I'm Sorry, Cupcake
Vi sat at Caitlyn’s office desk, head down, papers strewn about, snoring. Caitlyn walked in the room, papers in hand, sounding more energetic than usual, and not seeing that Vi was asleep. “Vi! I think I found something! This law here says…” she looked up to see Vi sleeping.
“Vi!”
Snoring.
“Vi!” Caitlyn yells with frustration.
More snoring.
“Violet!”
Vi jolts awake. “What? Hm? What happened?”
Caitlyn narrows her eyes. “You seriously fell asleep?”
“Um… sorry?” Vi says while awkwardly rubbing the back of her neck.
Caitlyn lets out a dramatic sigh and slams the paper down in front of Vi. “This law here says It's illegal to share intimate images, explicit pictures, recorded videos, or other depictions of someone without their consent.”
Vi nods. “Yeah, I know.”
Caitlyn's eyes narrow further. “And you didn't say anything?”
“I thought it was common sense,” Vi shrugs.
Caitlyn groans and storms out of the room. Vi’s eyes widen and she follows after Caitlyn. “What’s up with you today, Cait?”
“What’s up with me?” Caitlyn scoffs. “What's up with you?”
Vi furrows her eyebrows in confusion. “What- what do you mean?”
Caitlin sighs. “Vi, you have been withholding information, falling asleep, and just not paying attention. It's like you're not even trying.”
Vi’s eyes widen. “I am trying!” She says desperately.
“Not hard enough,” Caitlyn says with a sigh, turning away.
“Cait please-”
“No, Vi. Just stop.”
“Cait, just listen to me! Please…”
Caitlin sighs and turns back around. She crosses her arms and looks at Vi expectantly.
Vi sighs, “I am taking this seriously, Cait, I swear. I just… I’ve been working day and night to ensure you get justice for what that… that bitch did to you and I-... I haven't been getting enough sleep, which isn't an excuse for my own mistakes, but-... that's why I fell asleep… that's why I haven't been trying as hard… I’m just… exhausted. I'm sorry, Cupcake. I didn't mean to upset you.”
Caitlyn’s eyes widen slightly and she releases a bit of tension from her stance. “Day and night?”
Vi nods.
Caitlyn sighs, “Violet, you're working too hard.”
Vi shakes her head, “no, I'm not working hard enough.”
Caitlyn steps closer to Vi and places a hand on her shoulder. “Vi, you need to rest. You're doing more than enough. More than I could ever ask for. Take a break, please.”
Vi sighs and lowers her head. “Fine…”
Caitlyn smiles softly, “good. Now go home, Vi. Get some rest and come back tomorrow. The court date is in three days and I need you at your best, not your worst.”
Vi nods, “okay…”
Caitlyn smiles as she watches Vi walk toward the front door, looking defeated.
Caitlyn smirks, “and did you call me ‘cupcake’?”
Vi turns around and tilts her head, “yeah. I did.”
Caitlyn raises an eyebrow, “why?”
Vi smirks and opens the door. “Cause you're sweet. Like a cupcake.” She walks out and closes the door behind her.
Caitlyn smiles and rolls her eyes before getting back to work on her statement.
