This was it, the culmination of over a year of research and training, Harry was finally about to infiltrate The Very Big Corporation of America.
Months memorizing patrol routes down to the minute had him knowing that they he only moments.
He grabbed the rock from his bag, and weighed it in his hand. It was hard to believe that the fate of his mission came down to this small rock, but he knew that it all came down to this one moment.
Harry tossed the pebble to the left, preparing to go to the right while the guard, Malfoy, investigated the noise.
But Malfoy never went.
He had planned for every contingency... except for this one.
Panicking, he looked around for something else to throw. Upon finding another small rock, he threw it to the left, harder this time.
But still, Malfoy didn't move.
He stood up from his hiding place, another rock in hand, and marched up to the guard.
"Hey!"
Malfoy said nothing.
"Hey!" He threw the rock at the guard's visor, "What's wrong with you? Why didn't you go investigate the noise? Isn't that your whole job?"
Malfoy shrugged, "This is my post."
Mouth hanging, he replied, "But you're supposed to go investigate! That's how this goes! I throw the rock, making a distraction, and you go investigate!"
"Mmmm, no. This is my post. I stand here, and watch, and occasionally escort people off the property. *That's* how this works."
"But that's- but I-," he stammered, unable to come up with a response.
Malfoy looked bored, "So are you going to leave, or am I going to have to call someone in to cover my post while I escort you off the premises?"
"I- uh- I'll- I'll leave. No need to, uh, call in backup. I'm going."
And, completely humiliated, he turned around and left.
