Coops Become Dads Pt. 2

It was a 15 minute ride from the rink to the hospital, but Sirius got them there in 10.

As soon as the car was in park, both men were out of the car, running through the front doors to the check-in desk, “We’re here for Rachel Le Roux.” Remus panted out, his hand reaching out to grab Sirius’s.

The nurse smiled, typing into her computer, “Yes, of course. Ms. Le Roux said to expect you both. She’s down the hall in room 6.” She handed them both visitor passes before pointing them the correct way.

After thanking the nurse, they headed down the hall to the room. Early on in the adoption process, they had sat down with Rachel, discussing everything from the hospital to the name of the baby. Sirius had asked if she would be comfortable with them being in the delivery room, and she insisted on it.

“I’m going to be the one birthing this baby, but they’re going to be yours. I want you to be there for everything.” Rachel had smiled, reaching across the table to squeeze both of their hands.

They were incredibly lucky to have found Rachel, and that she had even liked them in the first place. She was 23 years old and the pregnancy had been a surprise after a one night stand with a friend. Neither of them being ready for children, or wanting one of their own at this point, Rachel decided to put the baby up for adoption.

After frequent dinners and days spent talking, Remus and Sirius both loved her to death, and consistently told her that they wanted to remain friends even after the pregnancy. Rachel reminded Remus of Sirius a bit, which was exciting. She had the same dark hair, just very curly, and nice bone structure. Her eyes were bright blue and lit up when she laughed or smiled. The possibility that the baby could look similar to Sirius made him so excited.

Sirius knocked on the door and a nurse let them in, smiling, “You must be Sirius and Remus, come on in! I’m Kristina, the labor and delivery nurse that’ll be helping out today. We just got Rachel all situated.” She explained as she ushered them in.

It was a nice big room, they had wanted Rachel to be comfortable and be able to move around if need be. She was currently sitting up in the bed, a monitor over her belly as she read a book. As soon as she saw them walk in, her face lit up, “You’re here! And you’re sweaty! But that’s okay, cause I’ll probably be sweaty too.” She teased, reaching out for hugs from them both.

Remus pulled her in for a hug, “Sorry, we came straight from the rink. Didn’t want to miss anything.” He said as he moved back, letting Sirius get in to squeeze her.

She nodded, pulling her hair back into a bun, “Well it won’t be long now. I’ve been having steady contractions every couple minutes, and they just seem to be getting longer.” Rachel rubbed a hand over her stomach as she leaned back onto the bed. She was doing it all naturally, no epidural, so the only things she was hooked up to were the baby monitor as well as her own heart monitor.

“So names?’ Rachel asked, as another contraction began. Sirius reached out, giving her a hand to squeeze as she tried to keep her breathing steady. “I need the distraction, did you guys finally decide?”

Remus brushed her hair back from her face, “Yeah. It only took us 9 months.” He said, looking at Sirius with a smirk.

“It was hard! It’s a hard decision!” Sirius huffed, leaning his face onto the bed with a pout.

Rachel let out a shaky breath as the contraction finished, her head flopping back on to the bed, “Tell me you went with Salem for the girl. That was my favorite.”

Sitting on the edge of the bed, Sirius nodded, “Yeah, Salem Rose.”

“And if it’s a boy?” She asked.

“Asher Pascal.” Remus replied with a smile.

“Oh I love that. I knew you would fit your Dumo in there.” She grinned, squeezing both of their hands.

She had asked about how they had gotten together and of course, they had to tell her of the dinner at Dumo’s and how he helped them get together.

As they chatted, Kristina moved to the foot of the bed, “Alright, Rachel, I’m just going to check and see how it’s going down here. We were pretty close, but now I think it’s almost time to push.” She said, lifting the sheet to Rachel’s knees. Both men quickly moved farther up the bed, closer to her head.

Rachel let out a loud laugh, “You guys are ridiculous.”

“We just don’t want to look up your vagina! That’s good, non? Why does that make us ridiculous?” Sirius exclaimed, his hands flying up dramatically.

Kristina smiled, looking up at the group, “Alright, everyone. Looks like it’s time to go. Are you ready to push?” She asked.

Letting out a shaky breath, Rachel nodded, “Yes. Yes, fuck I’m ready. Let’s do this.” She looked at both of the men, “You’re gonna hold my hands right? Cause I’m pretty sure this is going to hurt.”

Two hands quickly reached out to hold hers, leaning on the bed next to her, “You’ve got this, Rach.” Sirius whispered, squeezing her hand gently.

She began pushing, her face going red as she held onto the boys’ hands, “Oh fuck, this hurts. This hurts a lot.”

“That was really good, Rachel. Keep that up, and we’ll get through this quickly. I can see the head!” Kristina urged, gentle hands waiting to catch.

Remus wiped at her forehead with a cold cloth, pressing a kiss to her forehead, “You’re doing so good, Rach. You’re so fucking strong.” His hand twinged as she pushed again, grip tightening on their hands. With all she was going through for them, she could break his fingers for all he cared. What’s a couple broken bones when she was literally giving them her child?

“One more big push!” Kristina encouraged as she reached down, the sheet obscuring their view.

Rachel let out a loud yell before they heard it. A baby’s cries. Their baby.

Sirius hugged Rachel, tears running steadily down his cheeks, “You did it. I’m so fucking proud of you. Merci beaucoup, mon cher..” He murmured softly.

Kristina wiped the baby gently, cleaning them up before looking at the three, “It’s a boy.” She said with a smile, settling him on Rachel’s chest. “Who wants to cut the cord?” She asked, looking between the two men as she clamped it.

“I’ll do it.” Remus murmured, trying to tear his eyes from the small scrunchy face resting on Rachel’s chest. He took the scissors before gently cutting it, separating the baby from Rachel’s body.

Kristina got to work cleaning Rachel up before reaching for the baby, “Let me get him all cleaned up and weighed, then you can have him back, alright?”

Letting out a soft whine as he was moved, Asher was then carried to the other side of the room. Remus took this time to hug Rachel, his face pressed to her shoulder as she squeezed them both close, “We can never thank you enough, Rach. Fuck, there aren’t even words.”

She sniffled, “I’m so glad I chose you two. I know that he’s going to grow up so loved, and that’s all I could ever ask for.”

“Alright, all cleaned up and ready for some cuddles, I’m sure.” Kristina greeted, holding a small swaddled bundle. Sirius couldn’t help the quiet sob that escaped his lips as he saw Remus being handed the baby. Their baby. Asher.

Remus leaned back on the bed, gently cradling Asher in his arms, “Oh, look at you, sweet boy.” He whispered, gently tracing over his chubby cheeks. Sirius pulled out his phone, sneaking a picture of Remus. He had such a look of awe on his face, it was perfect.

“Full head of curls on him, look at that!” Rachel said with a soft smile.

And she was right. He had Rachel’s dark curls, and his little face. Small pink lips with a perfect little cupid bow, and cute little chubby cheeks.

Remus pressed a soft kiss to his forehead, sniffling as the tears welled up in his eyes, “He’s so perfect.” He couldn’t help the laugh that escaped his lips, even though it was a bit choked. It didn’t seem real. He was holding his son.

Sirius moved to stand next to them, wrapping an arm around Remus, “Bonjour mon petit. Je suis ton papa.” He cooed just as a small hand reached out, gripping his finger.

A surprised gasp fell from his lips before he laughed, “You’re so strong, mon fils. Mon fils.”

This was their son. Their little boy. Sirius had only just met Asher, but he knew that he would do anything to make sure that small baby was happy and healthy. And as he looked at Remus, he knew that the feeling was mutual.
