kim junhee ponders on the moment a vampire was nice to her
Note
hi this is for my friend. so. yeah

Society is difficult here. It’s like it was all a sick twisted joke. Vampires are somehow meant to survive in the same world as humans. But how can vampires live in harmony when their own kind feeds off human blood? I never understood it. Humans were weak people with weak ideologies. With there being no schools, no food, or anything for them but a dumb forest. Shouldn’t vampires be the one hunting for their own survival?

Gullible and dumb, like I was. If I was a vampire, maybe I’d have enough intellect to not invest all my money in a stupid scam. I never thought vampires were good people after that, at all. They seemed like the type of people who would eat me alive, even if they knew what kinda situation I was in. No money with an unborn baby. At least not until that day,

“Hey, I’ll check over there! Pretty sure I saw something at least.” I heard a woman’s voice. Of course from the context of it, I thought I was doomed. Out in the forest, hunting for food at night… my death was gonna be my own fault. I had no qualms with dying. Either way, I was stuck in hell whether I was living or dying.

I tried to hide behind a tree, but she was way faster than I was, pinning me down. I got a clearer look at her then. Short… black or brown hair? It was hard to tell under the lightning. She had a nose and lip piercing on her as well, with beautiful black eyes. I really never thought about how messy I looked compared to others until I saw this woman.

“Wow… you’re prettier than most of the people I caught, I’ll give your fragile ego that.” She said, looking down at me.

“Really? I think you’re prettier.” I replied to her.

“Of course I’d be prettier. People like you can’t find any hair brushes or makeup in the forest. Gosh, can’t you take compliments…?” She scoffed and rolled her eyes

“I don’t like makeup. I prefer it naturally.”

“Is that the words you’re gonna have carved on your tombstone? That your family’s gonna fucking read? Come on, say something worthwhile then pining over my looks. I give my victims the right to make a few worthwhile statements.”

“I have no family. They got hunted by your kind. And you’re gonna kill the only family I’ll ever get to have.”

“The fuck is that meant to…–” She looked down at me, noticing what I was talking about. Just then, she shoved me off her and pointed straight. “The fuck are you doing in a forest then? Get out of here.”

“I thought you were gonna eat me…?”

“Tsk… they’ll be here soon enough. Just go without asking dumb questions! Or do you wanna die a miserable death?”

So many questions were running through my head, but I chose to run. I ran and hid behind a bush, trying to see why or what kinda person she was. I couldn’t hear anything, and I don’t wanna describe it to forget it, but the last thing I could remember was her dead body with two other guys standing over it laughing.

She didn’t know me. I didn’t know her. And she died because of me. Because she sympathized with me. Could vampires really be that kind? She was kind enough to let me go. I wonder, if I was a human, would she and I be friends?

It doesn’t matter. She’s dead. An afterthought. But… she was kind. She had a heart for the vulnerable. She’s been in my thoughts anytime I think of vampires. Maybe, in another world…
