Mermista had been sent to the Crimson Waste by Perfuma and she was not happy about it.
"Ugh! Why are we doing this?" Mermista complained to Huntra who had been delegated as her guide.
"I'm doing it because I don't make it a habit to get on the bad side of the plant princess." Huntra said evenly, her and Perfuma were strangely close which had been odd to Mermista until she had met Perfuma's new girlfriend, Scorpia and then she understood it perfectly.
"Ugh, I suppose, how does Perfuma manage to bend everyone to her will all the time?"
"The girl's like a communal therapist and you princesses have issues. She has so much ammo against each and everyone of you. It's ingenious really." Huntra said with a mix of admiration and fear.
"Don't make me agree with you," Mermista sighed. It wasn't that she didn't like Huntra or even that she disagreed with Permufa she just hated that she was being forced to do work. When would it be enough for her friends, she had already fought a war.
"We are almost here, then you'll be free of me." Huntra gestured to the shape in the distance that resembled a large skull of a massive prehistoric animal.
When Mermista and Huntra had reached central hub of the crimson waste Huntra brushed aside the curtain and Mermista walked in. What had once been a sleazy dangerous bar had entirely changed into a hub of life, markets and stalls lined up and cheer coloured banners hung from the eye sockets of the skull. It was very different from Adora and Glimmer's stories of their first visit. The Crimson Waste had changed drastically in the last few years.
"Okay, I'm here to volunteer or whatever." Mermista rolled her eyes. It was Perfuma's idea. She though that it was a good thing if all the Princess got to experience the daily life of a mixture of different people. It was supposed to both help people and to keep them grounded and make them better leaders.
Mermista understood where Perfuma was coming from but by god it was annoying. She didn't even want to be a ruler, a princess. She just was, and now she had to put in all this extra work so she had to be a good one. Ugh! Annoying!
"Hello Princess, you'll be coming with me." A girl came up to her. She was wearing the typical garb of a Crimson Waste citizen, scraps of fabric fashioned into a kind of serang.
Like Catra and Scorpia she seemed to be half human half animal. This girl was half wolf it seemed, she had fluffy hair and wolf ears and a tail.
"Hi, nice to meet you... I guess?" Mermista tried to remain as nonchalance as usual. But the way the girl's multicoloured eyes trailing up and down her body made Mermista just slightly too warm for even the dessert-like Crimson Waste.
"Likewise, Princess." The girl said before she moved passed her and out of the area. Mermista looked at Huntra confused but she simply shrugged. Mermista sighed and followed the girl out of the tent.
"Where are we going?" Mermista held her hand up to her face to shield her face from the blinding burning sun.
"You'll see, now don't you fall behind before we even start." The unknown wolf girl laughed and darted forward never looking back for Mermista.
"Ugh!" Mermista groan and hurried behind the girl. "Wait up!"
"Nope." The girl ran ahead laughing manically. "Keep up prissy Princess." Mermista rolled her eyes and ran after the girl.
The two continued forward until the girl finally stopped to turn to Mermista. Mermista was out of breath when she finally caught up to her.
"Why do you have to be so fast?"
"Cause I wanted to tease you." The wolf girl laughed again. Her ears twitched when she laughed and it was simultaneously irritating and kinda cute? Was this girl... cute?!
