Seizure in Transfiguration class
Madam Pomfrey had found no obvious reason for the seizure and had therefor, after talking to another healer, decided to leave the matter alone as long as it did not happen again. So, almost everything went back to normal. Y/N had not felt the same exhaustion or uneasiness for months.
Severus had kept an extra eye on her during his classes. Whenever she made a sudden movement, his eyes would dart in her direction. He tried to cover it up by scolding the students nearby, but Y/N saw through his actions. Ever since Madam Pomfrey told her of him staying with her, she couldn’t help but see a bit past his cold expressions.
Y/N had woken up earlier than normal, feeling awful once more. Slowly, anxiety sneaked its way into her mind. Oh no, it’s going to happen again, she thought. Being her usual stubborn self, she pushed away her worries and got ready for the morning classes, skipping breakfast due to her upset stomach.
The first class was Potion and she powered through the first lesson without much discomfort, but sometime during the last half an hour her body screamed for something she did not know.
“Daydreaming again are we, Miss Y/N?” Severus asked in a mocking tone as he obviously caught her dozing off in her thoughts. She quickly straightened her back and looked at her teacher.
“Sorry, Professor. I’m just a bit tired today,” she answered truthfully. A concerned expression covered his face but was gone in seconds. At first Y/N thought she had imagined it but when he walked away without scolding her, she was lost for words. Severus tried his best to prevent the situation from repeating itself, so whenever she looked extra tired, he would avoid making it worse. Luckily for him no one, but Y/N, had caught onto it, yet.
The rest of the lesson went by in a blur and so did the walk to Transfiguration class.
“Do sit down, Miss Y/N. Class has already started,” said McGonagall, who was staring at her from behind the teacher’s desk. Y/N snapped out of her daze only to see everyone looking at her. She had apparently stopped in the middle of the room, quickly she glanced around for an empty seat. There was one in the back of the classroom, without apologizing to her professor, she sat down. Her cheeks were slightly tinted and warm from embarrassment.
Professor McGonagall continued as usual talking about the new topic; colour changing charms. Y/N tried her best to follow the lesson as it was honestly quite interesting, but as soon as the practical part of the lesson started things went wrong.
The students called the incantation, Colovaria, over and over, the bowls on the desks changed colours in random patters. Y/N felt off, the colours bounced off the objects and flew around the room. Her own body felt as if it was floating at the same time as it was being dragged under water, all sounds turned into buzzing. Her vision played tricks on her, and she could no longer trust it.
“Are you alright, Miss Y/N?” asked Professor McGonagall as she noticed the blank look on her students face. No reaction. She took a few steps closer and eyed the student with a confused look on her face.
“Miss Y/N?” she repeated her name a few times. Seeing as she still got no reaction out of her, she got worried. All the teachers had heard of her seizure a few months back. A light twitch started in Y/N’s hands and along one side of her face.
“Mr. Anderson, would you be so kind to get Madam Pomfrey and Professor Snape? Tell them it’s about Miss Y/N and they will understand - hurry along,” Minerva commanded more than asked. The student who had been called shivered at the mention of the Potion Master, but quickly bounced out of his seat and bolded out of the room.
With nonverbal magic, Minerva placed the now seizing student on the floor. A quick cast of the cushioning charm, Molliare, and her head was protected from crashing onto the ground whenever her body shook with violent convulsions.
“Right, everybody out!” McGonagall called as she heard the gasps and whispers from the rest of the class. Everyone hurried out of the door, no one wanted to be on the bad side of the Head of Gryffindor.
Y/N’s body twisted and turned in odd angles, her mouth letting small grunts of pain out. Her eyes had rolled into her head, only leaving the white part visible. Her hands cramped, hitting the floor with force enough to leave bruises. Minerva pushed the nearby tables and chairs out of the way, trying her best to keep her student safe. She hated seeing her suffer, she hated seeing anyone in pain.
“What happened?” demanded Snape as he jogged into the almost empty classroom. Seconds after came Madam Pomfrey with a small bag in her hands.
“She’s seizing,” was all McGonagall could say before she was pushed out of the way by Severus. He looked the student over with a hawk-like eye, noticing the already forming bruises on her arms and the saliva running down her cheek.
“I had no idea,” Severus said in a sarcastic tone before returning to take care of Y/N. Her convulsion had slowed down by the help of a potion Poppy had given her. Her body relaxed just before the five minute mark, leaving the occasional jolt to run through her body. Severus gently moved her onto her side so she could breathe easier and minimise the chance of choking.
All three adults looked at the ill student for a while, all caught in their own thoughts. Poppy was running over possible conditions and the idea of consulting someone more qualified. Severus was going over ingredients and potions that could help with the seizures while Minerva was trying her best not to get in the way. Her mind was running a marathon, but no thoughts was helpful in the situation.
A small groan caught their attention. All six eyes darted onto the now awakening girl.
“Y/N? It’s Professor Snape. I’m here with Madam Pomfrey and Professor McGonagall. You had another seizure,” Severus informed her in the same uncharacteristic sweet tone as he had used last time. Poppy and Minerva shared a look, both noticing the change in behavior in their colleague.
With a helping hand, Y/N sat up, leaning against the chest of Severus. He held her close, but not holding onto her. If she wanted to move, she could, but she stayed put. Leaning closer as exhaustion took over her body.
“I’m fine… Snape,” she mumbled before falling asleep. A small smile crept onto his lips. Without thinking twice, he hauled her into his arms, bridal style, and walked out of the door. Left behind was two amused looking ladies, who couldn’t help but chuckle at the sight.
Poppy promised to update Minerva on the condition of the student before hurrying after Severus and Y/N. McGonagall went back to the teacher’s desk, fiddling with a few pages of parchment. How wonderful it’s going to be answering questions later on, she thought to herself.
At the Hospital Wing, Y/N was placed on one of the empty beds to rest. Severus once again sat down next to her, book in hand and class of water ready for her once she woke up.
Poppy ran a few diagnostic charms. Gathering the results, she put them in an envelope along with a handwritten note asking for help from one of her old friends, who happened to be a healer at St. Mungo’s Hospital. She informed Snape of her leaving for the Owlery, he looked up, nodded and went back to his book.
Once Madam Pomfrey returned, she smiled as neither Severus or Y/N had moved an inch. She went on with her usual routine and duties, leaving the two to rest.
