The woman continued her staring. So Light stared back as well.
How to ask for food? How do babies ask for food? How did Sayu ask for food? He can't just open his mouth and say food! That would waste one of his five words limit to a word which can be mimed perfectly well by other children around his approximate age.
Light gazed back steadily into green eyes as he pondered. And then simply decided to raise his arms again, mouth open and tongue licking his lips.
The woman seems to have gotten the message. She hesitated for a while before picking up the basket and taking him further inside the house. Light looked around, or rather, tried to. She was walking too fast and Light was afraid he would be dropped if he moved around too much.
