Note
I don’t usually do sequels, but this just came to me.

Alex couldn’t believe it when her eyes opened the next morning, to a sight that she never imagined again in a million years, but there was Maggie, fast asleep in her arms, the weight a comfort that she had been missing for years now. She just lay there for a while, watching her sleep and enjoying the feeling of her being in her arms, until a shrill cry interrupted her musings, followed shortly by two more. Alex sighed softly, gently kissed her beginning to wake girlfriend on the forehead and moved to get up.

“Wha?”, asked the sleepy detective. “It’s just the kids love, go back to sleep”, Alex murmured softly, heading into the nursery to feed the babies. After the kids were all settled, Alex made coffee and blueberry pancakes, and once Maggie was awake, they snuggled on the couch eating, before heading out to watch the Rose Bowl Parade, the kids being watched over by Kara and Lena. They oo’d and ah’d at all the floats, and then headed to the pier for lunch.

They wondered round Seaport Village, enjoying window shopping all of the stores. Before they headed home for some relaxation and more cuddles, they went to the beach, where Alex showed off her surfing skills and even tried to teach Maggie a bit on a surfboard lying on the sand.

After they grabbed some hot chocolate, they headed to Alex’s friend’s house to pick up the female poodle puppy that Alex had already reserved and prepaid for. She was 12 weeks old and named Gertrude, much to Maggie’s dismay.

After that, they walked back to their house, which Alex had bought when she adopted the newborn triplets, with the puppy in one hand, and with the other, Alex took Maggie’s hand, humming happily.

It was a big adjustment for Maggie over the coming months, but she realized that she wouldn’t have it any other way, because she finally got her lifetime of firsts, with the women that she loved more than anything in this world, and despite her reservations, she learned for herself that she really did make an excellent mother.

And it all started on that one New Year’s Eve, when she decided to take the risk, and woke up to a brand new life that New Year’s Day.
