Luxanna Crownguard, or as she likes to go by Lux, stared at the trainer registry for the nth time. Four years since Powder Lanes and her Pokémon were declared missing. Her Pokédex location in Sinnoh was a dead end, and the call was traced from a Pokèmon Center in Veilstone City when one of her Pokémon, Patrat, was announced deceased from the pokéball records, the law enforcement of Sinnoh said her chances became slim.
“I found something cool, Lux! When I get back, we’ll have our battle and be ten times stronger!” Powder told Lux in a recorded video call that her newest pokèmon, a Gible she named Fishbones because he was called “The Land Shark Pokémon,” which didn’t make sense to the blue-haired trainer, “But sharks on land would just be fishbones!” according to her during the video call.
Lux’s focus was interrupted by a knock at the door. She went to open the door to her Pokémon Center room to see who it was, “Hey, Lux.” Vi, Powder’s older sister. “Oh, Vi, hello.” Lux greeted the pinkette with a kiss on each cheek. “Still nothing?” Vi asked, already knowing the answer. Powder looked up to her big sis. To her, she was unbreakable. Vi always looked like the pressure had been slowly cracking her hard exterior.
Lux was introduced to Vi through Powder’s video calls. The two sisters had reunited in Ionia just after the new season started. Vi’s vibrant pink hair was slicked back at the time, but as time went on, she outgrew it and let her natural red hair return, but she still kept one side shaved.
“Vi’s been busier ever since that battle with Kiramman.” Powder told Lux about it when she visited her in Demacia. “Really?” Lux amused. “Yeh! She used to be all hit moves, crash-bang-sucker punch! Now she’s playin’ the long game with booster moves before an attack! It all started after her battle with Kiramman!” Powder ranted.
Lux was familiar with Caitlyn Kiramman. Their families ran the same social circles of high nobility, a pedigree of Pokèmon Coordinators or Trainers that often rise to the level of Elite Four, Frontier Brain. Caitlyn had decided on the path of trainer that would lead to international law enforcement, but a Pokémon Champion had the freedom to do both.
As for the change in Vi’s tactics, Lux felt the elder Lanes’ pride was chipped from her loss to the Kiramman heir and the traded words after. The battle was recorded in the Global files and watched over five million times. Who knew that the two rivals would become future girlfriends? Powder would be pretending to gag if she only knew her going missing was the catalyst.
“Unfortunately,” Lux sighs sadly, “I’m sorry.”
“Hey, don’t beat yourself up about this. It’s just–” Vi hesitated. Lux nods, “She’ll be twenty soon. How’s Cait?” Lux honestly asked about her friend. “Cupcake’s been doing her own searchin’ when she isn’t called for Champion duties.”
“A Pokémon with Teleport does make it easy to travel. Though there are limits,” Lux points out. The move Teleport was good when a trainer was in a bind, such as being cornered or a natural disaster, but the move can’t have you return where you left off. Such is the life of a trainer on their Pokémon journey.
“At least Caitlyn bides her time with International Police business, unlike a certain champion in Galar.” Lux jibes. Vi snickers, “Cupcake gave Leon a run for his money and knocked him down a peg. Watching his cape get burnt to ash was satisfying, making Caitlyn look hot,” Lux grins. She’s truly happy for Caitlyn, but even she can see under her and Vi’s masks that Powder’s disappearance is heavy, and the invisible river's current prevents them from moving to find any clue.
“I better get home before Cupcake. Gotta get dinner on the stove,” said Vi.
Lux chuckles, “The Red Wolf of Zaun, turned personal chef of the Champion. If only people knew,” Vi smirks, “Making sure it stays that way, I’ll see you at the usual place?”
“Come now, Vi, I’d never miss Cafe Tuesdays with you.” Lux responds, her grin falters, “We’ll find her Vi. I can feel it. I’m so close.” Vi approaches Lux and gives her a big bear hug, “Just don’t burn out, okay? Pow would want you to take care of yourself.” Lux sniffles, “Yeah, while she’s the one that jumps into the chaos she creates. You two must be sisters if you always run head first.”
After Vi left, Lux went back to work. Sendoff Springs was where Powder disappeared, and Sinnoh was considered the place of origin. The connection had to be there with what Powder was searching for.
“Perhaps I should ask Shirona for that help after all.” Lux hummed to herself and glanced at the clock. A quarter till 10, Lux stretched her limbs before heading to her bed; she’ll contact Shirona tomorrow to see if the Champion of Sinnoh has the time to entertain the thought of mythology; there was always truth to the stories. Lux fell asleep in moments, unknown to the glow of red violet eyes watching her in the window’s reflection of her room before vanishing.
