A new start?
“--And what did you say you were good at again?” Inquired the woman in front of me, looking down at a paper of some sorts (presumably my information). The woman flipped through the pages of the clipboard, eyeing me up and down and she kept looking down at the paper.
“Well, I work with computer programming and such. Like coding and whatever.” I answered, tapping my foot as I stuffed my hands into my pockets.
“Great, you’ll be working with the same projects as me then!” The woman checked something down onto the paper and held the clipboard under her arm, “Here, I’ll show you to the war room.”
“... the .. war room?” I muttered under my breath as I followed shortly behind her.
After the sudden news of the both previous CEOs of Cognito Inc being sent to shadow prison (seemed harsh), I thought it would be better for me to work in a different department. So there I was, in front of the new CEO of Cognito who was holding my information, Reagan Ridley.
“The war room is basically my meeting room with my coworkers.” She explained, looking over her shoulder, chuckling. She opened the double doors to reveal a large triangular shaped desk with 5 people evenly sitting up at it, along with a … robot in a glass cage in the back and a mushroom?..
“Gang, this is our new coworker…. Mary!” She looked up from the paper and up to the group around the desk in front of us. Everyone was silent for a second, a taller man with brownish hair stood up and walked over to me and Reagan, a big smile on his face. “So nice to be working with you, friend!” He held out his hand for me to shake. I awkwardly smiled back at him as I looked at his hand for a few seconds before shaking it. “Haha so nice to be working with you too … uh…?”
“Brett.” He finished my sentence. “Right…. Brett.” A woman with hoop earrings walked up to me, crossing her arms, “Don’t think I've ever seen you around here before?” She asked, looking me up and down. Feeling self conscious, I shrugged, “I worked in a different department around here … I don’t really think I've seen any of you before … besides Reagan.” I glanced over at all the other people in the room. “Here, I'll introduce you to everyone here,” Reagan started, placing her hand on my shoulder and pushing me closer to the table, pointing at the individuals.
“This is Gigi,” she gestured to the woman with hoop earrings, “She's the head of the media manipulation.”
“Nice to meet you honey.” Gigi said with a smile.
“That over there is Andre, our biochemist. That's Glenn, in charge of our company's arsenal. That mushroom over there is Myc.”
“.... What the fuck?” I muttered, staring at the Mushroom for a second before it started speaking, “Fuck are you staring at four-eyes?” Myc snarked. “Original ...” I grumbled quietly to myself while Reagan told him to shut the fuck up. Cool, okay. What a unique group.
“Who’s that …. Robot… over there?” I pointed at the robot in a glass cage with wheels. Looked hilarious to me. The humanoid looked at me with a slight grimace, like he was used to this but he still hated it. “Oh, that’s Alpha Beta. He’s the robot duplicate of the president but after he went rogue on us we’ve kept him in that cage.” Reagan explained, leaving me dumbfounded.
“..... Oh. Wow.” I nodded my head slowly, “Alright cool, anyways uhm, where do I sit?” I asked. Brett pulled over a chair for me to squeeze in near him and Reagan. Awkwardly shuffling with all my stuff over to my new spot I sat down and got over with the meeting.
As we all started to move out of the war room after the meeting was over. I walked through the building to my office which was pretty far due to my sudden move to a different part of the building. I’ll probably request Reagan if I could move my office closer to my new place in the building. Looking down at my phone I randomly got a text message from my boss.
“Come down to my office rq, need some help with a project”
“I don’t know where your office is though?”
“Go in the left direction starting at the war room, my office is pretty big, you’ll be able to see it.”
“Okay, omw”
I turned off my phone and shoved it in my pocket while groaning. I was already pretty far away from the war room but oh well, doesn’t matter. It’s my job. As I finally arrived at Reagan’s office, the doors automatically opened themselves and I saw Reagan hunched over at her desk looking over some code on a computer. I cleared my throat to indicate I arrived and she jumped slightly, “Oh it’s you.” She spoke, dusting herself off as she stood up, “Alright, well, I’ve been working on this project and, to save me time, I wanted to know if you could help with some simple coding.” She glanced over at me, handing me a folder with all the information. “... Right, okay. Do you need any of this by a specific time?” I asked, reading all the information and instructions. “In two weeks, if you can.”
“Yeah, this shouldn't be too hard.” I nodded my head and Reagan smiled, “Great! Alright then, well I'll leave you to that.” She replied, basically shooing me out, “I'll be on my way in a bit, see you tomorrow, Mary.”
“Wait- question.” I stammered but before I could continue, the doors of her office automatically slammed shut. “.... Great.” Grumbling, I gripped onto the papers as I made my way to my office. After a couple minutes of walking, I made it to my office tossing my things to the side as I looked over the blueprints and code instructions on Reagan's project. After one, two, skip a few, 7 hours of working, I shoved everything aside, slamming my head down onto the desk to play dead for the next 4 hours I had available to sleep.
