Chapter 2

As the night begins to wane, after a night full of passion and emotion. The first hints of dawn start to break. Caitlyn, ever aware of the approach of the sunrise, looks uneasily out the window.

"Vi," she says softly, reluctantly untangling herself from their embrace. "The sun is coming up. As much as I want to stay here with you, I have to get to the basement of the safe house, it’s the only place that blocks out all sunlight.”

She stands up, gathering her clothes hastily as she prepares to leave.

Vi sits up, her eyes filled with worry. "I understand, Caitlyn," she says softly. "But I want to make sure you're safe. Can I help you get there?"

She stands up, gently taking Caitlyn's hand. "You don't have to face the sunrise alone. I'll be with you every step of the way." There's a sincerity in her words, a genuine desire to take care of Caitlyn and ensure her well-being.

Caitlyn looks at Vi with a mix of gratitude and admiration. "Thank you, Vi. Knowing you'll be there makes a world of difference."

They get dressed quickly and, hand in hand, make their way to the basement of the safe house. It's a small, dimly-lit room with no windows, and on king size bed in the middle of the room. However, it's completely dark.

Once inside, Caitlyn breathes a sigh of relief, knowing she's safe from the sunlight. "We'll have to wait here until sundown," she says, turning to Vi.

As they settle into the room, Vi holds Caitlyn close, not wanting to let go.

"I'm glad you're safe," she says softly, her voice filled with relief. "We'll stay here together and wait out the day. I'm right here with you."

With a tender smile, she continues, "Caitlyn, this night has meant more to me than I can express in words. I never imagined this could happen between us, but I'm so grateful that it did."

Caitlyn gazes into Vi's eyes, her heart brimming with emotion. "This night has been a revelation for me too, Vi. Your presence has brought a light into my existence that I thought was lost forever," she admits, her voice filled with tenderness.

She wraps her arms around Vi, holding her close. "I'm thankful for you, for everything you've done and everything you've shown me. This night is one I'll cherish forever," she whispers, pressing a gentle kiss on Vi's forehead.

In the darkness of the basement, Caitlyn finally allows herself to relax, knowing that Vi is there with her. The emotional and physical intensity of the night has left her exhausted, and she drifts off to sleep in Vi's arms.

As the morning passes, the only sounds are their steady breathing, the outside world temporarily shut out as they remain locked in their intimate embrace.

Vi watches over Caitlyn as she sleeps, her gaze filled with tenderness. She gently brushes a stray lock of hair away from Caitlyn's face, noticing how cold her skin feels.

In her sleeping state, if Vi didn’t know any better she would think Caitlyn is dead. Her body incredibly stiff, not breathing as much as a human should, and her body was ice cold.

Vi starts whispering words of love and adoration beneath her breath.

Eventually, as the day wears on, Vi's eyelids grow heavy as well. Despite trying to fight it, fatigue overtakes her, and she too drifts off into a deep sleep, cradling Caitlyn protectively as if guarding her from the world.

As the sun moves into its peak, Vi stirs from her sleep. The hunger pangs in her stomach become too much to ignore, making it clear that the night's events had drained her more than she realized.

She looks around the dimly lit room, realizing that Caitlyn is still asleep. Carefully, so as not to disturb Caitlyn's rest, Vi decides to venture out to find some food.

Vi slowly untangles herself from Caitlyn, making sure to keep her movements gentle as to not wake her. Once free, she quietly stands and exits the basement, taking care to close the door quietly behind her.

Once in the main area of the safe house, Vi begins searching for food. She rummages through cupboards, finding some non-perishable items, and makes a makeshift meal. With her hunger temporarily satisfied, she returns to the basement, eager to be with Caitlyn once again.

As the first rays of evening slip through the cracks in the basement, Caitlyn stirs. The dim light reveals a figure standing nearby, and she realizes it's Vi, watching over her as she wakes.

"Good evening," Caitlyn says softly, her voice a little raspy from sleep. "How long have I been out?"

Vi smiles at Caitlyn, her eyes filled with warmth. "You've been asleep for a while, Caitlyn," she responds, moving closer. "The sun is just starting to set now."

She sits down beside Caitlyn, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. "I hope you were able to rest well. You looked so peaceful sleeping," she adds, and there's a hint of concern in her words, remembering Caitlyn's pale and cold appearance.

Caitlyn leans into Vi's touch, smiling appreciatively. "Thank you for staying with me," she says softly. "I feel... a little better now."

She sits up straighter, pushing back her long hair with a hand. "It's been a while since I rested so deeply," she confides. "I guess the events of last night took a lot out of me."

Turning to look at Vi, she adds, "How about you? Have you had anything to eat?"

"I managed to find a few things to snack on," Vi responds with a reassuring smile. "I didn't want to leave you for too long, so I grabbed some non-perishable items from the kitchen."

She reaches out, gently brushing a stray strand of hair away from Caitlyn's face. "I'm just glad you're feeling better. Let's take things slow tonight. We can start with something simple, like finding you something to feed on."

Caitlyn nods in agreement, her eyes flitting towards the window. The sky is growing dark, the twilight signaling the end of the day.

"You're right, Vi," she says quietly, her gaze returning to Vi. "I think it's time to go out there and find my sustenance."

Steeling herself, Caitlyn stands up slowly, her expression determined. "Will you come with me, Vi?" she asks, offering her hand to the other woman.

Vi doesn't hesitate, taking Caitlyn's hand and standing up beside her. "Of course, I'll be with you every step of the way."

As they walk towards the door, Caitlyn leans in, pressing a soft, grateful kiss against Vi's cheek. "Thank you," she whispers, her heart full of gratitude and the comfort of knowing she is not facing the night alone and she doesn’t have to hide her nature.

As the night wraps around them, Caitlyn and Vi venture out into the darkened streets of Zaun.

The air is cool, and the city's nighttime aura is a stark contrast to its daytime hustle and bustle.

Holding hands, they navigate the shadows and alleys, their eyes surveying for anyone who might pose a potential threat, but also searching for something else - someone or something Caitlyn can feed from.

Reaching the edge of Zaun, Caitlyn leads Vi into the sprawling wooded forest that borders the city. The dense trees provide cover and isolation, the perfect hunting ground for a vampire like Caitlyn.

She stops, tilting her head to catch the faintest of scents. A moment later, her eyes zero in on a large doe drinking water from a nearby stream.

"There's a potential meal," Caitlyn whispers, her eyes trained on the unsuspecting deer.

With a fluid grace, Caitlyn moves silently through the shadows, drawing closer to the doe. In a blur of motion, she pounces, striking with precision and speed, feeding swiftly on the blood of the animal.

A moment later, Caitlyn lets out a satisfied sigh, wiping the remaining blood from her lips with the back of her hand. She feels rejuvenated, her vampiric strength and senses heightened once again.

"That should do for now," she says quietly, her normally blue eyes gleaming with a hint of red in the moonlight as she looks at Vi.

With her thirst quenched for now, Caitlyn approaches Vi, her steps light despite the strength she just consumed.

"Are you alright?" Caitlyn asks, her voice filled with affection as she cups Vi's face gently and searches her eyes for any signs of discomfort.

"It doesn't scare you, seeing me like that, does it?" Caitlyn asks, her voice softer, almost afraid of the answer she might receive.

Vi looks into Caitlyn's eyes, reaching up to touch the hand on her cheek. "No, it doesn't scare me," she answers sincerely. "I know you, Caitlyn. I trust you."

She offers a smile, which soon turns into a cheeky grin. "Besides," she adds, her tone slightly teasing. "You looked so graceful doing your whole 'vampire thing.' Like a lethal ballerina... with fangs."

Caitlyn chuckles, her cheeks coloring slightly at the playful compliment. "A lethal ballerina, huh? I'll have to remember that."

She leans in, resting her forehead on Vi’s, their closeness a tangible reminder of the bond they have formed. "I'm so glad you understand, Vi," she whispers. "Your acceptance means more to me than words can say."

Her voice trembles a bit with the weight of her emotions. "You make me feel seen… and accepted - for what I am."

Vi studies Caitlyn’s face, wondering how anyone would want to cause harm to such a beautiful woman.

“If I may ask, how did this happen? How did you become a vampire?” She asks nervously, as she hesitates to meet Caitlyn’s eyes.

Caitlyn stills for a moment, taking in Vi's question. She knew this moment would come, but the memories of what happened so many years ago still sting.

Turning away slightly to gather her thoughts, Caitlyn begins to speak, her voice quiet.

"My story... it's not unlike others of my kind," she starts, her fingers playing with the fabric of her shirt as her gaze settles on the dense woods surrounding them. "I was turned against my will, by someone who... who took pleasure in causing pain."

Her tone carries the weight of the scars she bears.

Caitlyn takes a deep breath, gathering the strength to proceed with her tragic origin story.

"I was captured…kidnapped as a negotiation tactic to my mother who was a councilor. Having the commander of the enforcers and daughter of a councilor is a hell of a negotiation chip.” she says looking at her feet, then back at her hands.

“I fought... hard, but it wasn't enough, when they failed to come to a solution I was offered to a group called the Grangels. I was turned and held prisoner for a century." she admits, her voice quivering slightly as the fear and pain of that fateful night washes over her.

"They stole my humanity, and... I've been living like this ever since."

Her gaze remains fixated on the dark forest, avoiding meeting Vi's eyes. "I'm a monster," she says softly, the pain in her voice echoing through the quiet night.

Vi's heart aches at the tale of suffering Caitlyn has just shared.

"You're not a monster, Caitlyn," Vi insists gently, reaching out to place a comforting hand on Caitlyn's shoulder. "What was done to you was cruel and unjust. You didn't choose this life."

She moves around so she's in front of Caitlyn, looking directly into the vampire's eyes. Her voice is firm, her sincerity ringing clear. "You are so much more than just a vampire, Caitlyn. You're a survivor."

Caitlyn looks at Vi, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. Hearing those words, validating the pain that she hides so deeply, it overwhelms her.

Swallowing hard, Caitlyn nods, her voice barely above a whisper. “Thank you, Violet. Your words mean so much to me.”

As Vi moves to embrace her, Caitlyn doesn’t resist. Instead, she leans into the comfort, her hands clutching onto Vi’s shirt, burying her face in the crook of her neck, and weeping softly.

Vi continues to hold Caitlyn, letting her cry and releasing the emotions she usually keeps under lock and key. She strokes Caitlyn's hair gently, whispering reassurances.

After a long while, when the tears subside and Caitlyn’s breathing evens out, Vi pulls back slightly. She brushes Caitlyn’s tears away with a tender touch, and then their eyes meet.

Before either knows what's happening, their faces are moving closer, irresistibly drawn towards each other, until their lips come together in a gentle and comforting kiss.

The moment their lips meet, a warmth spreads through both of them, erasing the cold ache of the night. The kiss is gentle, and the connection that sparks between them is undeniable.

When they finally pull away, it’s clear that their bond has deepened. Their breaths mingle in the air, and their eyes meet in silent understanding.

“Vi,” Caitlyn whispers, her voice just a breath, “I…this feels…” She can’t find the words, but her eyes speak volumes.

Vi reaches up, pushing back a strand of hair from Caitlyn’s face, “It does.”

Their lips meet again, this time with more confidence, their kiss deeper, more passionate. Hands explore each other, tentative yet eager. The fire between them is undeniable, and it fuels their connection.

As they break apart, breathless, they share a smile. Vi chuckles softly, her voice a little hoarse. “I think we might need to find a better place to continue this.”

Caitlyn, still a little dazed, can only nod, her heart racing with the intensity of the moment. "Agreed."

They begin to make their way back through the dark forest, their hands intertwined, their connection a beacon guiding them through the night.

As they navigate their way, they take occasional pauses, their lips meeting in sweet kisses, fueled by the intimacy of their shared connection. Finally, they emerge from the woods and make their way back to topside.

They need to get back to Caitlyn’s estate, they need to work on the case. They need to find where Silco is, and stop the string of random murders.

Oh, there’s so much they need to do. But what is burning on their mind, is the need to be with each other.

Arriving at the estate, they quickly make their way inside. With a shared knowing glance, Caitlyn leads Vi through the grand halls to her private quarters.

The door of Caitlyn’s suite swings open, revealing a spacious room filled with luxurious furnishings and silken sheets, providing a sanctuary from the world outside.

Caitlyn turns to Vi, her eyes reflecting a myriad of unspoken desires. "Are you sure you want to… take this further?" she asks softly, giving Vi a chance to back out.

"Of course, Caitlyn," Vi responds, her voice filled with sincerity. "Your strength is something to admire, not fear."

She steps closer, reaching out to take Caitlyn's hands in hers. "I want you," Vi continues, her eyes locked onto Caitlyn's. "Vampire, human, it doesn't matter. You're still the same incredible woman I've grown to care for."

Her hands move to Caitlyn's hips, bringing their bodies closer, her lips hovering tantalizingly close to Caitlyn's. "Now," she whispers, her voice heavy with desire, "where were we?"

Caitlyn responds not with words, but with action, closing the small distance that remained between them. She crashes her lips onto Vi’s in a hungry kiss, her arms wrapping around Vi’s neck, pulling her closer.

The kiss is electrifying, filled with passion and need. Their bodies press together, heat building between them as they stumble backwards, falling onto the plush bed that awaits them.

As they collapse onto the bed, Caitlyn doesn't break the kiss. She rolls Vi onto her back, never once releasing her lips from Vi's.

She straddles Vi's waist, her legs spreading wide to either side of her as she continues to devour Vi's mouth.

Breaking the kiss, Caitlyn starts to grind her hips against Vi's, their combined juices making a mess between them.

She reaches down to grab Vi's semi-hard cock, stroking it to life. She positions it at her entrance once more.

Without warning, she impales herself on Vi's cock, taking the full length in one swift motion. "I'm can’t get enough of you yet, Vi..." she breathes heavily, starting to ride Vi's cock slowly and intentionally.

Vi's eyes widen in surprise and pleasure as Caitlyn takes control, her large hands gripping Caitlyn's hips tightly.

She starts to meet Caitlyn's thrusts, her hips lifting off the bed to push her cock deeper into Caitlyn's soaked pussy.

Caitlyn's pace quickens, nails digging into Vi's chest as she loses herself in pleasure. "Vi...you feel so good... I don't want this to end."

She leans down, her breasts pressing against Vi's muscular chest while she continues to ride.

Vi wraps her arms around Caitlyn, squeezing her tight against her chest as their bodies move in sync. "Then don't let it end, sweetheart. I can keep going all night long." In a swift move, Vi flips their positions, pinning Caitlyn beneath her.

Caitlyn gasps as she's flipped onto her back, her legs instinctively wrapping around Vi's waist. She looks up at Vi with heavy-lidded eyes, her face flushed with desire.

"Prove it, Vi. Fuck me until I can't walk straight."

With a wicked grin, Vi begins to pound into Caitlyn, her thick cock splitting Caitlyn open with each forceful thrust.

The bed creaks and shakes beneath them as Vi sets a brutal pace, determined to make good on her promise.

Caitlyn's back arches off the bed, her body tensing as she gets closer to the edge. She can feel Vi filling her completely, hitting spots inside her she didn't know existed. "Vi...you're so big..." she whimpers.

Vi's face contorts with effort and pleasure as she continues to slam into Caitlyn, "You like that? You like taking all of me?" She growls, her voice dripping with dominance.

Caitlyn nods frantically, tears of pleasure streaming down her face. "Yes, Vi, yes! I love it! I love your big cock inside me!" She screams as an intense orgasm rips through her, her pussy clamping down on Vi's cock like a vice.

Vi moans loudly as she feels Caitlyn convulse around her, but she doesn't slow down.

She keeps pounding into Caitlyn, chasing her own release. "Not done yet...not done..."

Just as Vi thinks she can't take anymore, Caitlyn's walls start to flutter and convulse again, her body shaking violently beneath Vi. With a loud, Animalistic cry, Vi buries her cock deep inside Caitlyn and holds it there, flooding her with a massive load of cum.

Caitlyn's body goes limp beneath Vi, completely spent. She wraps her arms around Vi's neck, pulling her closer as they both catch their breath.

"Vi... that was... fuck." Her voice is breathy, satisfied, as she feels their combined cum leaking out of her.

With a lazy, satisfied smile, Vi rolls off of Caitlyn, landing beside her on the bed. She pulls Caitlyn into her arms, holding her close.

"Told you I could keep going, Vampires can’t get pregnant can they?" Vi says with a playful smirk, her voice still husky from exertion.

Caitlyn chuckles softly, snuggling into Vi's warm embrace. "I don’t think so. And even if we could, I’d still let you fill me up every chance you could."

Vi's eyebrows arch in pleasant surprise at Caitlyn's words, a slow smile spreading across her face. "Oh yeah? Good to know I don't have to pull out then, cause it’s way too late for that." She gives Caitlyn's ass a playful smack before pulling the blanket over them.

Caitlyn lets out a soft giggle as Vi smacks her ass, a blush coloring her cheeks. "True, all the more reason to keep going."

She traces idle patterns on Vi's chest, her finger circling one of the scars.

As Caitlyn's finger traces the scar, Vi's body tenses slightly, but she doesn't pull away. "You always touching my scars..." She murmurs, her voice low. "You like them?" She asks, trying to sound casual.

"I do," Caitlyn whispers, her fingers continuing to trace the raised, silvery line. "They tell a story. They show how strong you are. That you've survived..."

She looks up at Vi, her eyes filled with unspoken questions. "Who gave you this one?"

Vi's expression darkens at the mention of scar, her hand instinctively reaching up to cover the scar. "Your warden at Stillwater," she says through gritted teeth. "Thought he could break me with his cane."

Caitlyn's eyes narrow with anger at the thought of someone hurting Vi.

"He's the reason you were so closed off when we first met," she states more than asks, her fingers tightening possessively on Vi's chest.

"Yeah... He liked to remind me of my place. That I was nothing more than a dangerous animal to be contained and controlled."

Vi's voice is cold and bitter, her eyes distant as she's pulled back into those dark memories. "But he never broke me. I made sure of that."

Caitlyn's anger flares, her heart aching for the young Vi who had to endure such cruelty. "Fuck him," she snaps, sitting up and glaring down at Vi.

"He's a worthless piece of shit for treating you that way."

Vi looks up at Caitlyn, a small, wry smile tugging at her lips. "That's the nicest thing anyone's ever said about him," She says dryly, her hand finally falling away from the scar. "But enough about him."

Caitlyn's expression turns determined, her eyes locking onto Vi's. "Answer me something," She demands, her voice lowering. "Did he ever... Did he ever hurt you so bad…you thought…?"

"Not with his beatings," Vi admits quietly, her voice barely above a whisper. "Though there were times... when the solitude, the endless days of nothingness... it wore me down more than any physical pain."

She looks away, vulnerable for a moment. "Sometimes I thought..."

Caitlyn swallows hard, her mind reeling with the thought of Vi breaking under the weight of her isolation. "You ever think about ending it all?" She asks softly, almost hesitantly, her eyes searching Vi's face for any sign of the darkness she must have felt.

Vi takes a deep breath, her voice thick with emotion. "Once..." She admits, her voice barely above a whisper. "I hit my head against the wall until I was barely conscious, my head bleeding thinking it would never stop... thinking it would just... end everything."

She pauses, her voice cracking slightly. "But then..."

"Then what? What happened that stopped you?" Her voice is urgent, her fingers gripping Vi's shoulders tightly, afraid to hear the answer but needing to know all the same.

"Tell me... please," She whispers, her heart racing at the raw vulnerability being exposed. "Did something change?"

“I passed out and had a dream of a stranger” Vi finally admits.

"A dream?" She prompts, her eyes widening with unspoken questions. "Of what? Who was this stranger? Did they say something? Did they do something that made you wake up and decide not to... not to end it all?"

"They just smiled at me, a complete stranger dressed in an enforcers uniform with blue eyes and blue hair" Vi whispers, her eyes misting over as she remembers. "A gentle smile, without judgment. She said, 'Not yet, Violet. You have so much more fire to share with the world. I need you'" Her voice becomes stronger.

“I knew I needed to find this person” Vi says, struggling to hold tears back.

Caitlyn leans in closer, her brow furrowed in intrigue and concern. "That's intense..." she murmurs, her fingers gently brushing away a stray tear from Vi's cheek.

"Sounds like destiny, or fate, or... something. Did you ever find this stranger?"

Caitlyn's eyes widen in shock, her heart skipping a beat as the realization hits her.

"I... I was the stranger?" She whispers, her voice trembling slightly as she processes this revelation. "Vi, look at me... She gently lifts Vi's chin, searching her eyes for confirmation.

Vi nods slowly, her eyes locked onto Caitlyn's, a mix of emotions swirling within her. "You," She confirms, her voice barely above a whisper.

"It was you. In my dream, you saved me. You gave me a reason to keep going, to find my fire again."

Caitlyn's eyes glisten with unshed tears, a profound emotion passing between them. "Vi... I had no idea..." She breathes out, her voice heavy with the weight of this revelation. "That dream, it was more than just a dream for both of us."

“And I pushed you away when we first met because I was scared of letting anyone in.” Vi admits, not making eye contact with Caitlyn.

Caitlyn's heart aches at Vi's admission, understanding and compassion filling her eyes. "Oh, Vi..." She murmurs, gently tilting Vi's chin up to make her look at her. "You pushed me away because you were scared, not because you didn't feel the connection."

Vi's avoidance of eye contact breaks Caitlyn's heart a little, but she presses on, needing to know.

"Answer me something," She says softly, her thumb gently lifting Vi's chin higher.

"Vi, is there a part of you, even now, that still wants to be alone? To retreat from the world and everyone in it?" The question hangs in the air between them, heavy and raw, an olive branch of vulnerability extended by Caitlyn to Vi.

Vi's breath catches in her throat, her voice barely above a whisper "Yes..." She admits, her eyes welling up with tears "A part of me still feels safer that way... but when I’m with you, I never want to be alone again..." Her voice trembles slightly.

Caitlyn's heart swells with emotion at Vi's admission, a warm feeling spreading through her chest.

She gently brushes away the tears from Vi's cheeks, her fingers lingering on her soft skin. "Safer?" She repeats softly, searching Vi's eyes.

"Safer from getting hurt," Vi speaks so quietly, her voice trembling "From losing someone again..." She takes a deep breath, her eyes meeting Caitlyn's "From letting someone in..." Her voice breaks slightly

"From loving someone," Caitlyn whispers, finishing Vi's unspoken words, her thumb gently wiping away the tears that escape Vi's eyes.

"You're scared to love again, because it hurts. It hurts so much when you lose it..."

Vi nods, tears streaming down her face as she lets out a shaky breath. "Yes, that's it exactly," She says, her voice choked with emotion.

"I'm scared of loving someone and losing them, of being alone again..." She looks up at Caitlyn, her eyes pleading.

With trembling hands, Caitlyn gently cups Vi's face, her thumbs still wiping away tears. "Vi," Her voice is soft but firm "Maybe being alone hurts because you're meant to be with someone who understands you..." She moves closer, their faces inches apart.

“Maybe I’m supposed to be with you, that was the purpose of my dream” Vi finally admits.

Caitlyn's eyes shine with hope and unshed tears, her heart pounding in her chest. "Let me in, Vi. Let me love you, the real you... the parts that are strong and vulnerable, the parts that set your soul on fire." Her voice trembles with emotion.

As Vi looks into Caitlyn's eyes, filled with love and vulnerability, she can feel Vi's warmth closing the gap between them.

Without warning, Vi's arms wrap around her waist, pulling her closer. Caitlyn feels Vi's breath against hers, hesitating, waiting.

Caitlyn's heart soars as Vi finally brings them together, their lips meeting in a soft, tender kiss. Caitlyn wraps her arms around Vi, holding her close as she pours all her love and emotion into the kiss. "Vi..." She whispers against Vi's lips, her voice choked with happiness.

Vi deepens the kiss, her fingers tangling in Caitlyn's hair as she holds her closer, like she never wants to let go. After a moment, she pulls back slightly, her forehead resting against Caitlyn's.

"I've never felt this way about anyone..."

Caitlyn smiles softly, her fingers gently stroking Vi's cheek. "I know, Vi. I've never felt this way about anyone either. You're the missing piece I never knew I needed,"

Vi chuckles softly, a playful glint in her tear-stained eyes. "Missing piece, huh? Is that why you fit so perfectly?" She whispers teasingly, her hands sliding down to rest on Caitlyn's hips.

"I guess we were made for each other."

The rest of the night is filled with quiet conversations, gentle laughter, and passionate kisses. They lose track of time, wrapped up in each other's presence. Caitlyn listens to Vi's dreams and fears, and Vi learns about Caitlyn's hopes and insecurities.

Days turn into weeks, and they fall into a comfortable routine.

They work together on the case, their minds meshing perfectly as they piece together clues. In between, they steal moments to be together, holding hands, sharing secret smiles, and sneaking kisses when they think no one is looking.

Two months have passed, and their connection has grown stronger with each passing day. The passion they share has deepened, their love becoming something tangible and real.

Between stolen touches in evidence rooms and whispers of 'I love you' before falling asleep, their bond is unbreakable.

Everything was perfect…until it wasn’t.

Caitlyn was in the middle of explaining a complicated piece of evidence to Vi when her vision suddenly blurred. She stumbled, grasping at the air before collapsing onto the living room floor, her body convulsing briefly before going limp.

Vi's heart stops as she sees Caitlyn fall, her worst fears coming to life. She immediately rushes to her side, gently cradling Caitlyn's head.

"CAITLYN! NO!" Her voice is urgent but shaking with fear. "Sweetheart, please... wake up."

Vi's confusion turns to panic - Caitlyn is a vampire. But vampires don't faint, they don't get sick, they don't collapse without reason.

Vi decides to do the unthinkable, she calls the Kiramman family doctor. The doctor has been loyal to Caitlyn for decades upon decades. His family has been loyal to the Kiramman’s for generations upon generations.

Vi doesn’t even know if the doctor knows her secret, but as he starts examining her that question is quickly answered.

The Kiramman family doctor arrives within minutes, his bag in hand. He examines Caitlyn thoroughly, checking her eyes, her fangs, looking for any sign of what might have caused her to faint. "When’s the last time she fed?”

Vi answers immediately, "She feeds regularly, every night. She can't go a night without blood, you know that." The doctor's expression darkens.

"Vi, I need you to answer something else for me,"

"Has Caitlyn been experiencing any unusual symptoms recently? Extreme fatigue, dizziness, weakness? Anything at all that seems out of the ordinary for a vampire of her age and strength?" His voice is low and serious, the gravity of the situation evident in his tone.

"I need the truth, Vi."

Vi takes a momentaries, his, before, stands up, her eyes filled with concern as she looks at the doctor. "She's been a bit...off lately. Tired more easily than usual, increased hunger even for her, and she's had a few incidents where she feels ill."

The doctor nods solemnly, his fingers gently pressing against Caitlyn’s stomach. "I've read about this in old vampire lore. Answer me one more question." He meets Vi's worried eyes

"Have you and Caitlyn been…sexually active?" The doctor's voice is low and urgent, his gaze locked on Vi's.

Vi swallows hard, her heart pounding in her chest as she realizes what he might be implying.

Vi hesitates, blushing slightly at the personal question, "Yes, we have been... Why?"

The doctor's face grows grave, "Vi, listen to me carefully. I think Caitlyn might be..." He pauses, as he takes out a portable sonogram device.

The doctor quickly explains what he needs to do as he begins to scan Caitlyn's stomach with the sonogram device.

"I think Caitlyn might be pregnant, Vi. Vampire pregnancy is extremely rare, but it's not unheard of. Especially in cases where the mother is as young and healthy as Caitlyn."

The room falls silent as the distinct, steady thumping fills the room. The doctor looks up at Vi, his eyes wide with disbelief and awe. "Vi...It's a heartbeat. Caitlyn is pregnant." He turns back to the device, counting the beats.

Vi's eyes widen in shock and disbelief. She looks at Caitlyn's still form, her mind reeling.

"That's...impossible. Vampires can't have children." The doctor shakes his head, "Not impossible, Vi. Rare, yes, but not impossible."

The doctor prints out the sonogram, showing the clear image of a tiny, developing fetus inside Caitlyn's stomach.

"Vi, this baby is very real. And it's growing inside Caitlyn as we speak." He hands the paper to Vi, his expression serious.

Vi paces nervously, her mind thinking of a thousand things every second. “Is it human?” she dares to ask.

The doctor looks Vi in the eye, his tone gentle but firm.

"By all means it appears human, Caitlyn will need to eat regular food to sustain the pregnancy. If she relies only on blood it could cause health issues for both of them. Human food will make her sick but not sick enough to cause any harm..."

He hesitates, knowing this is a lot to take in.

Vi carefully lifts Caitlyn into her strong arms, cradling her close as she carries her to their large, plush bed. She lays Caitlyn down gently, tucking a soft blanket around her sleeping form. The doctor follows, setting his medical bag on the nightstand.

"Vi, I need you to be gentle with her when she wakes up. She might be disoriented and emotionally fragile. This discovery has been... traumatic, even for vampires."

The doctor attaches an IV slowly infuses the blood, causing Caitlyn's eyelids to flutter. "And Vi..."

"You should probably start getting her some human food. Maybe some soup or toast. Something gentle to start with." He looks at Vi seriously, "And Vi? You might want to prepare yourself for a lot of changes in the coming months. Caitlyn's life, and yours, will never be the same."

The doctor heads out as Vi thanks him.

Caitlyn's eyelids slowly open, blinking in confusion as she looks around the dimly lit bedroom.

She notices Vi seated beside her on the bed, her expression tight with worry. "Vi... what happened? Why do I feel so strange?"

Vi takes Caitlyn's hand gently, bringing it to her lips for a soft kiss. "Caitlyn, the doctor had to give you a blood transfusion. You were severely hungry." She pauses, debating how to break the news. "And there's something else, love."

Caitlyn's eyes widen in confusion and a hint of fear as she looks at Vi, squeezing her hand tightly.

"What is it? You're scaring me, Vi. Just tell me." Her voice is soft but with an underlying tone of worry and desperation to know the truth.

Vi takes a deep breath, mustering courage to voice the incredible truth.

"Caitlyn... you're pregnant. The doctor found a fetal heartbeat using the ultrasound." She watches Caitlyn's reaction intently, bracing for shock or disbelief. Vi hands the picture of the sonogram to Caitlyn.

Caitlyn stares at the sonogram, her mind refusing to comprehend the image. She looks up at Vi, eyes wide with shock and disbelief. "Pregnant? But... but that's impossible!"

She throws the blanket off and sits upright, clutching her stomach. "How? I’m a vampire!"

Vi moves closer, putting a comforting hand on Caitlyn's shoulder.

"I know it seems impossible, love, but it's real. The doctor said he's seen something similar before - though rare, it's not completely unheard of with vampire and human couples. The thing is..."

Vi takes Caitlyn's hands in hers, looking directly into her eyes.

"Love... the doctor discovered something else. The baby - it's fully human." She catches Caitlyn's shocked expression. "Completely human. Which means..." She pauses, choosing her words carefully.

“Which means when you feed we’ll have to do it like this,” Vi says, gesturing to the IV bag “We’ll have to feed you through an IV and you’ll also need to eat human food for the baby.”

Caitlyn's heart aches at the realization of the baby's mortality, tears pricking at the corners of her eyes. "Like this?" She looks at the IV bag, feeling a sense of dread. "And eat human food? But I'm a vampire, Vi."

"I know, love. But for the baby, you need to try." Vi's expression turns stern but caring.

"The doctor said it's crucial for the baby's development. We'll start slow, maybe some soup or juice to begin with. And I'll handle the feeding through the IV."

Caitlyn nods slowly, understanding the necessity but still struggling with the idea. "Alright... alright, I'll try. For the baby." She looks at Vi, her eyes filled with a mix of fear, love, and determination. "But Vi, promise me something."

"Promise me you'll be with me every step of the way. Through the feeding, the eating human food... whatever comes next."

Caitlyn grasps Vi's hands tightly, seeking comfort and reassurance in her partner's presence. "I'm terrified, Vi. I always wanted children, then when I was turned I accepted the fact I would never be able to have kids. It’s something I had to mourn and now I’m pregnant.”

Vi's heart melts at Caitlyn's words, seeing the vulnerability and fear in her eyes. She pulls Caitlyn into a tight hug, murmuring into her ear.

"Of course, love. I'm in this with you, every single step. We'll face this together, okay?"
