What the fu–?!
'God, I hate having homework.' Izuku thought as she trudged through the gates of her school, her shoulders weighed down by two bags. One was stuffed with textbooks and binders, while the other carried her soccer gear.
She let out a deep sigh. An attack this morning, apparently a new hero was introduced; Mt.lady was her name. She 'helped' Kamnio Woods with a robber. It was her #13th note book, she was only about mid way through it. At least she had something to do when she got home.
As she walked down the street, adjusting her earbuds and the heavy beat of the music in her ears as it drowned out her frustration. The sky hung low and gray, hinting at rain, and she couldn't help but feel even more irritated knowing soccer practice had been canceled because of the weather.
As she reached up to pull her dark green hair into a bun, securing it loosely, she glanced around, watching the damp street pass by in a blur.
Just beneath an overpass, though, something caught her eye, a faint flash of green. At first, she thought it was just a trick of the streetlights, so she ignored it.
As she drew closer she saw it again. Her heart skipped a beat as she squinted through the dim light, it was...slime? Panic exploded in her chest as the sludge lunged toward her. Instinct overtook thought, and she hurled her bags to the ground before bolting. Her feet pounded against the pavement, splashing through shallow puddles, but the creature was faster. Its tendrils wrapped around her legs, dragging her down. She hit the ground hard, the impact rattling through her bones.
She couldn't breathe. Why couldn't she breathe? She clawed desperately at the oozing mass constricting her throat, her nails tearing into her own skin in her frantic struggle for air. The world blurred, her vision darkening at the edges.
"I AM HERE!" The booming voice shattered her fading consciousness, followed by a deafening slam. The pressure around her neck disappeared, replaced by the sharp, painful rush of air into her lungs. She doubled over, coughing violently, her hands braced against the cold cement. she greedily inhaled oxygen.
Getting up and walking towards them. When she turned she saw her notebook open in her face. 'ALL MIGHT' signed in bold ink. Eyes wide she grabbed it seeing the man himself. One of her idols was infront of her.
"Thank you!" she said loudly while bowing a few times. He only laughed a bit before coughing lowly.
"I must be going now," he said. He was leaving. But she had questions she wanted to ask. She needed to know. what's stopping her from getting them?
nothing.
…
Listen. She doesn't know how she got in the air. Or why she thought this was a good idea but she was able to ask All Might her question once they landed on a building.
She took a deep shaky breath. 'c'mon Izuku. it's not that hard.' she opened her mouth to speak but before she could speak she heard hacking.
Looking up she saw a very fragile looking man. He looked sickly. But weirdly like All might. She crouched down to her backpack, grabbing some wipes. She took a step forward, holding them out to him. He looked up at her in surprise. Most people would scream or ask questions. But when he looked at her all he saw was concern.
"Are you alright?" her voice was firmer than earlier. His sunken eyes regarded her with something close to surprise. She didn't know how familiar she looked to him right now. He had been in a situation like this before. with his mentor. Oh right, her question.
"All Might..." she whispered, her voice barely audible. "Can...can someone without a Quirk become a hero...,"
"....like you?"
The words hung in the air, fragile and desperate.
"To become a hero without a quirk is not logical. I'm sorry."
Izuku was regretting giving him that wipe. They were her favorite wipes too. Like hello? But she knew he was probably right. And that made it hurt more. Her eyes welled with tears. She bit her lip to try and calm down. She nodded. Not looking at him. Toshinori saw himself at that moment. His younger self. The part of him that he buried. She sniffled and roughly wiped her tears away. Trying to control her breathing. He got up silently and began walking to the door.
"I must get going..." he said, poofing back to his other form. He glanced at her still standing there. He jumped onto the next building and the next until he was gone.
Did that fucker really leave her up here?
as she stared at the spot he stood in, Her phone buzzed in her pocket. It was her mom. She read the text and let out a small watery giggle.
'I'm making pizza tonight hun! Let's hope I don't burn it this time :( LOOK I USED THE EMOJI THING RIGHT <3 See you when you get home! Love you 3000!'
After profusely banging on the door and apologizing frantically to the man who answered. Izuku began to walk back home. Her steps sluggish, Not logical. His words repeated in her mind like a cruel mantra, echoing as she walked. But a commotion ahead of her. Her brows furrowed. Her steps quickened as she neared the crowd.
'Was the villain attack still going?'
she moved closer pushing people a bit to be able to see. All she saw was the slime monster from earlier, she winced to herself knowing she had probably made All Might drop it. She wondered how long the person had been trapped.
Why weren't the heroes doing anything to help.
Then she saw ash blonde hair. And her heart stopped."Kacchan?" she whispered. Her eyes wide, pupils dilated. red met green.
Merry Christmas.
She didn't know why her legs were pumping harshly against the pavement. She didn't care. All she knew was he was in danger. His eyes held fear. He needed help.
Her body moved on its own.
She leapt forward over the cones and heroes reaching out to grab her. Her focus was solely on the red eyes locked on her green ones. Taking her backpack and aiming for the sludge things eyes she flung it full force at the sludges eyes. before launching herself into the mess of oozing green slime, reaching up to grab what she hoped was its other eye.
it was bulbous and squishy under her fingers, and she felt a shiver of revulsion creep up her spine. Ignoring it, she squeezed hard, feeling the creature writhing and screeching in response. Ignoring how the slime began to curl around her.
She pulled out of it as fast as she could moving to the blonde while it was momentarily blinded from her actions. Her ears barely registered the creature's scream, the heroes shouting. The sound muffled, her focus on her target: the ash blonde-haired boy, whose eyes were wide laced with confusion and frustration. And she could see the underlying fear.
"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?!" he yelled at her as she dug her hands into the slime. She grit her teeth, trying to find his arms trying to get a good grip. She pushed her legs down against the pavement and began to pull. Getting more desperate seeing the sludge man was pretty much recovered.
"I DON"T KNOW! MY BODY MOVED ON ITS OWN."She yelled back pulling with her body weight. her eyes held years as she looked at him head on for the first time in years.
"I COULDN'T JUST LEAVE YOU TO DIE KNOWING I COULD DO SOMETHING!" Then something happened that allowed her to pull them out completely from the now loosened slime.
They tumbled to the ground, the blonde gasping for air, the rise and fall of his chest reassuring her that he was alive. She twisted her position so she was covering him as best she could as she felt immense winds pushing her against the pavement as they rolled.
Finally, she let go, stumbling backward onto her back. Panting heavily, she was covered in scuff, bruises and scratches. Her arms trembled, a dull ache settling into her muscles. 'Damn...' She thought they were red from how hard she was pulling. Her shoulder felt sore too.'I think I pulled something.' She took a shaky breath, moving her gaze to the boy beside her.
Who was just staring at her. She was quick to push herself up and offer him a hand.
"You ok?" she said softly, her hand stretched out in front of him as he stared up at her. He smacked her hand away grumbling to himself as press and heroes began to surround them. it only really hit her when she saw her phone buzzing on the cement with cracks on the screen that she was on TV. That this was being broadcasted. especially when she looked up and stared dead into a camera
Oh her mom was gonna kill her.
...
The sun was setting now. She had called her mother after escaping the press and heroes. She wanted to talk to Kacchan but he was being praised by the heroes and press. Go figure. She kicked a pebble. She also still had dry blood on her, she didn't want to inconvenience the medics with tiny cuts she'd be fine. She heard rapid footsteps behind her turning her head a bit, she saw Kacchan. He had some bandages on his face.
He stared at her.
"I don't owe you anything." he said to her roughly. Before he turned and walked away.
She stared at his retreating figure. Tilting her head a bit. Before looking around.
'Was that deadass all he had to say. Not even a thank you? guess I'll just let you die next time then.'
she would never.
she shook her head before turning back around, only for All might to jump out from thin fucking air. "I AM–cough HCK–" he poofed into his small form. She had a wipe in her hand for him to wipe away the blood. She waited for him to compose himself. Wondering if he too was gonna scold her. But she didn't really care. She did more than any other hero there. And that was enough to satisfy her.
"I owe you an apology," he said, her eyes widened. But stayed quiet seeing where he was going with this.
"What you did was very stupid, and you could have been killed." she looked down at her red shoes shoes. She played with her fingers a bit.
"But...you did something no other hero did...you tried. You moved when no one else would." he said looking at her steadily. He gave her a gentle smile.
"I think I was wrong about what I said earlier...I don't think you could be a hero, without the proper training." her eyes widened, filling steadily with tears. Her lip wobbled as she dropped her face piece onto the ground. the metal clanging on the cement. her hands came up to cover her mouth as she fell to the floor, her vision getting blurry as tears begin to flow.
"You young lady can be a hero."
...
"And I have chosen you to be my successor."
'What the fuck?'
