if to prove that he was here, that he was safe, that he wasn’t going anywhere.

Tcf Cale let out a slow breath, his fingers reaching up to ruffle the dark fur between Raon’s horns. The child purred softly, the sound a quiet comfort, but the tension in the room remained.

They could acknowledge that Tcf Cale hadn’t meant any harm, but that didn’t change what Venion had done. What he had taken.

“Venion Stan will pay for every last one of his sins,” Tcf Eruhaben said coldly, his golden eyes flashing with deadly promise.

Tcf Choi Han, standing silent until now, gripped the hilt of his sword tightly. “Death would be a mercy for him,” he murmured.

“That bastard doesn’t deserve mercy,” Tcf Ron added, his usual smile absent, replaced with something colder than ice.

No one disagreed.

Tcf Cale didn’t say anything, but as he looked around the room—at the silent rage, the unwavering determination—he knew one thing for certain.

Venion’s fate had already been sealed.

However.

“Since I spent so much money on you, you better heal properly, you stupid fool.”

The dragon did not feel any pain.

Cale poured about half of the potion onto the dragon’s back, and poured the rest into its mouth. Thankfully, the dragon did not resist, and swallowed it down.

After a few minutes, Cale could only think that it really was a dragon. The mana, which was the equivalent to the dragon’s heart and the source of all of its power, started to move in its body.

All of the injuries on the dragon’s body instantly disappeared, and a blue aura that seemed to be the dragon’s mana surrounded its body like the wind.

This change that occurred in an instant made Cale think about just how scary and powerful of an existence dragons really were in this world.]

The suffocating weight of worry finally lifted as everyone watched the small dragon sleep peacefully, no longer trembling in pain or crying out in his nightmares. His once battered body had been fully healed by the potions, and for the first time since they had found him, he looked like what he truly was a child, safe and resting.

A deep sigh of relief passed through the group. The fight wasn’t over, not by a long shot, but this moment this was a victory.

Tcf Sheritt, who had remained quiet until now, let out a shaky breath. Her hands, which had been clenched so tightly at her sides, finally relaxed. Her son was alive. Wounded, scarred, but alive.

Her lips trembled as she whispered, “My son lives.”

She turned to Tcf Cale, her eyes brimming with emotions too heavy to put into words. She had spent years locked away, helpless, unable to protect the child she had left behind. Now, here he was, alive and safe, and it was because of the people standing before her.

“I am forever grateful,” she said, her voice thick with sincerity. “To you and everyone who fought to save him thank you.”

Tcf Cale shifted uncomfortably, clearly unused to such direct gratitude. He opened his mouth, as if about to brush it off, but found himself hesitating under Tcf Sheritt’s unwavering gaze.

“…It wasn’t just me,” he muttered instead, glancing toward the others.

Hannah, who had been standing off to the side, let out a quiet exhale. A small smile flickered across her face, but it didn’t last. Something dark passed through her expression, and she quickly turned away, her hands tightening into fists.

Tcf Pendrick, on the other hand, was an entirely different matter.

The elf looked like he was about to combust. His ears twitched, his eyes shone with the barely restrained need to launch into an impassioned speech. The greatness of dragons, their unparalleled magic, their noble existence oh, he had so much to say.

His mouth opened. Then closed. Then opened again.

The others watched him cautiously, all clearly bracing themselves for a dramatic monologue.

Then…

“I must write this down,” Tcf Pendrick finally declared, face filled with determination.

And just like that, the tension in the room broke.

[“Hey.”

The dragon should have no reason to get injured anymore. The smart dragon seemed to understand what had happened to its body, as its eyes came completely back to life.

Cale took a step toward the dragon. The baby dragon curled up while continuing to observe Cale. Cale ignored the dragon and asked.

“What do you want to do now?”]

Warm smiles spread across the faces of everyone in the room at those words.

Relief, joy, and quiet anticipation filled the air as they turned their attention toward the small dragon. He was finally free, no longer shackled by pain or fear.

Tcf Sheritt’s eyes shone with both pride and longing as she gazed at the young dragon, her baby she is so glad that she can see how his life was without her. Tboah Choi Han stood with his arms crossed, a soft smile tugging at his lips, while Tboah Rosalyn watched with quiet understanding, knowing all too well what it meant to gain freedom after suffering.

Now, they all wondered what would he do with the freedom he had gained? Would he take his first steps toward healing, or would the scars of his past weigh too heavily on his wings?

[Cale started to smile while looking at the dragon that remaining silent.

“I know you can speak the human language. You are a dragon. The smartest and strongest existence in the world.”]

“That’s right, human! I am the great and mighty Raon Miru!” the little dragon declared, puffing out his chest and spreading his wings wide.

His voice was filled with pride, his scales gleaming under the light. The confidence in his words was unwavering, and for a brief moment, he truly seemed larger than life.

The sight was almost too much. Several people couldn’t help but smile fondly, while others outright melted at the sheer adorableness of it. Even the ever-stoic Tboah Choi Han let out a quiet chuckle, and Tboah Rosalyn covered her mouth to hide her amused grin.

There was no denying it Raon had already won over every single person in the room.

[Cale asked once more.

“What did you want to do once you got free?”

“...I.”]

As they read the account of Raon’s words, a quiet hush fell over the room.

The core members of Cale’s group, hardened by battles and countless struggles, felt a lump form in their throats. Even those who rarely showed emotion found themselves pausing, their gazes softening as they imagined the tiny black dragon, battered yet unbroken, speaking for the first time.

Tcf Rosalyn pressed a hand to her chest, her eyes shimmering with unspoken emotion. Tcf Choi Han clenched his fists, remembering just how small and fragile Raon had been back then. Tcf Eruhaben closed his eyes briefly, as if recalling the painful past of dragon hatchlings he had once known. Even Ron, usually unreadable, let out a slow breath, his grip on his teacup tightening.

No words were exchanged, but they all felt it the deep, overwhelming love and pride for the young dragon who had become family.

[The dragon started to speak. The dragon really did know how to speak the human language. It was much smarter than humans. There was no way it did not learn the human language in the last four years.]

Raon’s wings fluttered as his chest puffed up proudly at the praise of his intelligence by his human. His eyes gleamed with excitement, basking in the acknowledgment.

But amidst the warmth of the moment, a heavy sorrow settled over Tcf Sheritt. Her hands trembled as she pressed them over her heart, her breath hitching.

"Four years..." Her voice cracked, barely above a whisper. "Four years of suffering..."

Tears welled in her eyes as she shut them tightly, as if trying to block out the images of her son’s torment. "I’m so sorry, my son," she choked out, her body shaking with guilt. "I should have protected you... I should have been there..."

The room fell silent at her broken words, the weight of her sorrow pressing down on everyone. Raon, who had been glowing with pride just moments ago, turned to his mother, his expression softening.

He gently nudged her hand with his nose. "Mom, it wasn’t your fault," he said, his voice steady, filled with warmth. "You didn’t let it happen. That bad guy did it. And now, I’m free. I’m strong. And I have a family."

Tcf Sheritt opened her eyes, gazing at her son. He was right there, alive, healthy, and surrounded by people who loved him. The pain in her chest didn’t disappear, but as Raon snuggled against her, offering his warmth, she let out a slow, shaky breath.

Maybe, just maybe, she could start forgiving herself.

[“I.”

The dragon could feel it in his heart. With his current strength, he could easily kill the man in front of him. He was scared of the man in the back, but it would be possible for him to escape alive. He had gained the strength he had waited for so long to obtain.

That was why the dragon finally said the thing he had thought to himself over and over for the last four years. However, this was the first time he had ever said it out loud.

“I will live.”]

Soft smiles filled the room, the warmth of the moment settling over them like a gentle embrace.

Tcf Sheritt, with silent tears slipping down her cheeks, placed a trembling hand over her heart. Her voice, choked with emotion, barely rose above a whisper.

“Thank you…” A single tear rolled down her cheek, soon followed by another. She lifted her gaze to Tcf Cale, eyes filled with overwhelming gratitude. “Thank you, Cale.”

No other words could express what she felt. He had saved her son, given him a life beyond pain and darkness. For that, she would be eternally grateful.

Tcf Cale looked away, shifting uncomfortably at the raw emotion directed at him. “It’s nothing,” he muttered. “I just did what anyone would have done.”

But for Tcf Sheritt, for everyone who had come to cherish Raon, it was never just ‘nothing.’ It was everything.

Tboah Choi Han stood quietly at the side, fists clenching. Those words, spoken with such gratitude, hit him like a blade to the heart.

He once killed a dragon. A child. A being that had only wanted to live.

The past was unchangeable, the blood on his hands unerasable. No amount of regret would undo the sin he had committed. But even so…

Even so, he could make sure it never happened again.

He would protect those he could. He would wield his sword not for vengeance, not for himself, but to ensure that no one else suffered the way that child had.

Tcf Choi Han took a deep breath, pushing away the guilt that threatened to consume him.

This time, he would do better. This time, he would not fail.

[He will live, no matter what it took.

“I will go away.”

He was going to go away from here.]

Tcf Sheritt watched Raon with glistening eyes, a mixture of pride and sorrow in her expression. She took a deep breath, her voice steady but full of emotion. “Yes… live freely, my son.” The words were a quiet vow, a promise that no chains would ever bind him again.

On, who had been watching Raon intently, suddenly tilted her head. “Dongsaeng, you sounded just like Father just now.”

Raon blinked, caught off guard. “Huh?” He didn’t quite understand, but a small part of him was pleased at the comparison.

Hong snickered, his tail flicking behind him. “You acted tough and said one thing, but then did the opposite. Just like Father.”

Raon’s wings twitched as he processed the words, his round eyes widening slightly. “O-Oh… I guess I did…” His voice trailed off, his embarrassment clear as he lowered his head. “I was like… Father.” His last words were nearly a whisper, spoken with the hesitant sort of pride that made everyone’s hearts clench.

A soft chuckle broke the moment.

Tcf Cale, who had been listening without interruption, shook his head slightly. A small, almost imperceptible smile tugged at his lips.

It was fleeting. But it was real.

His family and friends shared knowing looks, warmth blooming in their chests.

Tcf Cale might never say it outright, but his love, his care, was always there—woven into every moment, every word, every choice. And they would always be there to remind him of that.

[He revealed his inner thoughts.

“I will not be tamed.”]

“That’s right! A dragon will never be tamed by anyone!” Tcf Rasheel declared with a smug grin, his voice brimming with confidence and pride.

Tcf Cale glanced down at Raon, who had already fallen asleep in his arms. The little dragon’s body curled comfortably against his chest, his tiny breaths slow and steady, claws clinging gently to the fabric of Tcf Cale’s coat. The sight filled him with an unspoken peace. Raon was safe, loved, and protected in a way Tcf Cale had never experienced as a child.

Tcf Cale Henituse had done more than provide for these children. He had given them the one thing they all deserved a life free from fear and filled with warmth, something Cale never knew during his own childhood.

Across the room, Tboah Cale watched, a sense of heaviness creeping over him. His fists were clenched, but there was no anger behind it. Only a gnawing emptiness.

If only he could turn back time, could he have given the dragon in his own world the life that Tcf Cale had given Raon? Could he have changed things for the better, offered the same protection and care that Tcf Cale Henituse so effortlessly gave to those he loved?

The difference between them felt sharper now, clearer in a way that was almost painful to witness. This Tcf Cale, the one sitting quietly with his children, was a man of warmth, of kindness that extended far beyond simple protection. He didn’t just shield his loved ones he healed them, filling in the cracks no one else had noticed.

But... weren’t they the same in some ways?

The Cale from Tboah world had sacrificed everything for Basen. He had devoted his life to ensuring his younger brother would inherit the title, so that Basen wouldn’t feel the isolation and pain Cale himself had known. But, in doing so, had Cale lost himself? Had his efforts to protect Basen resulted in the destruction of his own identity?

He had always thought of himself as selfish, as someone who couldn’t afford the luxury of true happiness. But now, watching Tcf Cale Henituse that belief was starting to waver. Was it really selfish to desire peace for oneself? Was it selfish to long for the warmth of belonging?

The sounds of laughter and easy conversation drifted from the scene on the screen, voices filled with trust and affection. It was a stark contrast to the loneliness that had settled deep within his chest, a quiet ache that had never quite gone away.

And in that moment, Tboah Cale wondered, for the first time, if he had been wrong all along. If, perhaps, he had only ever needed to believe that he was worthy of something more—worthy of warmth, worthy of love. Would things have been different for him if he had simply let himself believe?

[“Yes. You are right.”

Cale was saying the dragon was right.

“You are a dragon. A DRAGON. You have the right to live freely.”]

The dragons from the two timelines sat in a rare, quiet consensus.

“That human’s onto something,” Tcf Rasheel remarked, his pride swelling.

“He truly understands us,” Tboah Eruhaben agreed, his gaze thoughtful.

“Mom, that human is fascinating,” Tboah Dodori whispered, his eyes wide.

“You’re right, my son,” Tboah Mila murmured, clearly intrigued.

Tcf Cale couldn't help but feel a chill run down his spine. "Why do I have this feeling like I should just leave?"

He Turned to were the feeling was coming from the direction of the stares was were the dragons were in a consensus, this caused a fear in him.

To his surprise, the dragons didn’t seem disturbed. In fact, they all looked oddly at peace, almost content. Tcf Cale had somehow managed to tame not just one, but all of them. And while it should have been unsettling, the dragons didn’t mind at all. They were fine with it, even happy.

And that, more than anything, left Tcf Cale wondering if he should be concerned.

[Even a four-year-old dragon was stronger than most of the animals in the world. It had enough strength to survive on its own, and, normally, dragons were extremely independent and prideful. They generally wanted to create their own lair once they turned about two years old. It was completely worlds apart than a human two-year-old.

Cale looked into the eyes of the dragon, that still did not trust humans, and sternly started to speak.

“I will not take care of you.”]

The room went quiet, the tension palpable. Tcf Cale and Tcf Alberu, with On, Hong, and Raon by their side, watched the screen. Raon, in particular, let out a loud, exaggerated sigh, and On and Hong exchanged looks.

Tcf Cale glanced at the kids and Tcf Alberu.

“See? I told you, He never does what he says” Alberu whispered, an amused glint in his eyes. “He’s just a softie when it comes to children.”

Tcf Cale rolled his eyes but couldn’t suppress the smile tugging at his lips. The bond between them all Cale and his kids was undeniable. The relationship that had begun with reluctance and hesitation had blossomed into something far more meaningful.

“Yeah, yeah,” Tcf Cale muttered. “But I still didn’t expect it to turn out like this.”

On, Hong, and Raon sat comfortably, with a sense of belonging they had never known. The life they had now, under Tcf Cale was far different from the fear and uncertainty they had once faced.

They may have started as an unlikely family, but now they were stronger than ever, bound by love and acceptance.

[Cale did not have a reason to look after something that was stronger than him. There were also too many potential headaches to keep him around to pay back for Cale’s help. It was different from the children from the Cat Tribe, On and Hong. A dragon was beyond Cale’s limits.]

Tcf Bud burst out laughing. “Right, because one dragon wasn’t enough you had to go and collect a whole set!”” You may have even picked up major of the dragons that are a live even a dead one too.”

Tcf Cale groaned, rubbing his temples as Raon beamed proudly. Tcf Alberu chuckled beside him, shaking his head.

On and Hong snickered. “Dad does have a habit of picking up strays.”

“Excuse me?” Tcf Cale narrowed his eyes, but the knowing smiles around him said it all.

Family, it seemed, had a way of finding him whether he planned for it or not.

[The dragon could not trust Cale.

“Liar. Humans are good at lying.”]

Tcf Bud smirked. “Can’t argue with that. You told him you wouldn’t take care of him, and now look at you a full-time dragon dad.”

Tcf Cale sighed as Raon snuggled closer. Tcf Alberu chuckled, wrapping an arm around Cale’s shoulder.

“Denial never really worked for you, did it?” Tcf Alberu teased.

Tcf Cale groaned. “I don’t want to hear that from you.”

Laughter filled the room as the screen continued playing, proof of just how wrong Tcf Cale’s words had been.

[There was now anger in the dragon’s eyes. That anger was not directed at Cale, however. Dragons were naturally born with a lot of pride. This anger came from the years that his pride was trampled upon by the humans.

“I guess that is true. I do lie quite a bit as well.”

Cale easily accepted the dragon’s words, and continued to speak.]

Tcf Bud groaned, throwing his hands up. “Unbelievable! He just sits there while people insult him! Does he even know how to value himself?”

Tcf Alberu sighed, shaking his head. “At this rate, he’s going to start thinking that passing out is an accomplishment.”

“Shame on you, dongsaeng,” Kim Rok Soo teased dramatically. He turned to Raon, On, and Hong with a mock-serious expression. “Kids, lying is bad. Don’t follow your dad’s terrible example.”

Tcf Cale scoffed. “Ignore the nonsense coming from that corner.”

“Yeah, he’s probably lost it,” Tboah Cale added with a smirk.

The room filled with laughter at the ridiculous banter, the warmth of family settling comfortably between them.

[“Live however you want to live. What is it you want to do?”

“I-.”

The baby dragon lifted its head to look at the night sky. It was different from the darkness inside the cave. It was dark, but there was still light.

“I hate humans. I want to be free.”

“Good.”

Cale got up from his seat. He then took out some mid-grade potions and a smaller pouch from his magic bag and put the potions in the bag before handing it to the dragon.]

“He even left those precious potions behind… That human is truly unusual,” Tboah Archie murmured.

Tboah Witira let out a sigh, shaking her head. “And he still insists he’s selfish.”

“Because I am selfish” Tcf Cale said with his usual expression.

Raon, nestled comfortably against Tcf Cale, spoke firmly. “I am. I am living exactly as I want to.”

Tcf Cale glanced down at the little dragon, lips twitching into a faint smile. “Good.”

[“Live freely.”

The dragon’s black pupils enlarged and started to shake. However, there was still doubt and resentment in its eyes. Naturally, Cale did not care.]

Raon pouted, his wings flickering with annoyance as he stood with his arms crossed, his tail lashing in frustration. "Human! That was so rude!" he huffed, his little chest puffing out in indignation.

Tcf Cale, lounging on the couch with his usual calm demeanor, glanced at him lazily. "What are you talking about? You were the one who said you wanted to be independent," he said with a shrug, as if it were a simple matter of course.

Raon’s cheeks flushed a deep shade of red as he glared at the older man. His wings fluttered in exasperation. "Well, yeah, I said that, but you’re supposed to know me better than that! I didn’t actually mean it!" His voice was filled with a mix of annoyance and embarrassment, his small frame visibly puffed up with irritation.

Tcf Cale gave a small, knowing smile, still leaning back comfortably. "Oh? I guess I misunderstood then," he said, a teasing glint in his eye.

Raon huffed loudly, stomping his feet in a display of frustration. "Yes! You should’ve realized that I was just trying to act tough! I don’t actually want to be alone, you know!" His wings drooped slightly, the edges of his ears twitching in agitation.

Tcf Cale chuckled softly, the smile not leaving his face. He finally stood up, walking over to where Raon stood, and placed a hand gently on his small head, ruffling his hair. "I get it, kid. No need to act tough around me. You know you’ll always have me and Alberu to rely on, right?"

Raon’s wings twitched again, but this time it was in affection, and his cheeks turned pink as he nodded reluctantly. "Fine, fine. But you’re still mean for making me look silly!" he grumbled, though there was a hint of fondness in his voice.

Tcf Cale just laughed, ruffling his hair again before turning back to the couch. "Come on, let’s get some dinner. I’m sure Alberu is already planning something extravagant, as usual." Raon’s face brightened at the mention of food, his earlier irritation forgotten.

‘This should be enough.’

He freed the dragon, screwed Venion over, saved the village, and helped Choi Han understand what freedom means thanks to the dragon.]

Tcf Choi Han felt a familiar ache in his chest as a wave of jealousy crept up once more. He tried to push it aside, the same way he always did. It was useless to let it linger jealousy wouldn’t change the past, and it certainly wouldn’t help him now. The version of him from this world was different from the others, but in some way, he still had Tcf Cale’s support, even if it wasn't the same. That was enough, wasn't it?

Taking a steady breath, Tcf Choi Han focused on the present, forcing his thoughts away from what he couldn’t change. He was here, learning, growing, and most importantly, learning how to protect those who needed it. His voice was calm, though there was a softness to it that betrayed his internal turmoil. “Yes. It’s because of everything I’ve gone through that I’m able to learn how to protect and care for those around me.”

The words felt true, but they also felt like a shield against the weight of regret he carried. He glanced at the other Choi Han, the one from Tboah. His expression was tense, almost as if he was holding something back. The older Choi Han’s gaze, filled with longing and pain, met his. “If only I had known how to protect… would things have been different?”

The words were barely more than a whisper, but they cut through the air with a painful clarity.

“Would I have been strong enough?” Tboah Choi Han asked, voice cracking with emotion. His hand trembled as it clenched into a fist, the sharp, painful edge of regret hitting him harder than anything else.

“Would I have been able to protect the dragon?”

His eyes were full of questions that would never be answered, and it was clear that the weight of his past actions bore down on him. The village, the dragon, the choices he had made it all haunted him now.

Tboah Choi Han looked at him, seeing the same pain and regret mirrored in the eyes of the other. He reached out, a quiet understanding between them. “The past can never be changed,” he said softly, “but we can make the future different. That’s all we have control over now.”

Tboah Choi Han squeezed his eyes shut, as though trying to push away the ghosts of what could have been. “I should have done better,” he whispered, his voice barely audible. His hand shook harder, but there was something else in his gaze now a spark of resolve. It wasn’t much, but it was there. Maybe, just maybe, that would be enough to carry him forward.

[Most importantly, he did not need to take responsibility for the dragon. He could see in its eyes that it did not want to follow him. It was a very good conclusion. Cale spoke to his party members in a satisfied tone.

“Let’s go.”]

Kim Rok Soo and Tboah Cale exchanged a knowing look, both of them trying though failing to suppress their laughter. It was impossible not to when they both knew exactly where the little black dragon was at that very moment.

Tboah Cale glanced over at Rok Soo with a raised eyebrow. "You have to admit, it’s a bit funny," he muttered, his lips curling into a smirk.

Rok Soo couldn't hold it in any longer. He snorted, shaking his head. "You’re right. Who would have thought? The adorable little dragon is practically glued to Tcf Cale’s lap right now."

Both of them had seen it, the way Raon would snuggle up to Tcf Cale when he wasn’t paying attention, curling into his lap as though he belonged there. No one would believe it unless they saw it themselves Raon, the mischievous, fiery dragon, suddenly becoming a little ball of fluff when Tcf Cale was around.

Tboah Cale chuckled quietly, shaking his head with a wry smile. “It’s always the quiet moments that make me laugh. Cale’s not even trying, and Raon just...” He trailed off, his expression filled with a fondness that was hard to hide.

Rok Soo nodded, still chuckling. “I think that’s the magic of it. Cale’s has a way with the little dragon. Even when he’s not doing anything special, he somehow manages to make Raon melt.”

Both of them continued to laugh quietly, sharing a moment of amusement over the dynamic between Tcf Cale and the dragon. They didn’t need to say anything more; the image of Tcf Cale with the little dragon curled up on his lap spoke volumes. It was something they could both appreciate one of those rare, unspoken moments of warmth and affection that made everything feel a little lighter.

[He turned his back to the dragon with no regrets, and started to walk. Choi Han silently followed behind Cale and focused on altering their tracks. The kittens, who hesitated for a moment, saw the dragon turn its gaze away from Cale before following behind him.

Once even the Cat Tribe sibling turned away from it, the dragon lifted its head and watched them walk away.

“...I hate humans...they are evil...”]

Tcf Pendrick’s eyes shone with admiration as he gazed at the young black dragon, his voice almost reverent as he whispered, “Oh, Dragon-nim, if you were to visit the Elf Village, we would welcome you with open arms. There, you would be surrounded by nature, free from the presence of humans.” His tone was hopeful, almost wistful, as if envisioning an untouched paradise where Raon could thrive.

Raon, however, puffed up his chest, his wings twitching with confidence. “Hmph! That’s unnecessary!” he declared proudly. “I am older and wiser now, and I know that not all humans are bad!” His bright golden eyes gleamed with certainty.

Tcf Pendrick blinked, momentarily caught off guard by the dragon’s firm response. Then, slowly, a smile tugged at his lips. “I see… You’ve found humans worth trusting.”

Raon nodded enthusiastically. “Of course! My human is the best, and there are others who are good too!” His tail swished happily as he spoke, leaving no room for doubt.

Tcf Pendrick chuckled softly, shaking his head in amusement. “Then, Dragon-nim, it seems you have found something even more precious than a sanctuary.”

[For some reason, the dragon was paying more attention to the back of the human, the race that he was annoyingly used to and hated, rather than the night sky that it was seeing for the first time. Hong slowly approached his sister On as they followed behind Cale.

“Noona, I think he’s going to follow us.”

“Uh huh. I think so too.”

“Am I going to get a younger brother?”

“It looks like it.”]

Raon huffed, his wings fluttering in frustration. "How did you all know I was going to follow you before I even decided?" he grumbled, clearly put out by the fact that his siblings had anticipated his choice before he had.

On simply flicked her tail, her golden eyes gleaming with quiet amusement. "It was obvious," she said smoothly.

Raon tilted his head. "Obvious how?"

Hong let out a small chuckle, his red eyes twinkling. "The way you looked at Cale," he said knowingly.

On nodded in agreement. "We've seen that look before," she continued, her voice warm with understanding. "Because before we followed him, we looked at him the same way."

Raon blinked, his pout deepening as he processed their words. Then, with a small huff, he turned his head away. "Hmph! That doesn’t mean anything!"

The siblings only exchanged a glance, both of them smiling. They knew better.

[The kittens were conversing with themselves, but Cale scoffed at them and retorted back.

“No way. Dragons are extremely prideful and will never accept being under a human. Furthermore, this dragon hates humans.”]

Tcf Eruhaben leaned back with a knowing smirk, his golden eyes filled with amusement. “Under normal circumstances, you’d be absolutely right,” he drawled, pausing for effect. Then, with a pointed glance at the young dragon beside him, he added, “But we both know Raon is anything but normal.”

Raon’s wings flapped indignantly as he gasped, his round eyes widening. “Hey! What’s that supposed to mean, Goldie Gramps?” he huffed, puffing out his chest. “I’m not weird! I’m just one of a kind!” His tail flicked dramatically behind him, emphasizing his words.

Tcf Eruhaben let out a chuckle, clearly entertained. “Oh, I don’t mean it in a bad way,” he reassured, though his smirk remained. “It’s just that most dragons wouldn’t be so... enthusiastic about a human.”

Raon tilted his head, blinking. “What’s wrong with liking my human? My human is the best!” He declared proudly, his voice ringing with absolute certainty. “He’s strong, smart, and very nice! Well... most of the time.”

Tcf Eruhaben sighed, shaking his head with a fond expression. “And that,” he said, “is exactly what makes you unique.” His voice softened slightly, warmth seeping into his words. “Most dragons wouldn’t even think about following a human, let alone trusting one the way you do.”

Raon paused at that, his wings twitching slightly before he huffed again, turning his nose up. “Hmph! That just means other dragons are missing out!”

Tcf Eruhaben chuckled once more, shaking his head. “Yes, yes, I suppose they are,” he murmured, watching as the little dragon puffed up proudly. Even if Raon was different from other dragons, there was no doubt that his uniqueness was what made him so endearing.

[On’s expression seemed to disagree. If a cat had a mocking expression, it would probably be the one of On’s face right now. On shook her head and quietly mumbled.]

Tboah Bud let out a bark of laughter, shaking his head in amusement. "Pfft! Getting mocked by your own kid now that’s something to see!"

Tcf Alberu smirked, his eyes glinting as he added, "Your daughter is definitely a miniature version of you, dongsaeng."

Tboah Rosalyn, barely hiding her amusement, flipped a page in the book she had been reading. "You know," she mused, glancing up, "the more I observe, the more it seems like On has the most common sense out of all of you."

Tboah Tasha chuckled, nodding in agreement. "Yeah, I’d say that’s pretty accurate."

On’s fur practically gleamed with smug satisfaction, her tail curling in triumph as she basked in the praise. Meanwhile, the rest of the Tcf group looked completely scandalized.

Tcf Cale scowled. "Hey, I’m perfectly sensible!"

Raon flapped his wings, puffing up. "Smart Rosalyn it seems that even smart people have their off days because, I am incredibly smart and make excellent choices!"

Tcf Bud snorted, clearly entertained. "Right, right. And I’m the picture of responsibility."

On purred contentedly, utterly pleased with herself as the others continued to grumble.

[“...I don’t think so.”

“...Uh huh.”

Hong looked behind him before agreeing with his sister. The Black Dragon was still looking in their direction. Hong was now sure. This dragon will enjoy its freedom for a bit, before sharing some beef with him in the future.

Cale ordered the two kittens who were whispering to each other.

“Go get the orb back.”

The two siblings went to get the orb so that they could eat some more beef. Cale did not even look at the siblings, as he patted Choi Han’s shoulder.

“Good work.”

Today should have been the first time Choi Han ever saved anything. There was that battle with the bandits earlier, but that was more protecting than saving.

Of course, the actual events changed from saving the village people from the dragon in the novel to saving the dragon that he actually had killed in the novel, but the important thing here was that he, ‘saved,’ someone.]

Tboah Litana studied Cale with a calculating look, her voice laced with curiosity. “So, you even thought about details like that. You really went out of your way to keep things aligned with the novel while cutting out the worst parts.”

Tcf Cale scoffed, leaning back with an unimpressed expression. “Obviously. Only a complete fool would sit back and let disasters happen when they have the power to prevent them.” His tone was matter-of-fact, as if any other choice was unthinkable.

Tboah Alberu raised an eyebrow, watching Cale thoughtfully.

It was becoming more and more apparent that Cale wasn’t just nudging events along but he was actively reshaping them. Tboah Alberu had been observing him carefully and realized that the man standing before him had done more than just alter fate. He was changing the course of destiny itself, yet somehow, the important events of the pivotal encounters still seemed to happen as if guided by an invisible hand.

Tcf Cale wasn’t just influencing Choi Han’s journey. Tboah Alberu had a nagging suspicion that Cale had shaped countless others as well, strengthening people, changing their paths, and turning them into something greater than they might have ever been.

And perhaps the most surprising part? Tcf Cale didn’t seem to realize just how much of an impact he had.

“Cale-nim.”

“What.”

Choi Han was silent for a while after calling out to Cale’s name, before he finally started to speak once again.

“What if the dragon decided that living as it wants was to follow you, Cale-nim?”

“That will never happen.”

“What if. Just hypothetically speaking.”]

Raon tilted his head, looking at Tcf Choi Han with wide eyes. “Wait, you knew I was going to follow my human too?” he asked, his voice full of surprise and curiosity. He wondered if others could tell what he was going to do even before he made up his mind.

Tcf Choi Han blinked in surprise, then let out a small sigh, scratching the back of his head. “I didn’t know for sure,” he said, his tone thoughtful. “But I could tell you were attached to Cale. When someone stares at him the way you did, it’s pretty clear they’re going to stick by his side.” He smiled a little, almost amused by the question. “In a way, it was obvious that you’d follow him.”

Raon puffed up his chest a bit, proud of himself but also slightly embarrassed. “Well, of course! I’m not just going to leave him alone! My human needs me!” he declared with a wag of his tail.

Tcf Choi Han chuckled at Raon’s confidence. “I understand. Once you’ve made up your mind, there’s no turning back.” His expression softened. “In that way, we’re similar. I knew I’d follow him too, even if I didn’t have all the answers at first.”

Raon’s eyes sparkled with understanding. “So it’s like you just knew, huh? That no matter what happened, you’d be with him.”

“Exactly,” Tcf Choi Han replied with a smile. “Once you make that decision, there’s no real question left.”

[‘Hypothetical?’

Cale thought about it for a while, before lightly responding.

“I don’t think about what ifs or the past.”]

Tcf Rosalyn smiled warmly, her eyes softening as she looked at Raon. “You’re really something, Raon. That was Cute,” she said with a chuckle, clearly fond of the little dragon.

Tcf Tasha nodded in agreement, her voice filled with affection. “You’re just too cute. Honestly, how could anyone not love you?”

’He’s so cute I hope when every Alberu has children their as cute as Cale’s children’ a thought that Tboah Tasha had looking at Cale’s kids.

Raon’s cheeks flushed slightly, and he fluffed up his wings in pride, a pleased grin spreading across his face. “Of course! I am pretty amazing, aren’t I?” He gave a little twirl, clearly enjoying the attention.

[But for some reason, Cale suddenly got the chills and looked behind himself for the first time since walking away from the dragon. Thankfully, the Black Dragon was not visible.

Cale sighed in relief, before returning to the inn and falling asleep. That was why he did not know that the dragon used magic for the first time to become invisible, and sat at his window for a long time before leaving. The dragon was tightly clutching the bag of potions that Cale had given him.

The next day, Cale had to deal with Choi Han’s questions from early in the morning.

“Cale-nim. There is a city coming up in a few days. Is that the middle point?”

It was almost time for Choi Han to finish making up his, ‘payment,’ that Cale had talked about.

It also meant that Cale was getting closer to receiving another ancient power for himself. Originally, in the novel, the eldest son of Marquis Stan’s family, the one who was pushed out by Venion, would find this ancient power in about a month. It was his last glimmer of hope, but, unfortunately, it ended up being a power that he could not use.]

“Human.. Cale thank you for saving me “ Roan said snuggling into his father’s chest.

Tcf Cale looking down at smile with a warm glow and be gone stocking Roan”s head.

“Your Welcome Raon” Tcf Cale said in a comforting tone.
