Farewell
Summary
“I figured out that I should probably show you my face before I kill you off…” Hayeon was still shivering on the floor, swallowing a huge lump of saliva while staring up at the triangle guard with an ak47 hung around her shoulder.A mochiz angsty fic inspired by the series Squid Game (to be more specific, Squid Game s1)

Gunshots

Hayeon looked around the game arena, witnessing many lives lost. She held the dalgona candy with an umbrella shape faintly carved on tighter in her hands and looked at the triangle guard beside her. She then whipped her head to the timer.

2 minutes left

“Shit…” Hayeon cursed with a shaky voice and continued back to focusing on her own dalgona candy, she was sweating bullets at that point.

She slowly navigated the toothpick on her hand across the still perfectly fine faint cut out of the umbrella shape and scraped the sharp tool against it. Her hands were shaking more and more as she heard more gunshots firing in the room.

Hayeon was glad she chose to sit at the corner of the huge room, at least she didn’t have to see bodies getting shot in front of her, or getting blood splattered on her, or else it would trigger her more, resulting in her dying sooner.

However, the presence of the triangle guard standing beside her was scarier than any of that. “Would you actually kill me?” Hayeon turned her head to the triangle guard and asked. To her dislike, the triangle guard just pointed at the dalgona candy in her hands and said nothing.

1 minute left

Hayeon was panicking even more now. Just as she was about to arrive at the handle of the umbrella with the toothpick, she heard and saw something unpleasant to her life.

Cracks

Hayeon threw the dalgona candy onto the ground with her eyes widen, her eyeballs looking like it’s about to pop out from its socket. She hugged her knees and slowly turned her head towards the triangle guard who wrapped their shaky hands around their gun.

The triangle guard cleared their throat.

“I figured out that I should probably show you my face before I kill you off…” Hayeon was still shivering on the floor, swallowing a huge lump of saliva while staring up at the triangle guard with an ak47 hung around her shoulder.

The familiar feminine voice of the triangle guard rang in Hayeon’s head. The player was too shocked to even think about the origin of the voice at that moment so she just continued staring. “Player 019, ehem, I mean, Hayeonie.”

The nickname…

A chill sent itself down towards Hayeon’s spine. The player’s mouth dropped a bit. No one besides a girl that has a special place in her heart calls her by that nickname. She brought her shaky fingers up and pointed at the triangle guard.

The triangle guard looked around, making sure that the slide in that arena has completely blocked off the view of that corner they were at, she slowly took the hood of the pink jumpsuit off, then shakily took the triangle mask off, revealing her red watery eyes and the balaclava that’s soaked in tears.

The guard continued to take the drenched black head piece off, letting her hair drop loose and now all her face features were revealed to the player.

“C-Chaewonie…” Hayeon spoked, she couldn’t contain her shock when she saw who the guard was. Her lover, aka the girl that has a special place in her heart as mentioned. The player began letting her tears drip down her face, she stared at her lover’s face, part of her is happy to see her again but another part of her was too guilty to face her.

“Hayeon ah, I-I couldn’t believe we have to meet like this after a whole month of you missing, I was so desperate to find you…” Chaewon’s heart ache further and further. “But when I saw you in the first game…I was hoping that maybe you could get out of the game with that 45.6 billion won, and like that, maybe we can finally build a better future between you, me and our child.”

Chaewon sobbed harder and harder. “It’s all over now…”

“N-No…just give me one more chance, I know you wouldn’t like killing me off too, I’m sure I’ll win.” Hayeon grabbed Chaewon’s hand, pulling it away from the gun. However, the guard just shook it off. “I’m so sorry I have to put all the debt onto you and Haerin, I promise…I will be a better girlfriend and a mom from now on.” Hayeon was begging continuously.

Chaewon felt like giving it in, but if she does, she’ll die too. She thought about her daughter and how untrustworthy Hayeon is, she couldn’t trust her lover anymore. “I’m sorry, I couldn’t trust you anymore, I have to live for Haerin, I promise I’ll take good care of her, I love you.”

Hayeon dropped back onto the ground. Chaewon wrapped her hands back around the gun and aimed the weapon at Hayeon’s forehead. Her tears were still dripping nonstop. “I’m really sorry honey, but it’s time to say goodbye.” The guard said her final goodbye before firing the gun.

BANG

“Player 019 is eliminated.”

“Mommy!” The six-year-old Haerin ran towards Chaewon. “I have soooo much fun in grandma’s house…but I missed you a lot.” The child pouted and hugged her mommy. Chaewon smiled and hugged her dearest daughter.

“Awww my little Haerin, I missed you too, I’m so sorry I couldn’t visit you cause I have w-work.” Chaewon choked at the last word, making Haerin looked at her with concerned filling her doe eyes.

“It’s okay, at least you are here now, but I miss my mom too, when is she coming back?” Haerin asked innocently, unaware that her mom, Hayeon is now gone. Chaewon smiled bitterly, trying to hold back her tears, she replied.

“Mom Hayeon had gone somewhere far away to work and earn money for us.” Chaewon’s voice cracked a little. “She’ll be back soon, she misses you too.” Chaewon patted Haerin on the head and watched her child go running back into her grandma’s house to fetch her things.

“Mommy! I’m ready, now let’s go home and wait for mom’s return.”
