Note
No, this isn't a new chapter, unfortunately. I re-read the first and I thought that, well, I could do better... So, this is a rewrite of the first chapter.

 – Kyouya, five years old –

Kyouya is lost. That's said, it is acceptable since he's a carnivore. He has nothing to worry about.

While it's not his usual territory and those particular herbivores speak English, it really means nothing. He doesn't need to speak their tongue - that would imply that he intended to talk with them.

Even a young carnivore like Kyouya can take care of himself. He adjusts the bunny-shaped bag and stoically looks around for his mother and the baby carnivore. There is a slight possibility that they are still within Kyouya's range of sight, and if so, this whole thing can be put to rest.

It would matter little if they are not since Kyouya's bag contains the two things he actually needs to thrive in this herbivores' infested territory. His beloved wooden weapons, his tonfas. And his uncle's wallet. The stupid baby deserved to suffer.

Kyouya's grey eyes wander from one side to the other. There are so many loud herbivores. It's deafening. It also smells terrible - unlike Namimori. There's no order, no discipline – from where Kyouya stands, he sees at least one rule getting broken by a speeding car.

They should be bitten to death.

Kyouya cannot see his mother and his sorry excuse for an uncle amidst the chaos, yet he is sure that his mother should be fine as long as she's near the baby carnivore. As much as he despises Fon, Kyouya knows he'll kill anyone who dares to touch a hair on his mother's head.

Mother should be smart enough not to stray from the baby carnivore's side, so Fon will be in real trouble if Kyouya finds him separated from her.

In the meantime, Kyouya can search for them-

A loud rumble interrupted his thoughts and reminded him of a more pressing problem. He will search later. Securing food should come first, Kyouya decides. Maybe the rest of the pack will be doing the same.

Kyouya nods to himself. A restaurant is a great hunting place if you want to hunt food instead of troublemakers prey. Plus, finding a restaurant should be a lot easier than finding Kyouya's family.

As he walks in search of a good restaurant, Kyouya hears an unmistakable sound – a cry of pain. He stops, hands softly patting the bag's straps on his shoulders as another sound joins in – Someone is laughing.

Kyouya frowns. Mother asked him not to interfere with the territory disputes outside of Namimori, but since he's a natural carnivore, there is no way he's going to let law-breaking menaces walk free while he's in hearing distance (or any distance, frankly speaking).

The sounds are coming from the park, where three troublemakers are standing in front of a smaller, hurt herbivore. Kyouya doesn't need to move closer to see that the little one is hurt - he can smell blood in the air, and none of the big ones' bleeding, which only makes Kyouya all the more eager to make them.

The little one tries to run away, but one of the three steps in and the little animal lets out a surprised cry before falling face-first into the ground. Kyouya hears its' cries of pain and decides he doesn't like seeing such a cute herbivore getting hurt like that.

Clearly, mother would forgive Kyouya for stepping in and saving a little animal, right? He'll even take responsibility and care for it. He drops his bag and takes out both of his tonfas. The fake carnivores have not noticed him just yet, which in Kyouya's mind cements the fact that they are really, truly fakes.

Moving closer, Kyouya decides to attack the ring-leader for having such a smug, ugly expression on his face. His voice is grating on the nerves, and the way the oversized pig shakes his fist while grinning evilly at the fallen boy ticks Kyouya the wrong way.

"For hurting little animals, I'll bite you to death."

All four turn around and freeze. Kyouya runs at the big one, and with an uppercut, he slams his tonfa into the right side of the pig's face, making it squill and cry. It's too loud, so, Kyouya hits it again just for that.

The other fakes look between themselves, and Kyouya fears that they might try to run away. They don't, too stupid to feel real fear in the presence of a real carnivore.

He picks the pig by the hair and tosses him at the other two with all his force. Kyouya doesn't give them more than a second to think of attacking him. To a true carnivore, it's plenty of time anyways.

The little twig dodges to the right in a surprising show of survival instincts, but his friend isn't that agile, and the flying pig hits him straight in the ribs. Kyouya shifts his tonfas before he's up in the little twig's face, hitting him in the stomach. The fake carnivore makes a painfilled sound as he curls into himself and drops to the ground.

Defeated already?

Kyouya snorts in disdain. Pathetic.

He kicks the pig as he's trying to get up one more time, just because.

The third fake carnivore chatters away, but Kyouya has no idea what he says. He sounds scared, so Kyouya supposed he might be begging for his life, but at the same time, fake carnivores are known for being dumb as shoes, so for all he knows, the fake carnivore could be threatening Kyouya instead.

That wouldn't do. Kyouya has to teach the herbivore to show some respect – so Kyouya beats him up until he's nothing more than one colossal bruise, just to be safe. He knows that the lesson was understood when the herbivore lets out a defeated whizz.

Kyouya fixes his hair to get a better look at the victim. The little thing looks terrified – huge green eyes are looking at him, while the little thing's body is shaking, and small quiet whimpers escape from its mouth.

Can something this small and cute be considered the same as those – Kyouya gave the three fakes a semi disgusted stare – things. No. Obviously, not.

Kyouya gently picks the little thing up until it can stand on its own, even if an average seven years old would never be able to pick up another seven years old child. The little thing squeaks in fright, and Kyouya's heart practically melts.

"Hush, little animal," he makes sure to speak softly since everyone knows that you need to be soft with small little animals, be they human or otherwise... his mother told him so.

The three fakes don't dare to follow him, and Kyouya carries the little animal with him on his quest of finding a good restaurant. The little animal is still shaking, but it looks less scared now.

Kyouya wants to pat it on the head, but he uses both his hands to hold the little guy, so he'll have to wait.

They finally find a place not far from there, and Kyouya puts the kid back on the ground. The moment he does, the boy tries to run away, but Kyouya anticipates this, so he's ready. He grabs the oversized clothes like a leash and points at the shop. Thankfully, the little animal stops trying to run after that.

They enter the establishment, and Kyouya directs them to the nearest empty table. He manipulates the little animal so that the kid will sit next to the window. Kyouya sits at the next seat, blocking the only escape route.

A herbivore comes and brings the two of them menus. Kyouya thanks her, even if he's sure she doesn't understand a word he's saying.

The little animal looks at Kyouya and says something. Unfortunately, Kyouya has no idea what. Instead of answering, he pats him on the head. He points at the menu, hoping that the kid will understand what he wants. He nods at him and takes the menu with both hands. Looking at the menu, the kid squints its eyes at the writing. Short-sighted?

Kyouya doesn't bother sighing. He pats the little animal again to show it's okay. He takes the menu back and looks at it himself, and to his relief, there are pictures.

A picture of a steak pops out to his eyes, and his stomach growls in anticipation. This place is perfect.

The herbivore is still waiting for them to order, so Kyouya shows her the picture, she looks at him funny, and Kyouya knows why – she's not sure if he can pay for the prey. Kyouya understands, so he takes out his uncle's wallet and shows her that he does have money.

The little animal says something, and the herbivore nods in understanding, then she writes something in her notebook, and off she goes.

The kid points at Kyouya's wallet, right at the picture of an older looking Kyouya's look-alike – his uncle Fon. This picture was taken from before he turned into a baby carnivore, so he looks a lot older than he is right now.

Still, telling the little animal about the baby carnivore should be fine since Kyouya had decided to keep him – no way he was giving the boy back to its' herbivore parents. They hadn't been bothered to be there to protect the kid from other herbivores.

Kyouya nods to himself, "That's Fon," he points at the picture.

The little animal looked happy. "Fon?" he repeats, then says something more. Kyouya didn't understand.

"Harry," the boy pointed at itself.

Kyouya blinked. When the kid pointed at himself again and repeated the name, Kyouya was sure. That was the little animal's name.

"Harry?" Kyouya repeated the name slowly. The name sounded foreign on his tongue.

The little animal nodded happily and then pointed at Kyouya as if asking him to share his name in return.

"Hibari Kyouya," he pointed at himself and made sure to speak slowly. He wanted the baby animal to be able to say his name.

The kid looked determined to repeat his name, "Habari…?" it was an adorable attempt, but wrong. Kyouya repeated his name, making sure to highlight the part the little animal was having trouble with, "Hi-bari".

It took several tries, but when the little animal finally said his name right, Kyouya was proud. By then, the female herbivore came back with their orders, and Kyouya was pleasantly surprised to find out that the taste was no worse than his mother's cooking.

The little-… Harry looked like he enjoyed eating, probably because his herbivore parents were bad and didn't bother feeding him. Poor thing. That's just another reason why Kyouya should take care of him instead.

Kyouya cut off the best part of his steak and placed it on Harry's plate, acting as an excellent caregiver to show Harry his intent. The baby animal looked surprised at the gesture, only proving to Kyouya that he had made the right choice.

They've both eaten their fill, and soon Harry was yawning, looking tired after such a good and filling meal – Kyouya agreed. It was getting close to his nap time. He looked at the little animal. Harry was standing up by himself, so he probably felt better. Could he walk?

Taking the baby carnivore's credit card out of the wallet, Kyouya quickly paid for their meal. He still had to find a place for him and the baby animal to sleep.

Kyouya took four steps back, and like a little chick, Harry trotted after him. Nodding in satisfaction, Kyouya led them out of the restaurant back to the park.

The fake carnivores were gone by now, probably run away to lick their wounds, Kyouya thought smugly to himself.

The kid looked around as if anticipating an attack, so Kyouya decided to hold hands to calm him, much to the kid's surprise. He looked so startled that Kyouya was sure that it was the first time anyone had the courtesy to offer Harry some basic human decency.

It doesn't matter. The little animal was Kyouya's now, and there will be a lot of firsts.
