i actually wrote the first chapter of this collection back in 2024, but i never wrote more that year so i didn't upload it! here it is. i often think of odysseus' suicidal ideation in the original story of the odyssey and feel sad... stay strong for your puppy, outis!

Blood stains her hands and the fabric of memory, but Outis presses forward, the screams of the Smoke War trailing like the wailing ghosts she’s made. Mothers sobbing over broken cradles, brothers screaming names that will never answer back. She tells herself she’d do it all again—the boy’s body turned to nothingness once it hit the asphalt over the wall of Troy, innocents left mangled in the horse she’d created—because Penelope waits, a silhouette of home she will claw her way back to, even if it means becoming unrecognizable by the time she arrives.
