It was a brilliant show. Captivating. The way the light from the stage shone brightly and danced with the twinkle of her eyes. She was one in a million. She was shining like a star. And there she was, looking at what she had accomplished.
It was a brilliant show. An homage to her old town. The same town who saw her dream and gave the pedestal for her first steps towards that same dream. The warmth of the place stayed the same. Familiar faces seen on the crowd albeit time had left its marks on them. They feel the same but also different.
Chasing her dreams was never easy. There were too many things she had to give up. Too many things she had to lose, to leave, so that the burden would be lighter to carry. And there she saw it, the one she gave up that pained her the most. The same comfort from the same smile, the same eyes, looking at her with so much pride, with so much love.
How can she leave her? She often admired the courage of her younger self. To leave the comfort of her embrace when it was all that could save her when she wanted to give up. How can she let go of a love so sure of her? Of a love that will conquer everything for her? She did not know the answer.
One last song before everything ends. Before she go and chase her dreams once again. To see the end of what she fought hard for even if it means leaving her old town and giving up her other dream—a life with her. A life spent with the one who still held her heart even after all these years. The one she gave up to reach the heights she did.
A last song, a last performance, and then the curtains fell. She was backstage. Familiar faces were found. Her old friends she left behind. Smiling proudly at her. However, her gaze lingered towards a direction. She was there, looking at her with the same warm smile. She wanted to go, to reach her, to tell her everything she had accomplished, to vent all her frustrations and pain, to have her embrace her and tell her everything will be okay, that everything was worth it. However, she did not. She allowed her gaze to linger. Then she waved so she waved back at her.
And there she saw it. A ring on her ring finger. Then a woman approached her, carrying a child in her arms. She smiled, this time it was different with how she smiled at her. This one was full of affection, something that even she had never received from her. She kissed the woman on her forehead, carried the child, and looked back at her. She smiled again. The same warm smile but this time it felt different.
Is that what she lost? Is this what could have been? Is this what it means to revisit this old town and seeing the broken dreams she will never be able to accomplish?
