The Beginning
Before its destruction, Krypton was a beautiful planet. More advance than Earth ever could. Under Rao, Kryptonians lived in his teachings and thrived in the planet they loved.
Krypton was composed of houses, some higher than others. There were hierarchies of course, no one can deny that even if that isn't what they call them. One of the most noble and ancient houses we come to familiar with are El, Ze, and Zod. The El Family were scientist, leaders in the Science Guild, driven by their pursuit of knowledge and logistics. The House of Ze is powerful in the High Council, they give justice and sense of security to Krypton for millennias. The House of Zod were mainly in the Military Guild, some fear them, some pay respect to their family. These families date back even when Krypton was an Empire—a glorious one at that. With all this history behind the names, it makes sense that the heirs or children live up to it.
In The House of El, the oldest of Don-El is Jor-El. But the matriarch found him unfit to be the heir to their house; he was forgetful, rash, loose, but Jor didn't mind not carrying those responsibilities. So, who else would the title be given to? Zor-El, Don's favored one. He was obedient, resourceful, competent, and everything the perfect heir would have.
On Krypton, you don't get to decide your partner, it is decided by the Codex to see who you are most compatible with. This system has done wonders for them, barley any couple seperating, and if they do not love the other anymore, they remain friends and still be married. The Kryptonian is scanned two times in their life, one when they are 8, and two when they are 16.
When it was time for Zor-El's turn when he was 8, it flashed the name 'Alura In-Ze'. His heart skipped a beat when he saw it. Alura was his friend, yes she was beauti—exceptionally pretty in his eyes, he still kind of scoffed at the idea. Their families were close, almost every one within the same class as them. Alura was a fighter, quite the joker, and annoying to times. Zor didn't like when his friend would interrupt his studies when they were kids. And Alura loved it, especially when she found out that they were 97% compatible.
"You're stuck with me for eternity, Zor," A giggling Alura said after their tutoring session. Her blonde hair growing darker each year.
Zor-El rolled his eyes at her, elbowing her stomach. "Rao, I hope not. You're insufferable."
Another 8 trips around the Red Sun and it was still the same result. Though, this time, they couldn't deny their feelings for each other. Astra and Jor had set them up quite a few times, which made the couple want to choke their siblings but the two just laughed and always answered with "You'll thank us in the future."
When they were 22, they had their bonding ceremony. Officially connecting the El and Ze family. Alura kept her name, it wasn't uncommon for Kryptonians to keep their house name after meeting their zhao. They would usually have their heir take one of the couple's name and have their next children take the others' name. This prevents some of the House's name to not go extinct, and Krypton has a policy of only having less than 3 children, but the ideal amount is 2.
3 years later, In the quiet majesty of dawn, when the world teetered between darkness and light, she entered—her first breath carrying the weight of destiny. September 22nd, in Earth's calendar, marked her arrival, the equinox gifting her a balance of celestial energies, as if the universe itself conspired to crown her birth.
Rao, rising in reverence, cast its golden fingers upon her brow, anointing her with its eternal warmth. A kiss of light claimed her forehead as its sovereign, as though nature declared her royalty not by blood alone, but by the stars' decree. Zor-El and Alura looked at the baby in awe, filled with love and admiration.
Alura cradled her in her arms. Just a few months ago, she disagreed in personally carrying their daughter instead of waiting for her time in the Birthing Matrix to finish. Now, she was so glad she had done it. Her calloused, but soft, hand brushed the blonde hair that looked like her own when she was young. The girl cooed to her fingers, and Alura's heart exploded with affection.
Zor-El smiled, not taking her eyes off of the two most important people in his life. He kissed Alura's hair, his hand on their child's tiny hand. "What will we name her, Zhao?" He let Alura lean on his chest as they watch the baby.
"Kara," Smiled Alura. "I want to name her Kara," Kara's seem to like the name, as her hands tighten on Zor-El's fingers. She opened her eyes, and the sight made Zor-El tear up. "She has your eyes, Zhao," Alura chuckled. Kara's orbs were faint, but it was clear she had inherited the House of El's eyes. Azure blue, with the gold ring around her pupil, Nd the specks of green and light blue in them.
After a few minutes of them spent mesmerizing on their baby, the door opened. Jor, Astra, Don-El, Taril (Zor and Jor's Mother), In-Ze, and Lor In-Ze came through the door. They immediately swarmed around them, making Alura and Zor laugh. They expressed their congrats to them.
"What's her name going to be?" Astra said, hopping next to Alura's bedside. Her gaze fixated on her niece.
"Kara In—" Zor started but was cut off by Alura. "Zor-El, Kara Zor-El." Alura smiled, raising an eyebrow at her husband. They had a few bantering on whose name their daughter would take, both spouses wanting for her to take the other's bame, in the end, Zor didn't have the backbone to say no to her wife.
Zor-El smiled, taking Alura's hand.
"Kara Zor-El."
