What hope a smile can bring.
Sirius POV
Sirius raced through the Forbidden Forest as fast as his four legs would take him. It was difficult carrying the bag in his mouth and being careful with the souls inside, but he figured the grumpy flower would keep them safe for the most part. Suddenly as if summoned the flower popped up out of the bag. Like a fucking daisy.
“Hey you mangy mutt, be careful. I know at least one of these souls is pathetic and a stiff breeze would turn him into dust.” The flower complained, and Sirius had to wonder as he ran, why his life came to this. At what point did fate decide to have him interact with a talking flower?
Sirius couldn’t really reply so he only growled, and the flower went back into the bag. Sirius, did not in fact be petty and start jumping over logs and doing what ever he could to make the ride as painful as possible for the flower, no he did not because for all he knew the flower could be telling the truth and he could accidentally kill one of Frisk’s friends. So no he was not petty… at that moment.
When Sirius reached the clearing where the Statues were he spat out the bag, and turned back into his human self. Then he decided to be petty and he ripped the flower out of the bag and growled.
“I am not a mutt!” before he aggressively planted the flower into the ground.
Sirius remembered Frisk saying something about Flowey being able to move about underground once he was planted, so he was pleasantly surprised to find that was true when the flower burrowed into the ground where he was planted and then appeared a few feet away by one of the statues.
“Alright I’m not sure how long Chara can hold them off, so who do we give their soul back to first?” Sirius turned to the flower to find him frozen.
“Cha-Char…Did you just say Chara?” The flower stuttered out, barely able to form a sentence.
“Uh, yeah. Chara, that’s the demon kid that possesses Frisk every now and again when they get sudden bloodlust, right?” Sirius shrugged. The flower only seemed to grow more confused.
“That wasn’t Frisk during the fight back there where they rescued me was it?” Sirius shook his head. Then suddenly the flower gained a demonic presence followed by a truly demented face. Sirius took a step back for a second unsure if he should prepare for a fight when the flower burst out laughing in this chaotic laughter that shook Sirius to his core. “If Frisk and Chara are in the same body again, then we can take our time, nothing is going to stop those two. Their determination is too strong when they’re together.” Then in a smaller voice that Sirius almost missed the flower mumbled “It’s why they were so good at the Genocide runs.” Sirius decided to put a fucking pin in that and to ask Frisk about it later.
“That still doesn’t tell me who we should free first.”
“Hmm” the flower put a leaf to his face and stared at the statues before him thinking. Then his eyes landed on one tucked behind a skeleton and a goat. “That one, he was a companion on Frisk’s adventures, even helped fix Chara’s music box on one run. He wasn’t useful, and honestly, he was kind of stupid, but I do know Frisk has a soft spot for the kid. So do him first.”
“Okay,” Sirius hefted the bag up higher and then looked into it into the many colorful souls and came up short. “Uh?”
“Call his name, his soul will remember it. I think it was Monster Kid or something stupid like that, that kid’s parents need a naming class.” The flower grumbled the last bit under his breath.
“Okay, so uh…Monster Kid. We have your uh, body waiting for you?” a yellow soul floated up and out of the bag slowly, as if it wasn’t sure what it was supposed to do. Gently Sirius cupped the soul and then made his way over to the statue that the flower had pointed to. With a quick look back to make sure he had the right statue, Sirius gently nudged the soul towards it. Hesitantly it floated over to the statue and then it just stopped right in front of it. They stayed like that for a breath, Sirius waiting to see if something would happen, and the flower grumbling about taking too long. Just when Sirius was about to ask the Flower for more assistance it started to glow a bright yellow, and then it was absorbed into the statue.
Sirius froze, waiting to see if something would happen. Then very slowly, just barely the statue began to move. It started with a slight twitch of its tale, and then to Sirius’ surprise the statue began to develop a healthier yellow glow. It was then that he realized that the statues had all looked kind of grayed, like they had been once painted stone, but the paint had faded. It was probably one of the reasons he and Remus weren’t immediately convinced that these were Frisk’s family. Though they would never tell them that.
The statue, or what was once a statue, started to breathe then, and then it took a deep breath, and finally let out a cheer of pure joy. He spun around then and laughed as he hopped from one foot to the other.
“I’m back in my body, this is great!” Monster Kid cheered, he then turned and met Sirius’ smiling gaze with a beaming smile of his own. “Thank you, mister.”
Sirius turned to the flower then a new feeling welling up within him. He wasn’t sure at the beginning of what Frisk sought out was true, if it was possible, but seeing that kid emerge from his prison and come back smiling and happy and free, he knew it was possible and he was going to do what ever the fuck it took to make it possible.
He turned back to the flower then. “Who’s next?”
