Note
After almost a year writing this story I finally am posting it. And the funny thing is that i had to rewrite it twice and in the end I lost everything cause my old computer died. I decided that I should live everyday like is the last, so I'm finally posting it. I think my favorite thing about this story is that it's something that I wrote to myself and decided to share with everyone. I'm posting the prologue and the first chapter today and I'll try to update every two weeks, but I'm not sure if I'll be able due to personal stuffs, but I'll definitely update at least once a month.Anyway, I hope you all like it, and english is not my first language, please let me know if you find any mistakes and I don't have a beta? I never had one so I don't know how this work, so if anyone wants to apply lol. Any feedback is welcome, don't feel shy to leave a comment if you want to (I'm a shy person so I usually get shy about leaving comments on my favorite fics)

The Guardian of the Shadows

A loud gasp could be heard in the small room, Harry could feel his whole body burning, like someone was throwing fire at him, everything hurt. His thin lips were dry and he could feel pain even on his tooth.

His nails were digging on his calloused hands from quidditch, a painful moan filled the air as his back felt as if someone was stabbing him. The room was starting to get dark, his eyes becoming unfocused, until he finally passed out.

Confused green eyes opened, his body no longer hurted but at the same time he didn’t feel like he was on his own body, it felt like he was simply floating. Everything around him was a deep green tone, the trees were so high that he couldn’t see the sky and just a little bit of light could be seen coming between the little spaces between them.

Next to a big tree there was someone, when they turned around Harry could see deep purple eyes behind curly, dark, bangs, looking at him, full with longing, which made himself tremble. He never had seen someone look at him like this, even in dreams like these.

“Hello Harry.” A deep, almost whispered, voice sounded, coming from round pinkish lips.

“Where are we? Who are you?” Harry heard himself asking before he could even think.

A soft laugh sounded “I’m Kamir, the Guardian of the Shadows, and we are, apparently, close to a place we call ‘The ancient tree’s home’.”

“I don’t remember seeing or even hearing about a place like this” Harry muttered under his breath, still taking in the place around him.

“This whole realm is protected by a spell that no normal person can reach, even while in dream and those who can would never betray its secret. For you to be here, it can only mean you are to be blessed with our knowledge.” Kamir said, his long fingers curling around his necklace with a weird ring on it, purple eyes never leaving the green ones.

“What knowledge?” He would never pass up a chance to learn new things that could help in the war agaisn’t Voldemort.

“In a hurry, aren’t we? Not even curious about this place, nor how I can communicate with you,” he let out a brief laugh, before Harry could answer to this though, Kamir talked again “the knowledge that we guardians hold and pass it through generations of Drakóns, our power.”

Harry felt as if, again, someone would hide information from him, but before he could angrily demand more answers, Kamir showed up in front of him, in a blink of an eye. “As a Drakón, you hold one of our biggest secrets, that not everyone knows, about our existence. We were hunted for ages, and it’s my job as your guardian to hold and care for you. We don’t have much time, but we’ll meet again,” his voice became more soft, almost caring and loving, “my sweet child, it’s time for you to go back.”

With a touch of a fingertip on his forehead, Harry felt again as if he was floating and getting away from those eyes that looked at him with emotion, while something that still sounded like Kamir’s voice whispered in his mind that he shall find what he wants next to where one lies down.

A loud knock on the door was enough to wake him up, his mind still acting as if he was there with Kamir, wherever that was. It didn’t feel like it was a dream, but it certainly looked like it was one.

“Boy! Wake up, it’s time for breakfast.” He could hear his aunt’s high-pitched voice through the door.

His back was still sore and it was the only thing that was proof of what he went through the night before. Taking a deep breath he got ready to leave the safety of his room, but before he could leave he saw a leather book, it’s cover had straps, keeping it’s yellowed pages, closed tightly by the cover, sitting on his bed, close to where he was just before. A little note was on top of it. Reaching for it, Harry could see a neat handwriting.

“My guardian gave it to me when I was your age, and I, now, pass it to you. Take care of it with your life, it’s a book that only your eyes should read. K.”

He left the room after, without even thinking, hurriedly hiding the book under his pillow, just in case Dudley decided to break into his room while he wasn’t there.

During the whole breakfast, the only thing he could think of was about the immense book that was upstairs, and what secrets may be on it. He didn’t even pay any attention when Vernon started bad-mouthing him, like he used to do whenever he was sitting on the table eating with them.

His stomach was feeling cold inside, while he was getting more and more anxious to read the book, even almost breaking the plates once or twice while he was cleaning the kitchen up, a chore he did since he was nine, his uncle had said that if he wanted to eat, then he should pay for it somehow and Petunia decided to make him clean the whole kitchen after every meal.

Later that day he could feel his heart beating faster, to the point that he could even hear it, when he finally was able to open the book, the first page full with symbols that he couldn’t read, but he was sure that it was greek. Under those symbols, “Drakóns” were written.

“It’s believed that Drakóns are one of the oldest creatures in the whole world that still exists, being said to exist even before the 10th century. It originated in Greece, before moving to a different realm, due to being hunted by the wizards.

The Drakón is a creature that hides between the men, it’s a creature with power bigger than normal wizard magics and they are often mistaken for wizards and witches, until they reach their seventeen birthday, when they finally gain the power to change forms and get stronger.

While in the Drakón forms they have long wings, with scales that match their elemental color, their nails turn into poisonous claws that can be used to defend themselves and those who they see as family. When they change forms they look human-like, even though their scales are still there, they can only be seen by another creature's eyes, never by wizards with no creature blood.

If you, the owner of this book, are reading this, it can only mean you are indeed a Drakón or someone of Drakón’s blood, for any other person would only see a book with blank pages that would repel them before they could try to reach it.

After coming into your Drakón inheritance, you’ll be connected to a person, who is called Guardian. A Guardian's job is to protect and guide the young ones, so they can learn how to be a Drakón. Any young ones are able to visit their guardian while in a dream state, that way even if they’re in different realms, they can reach each other.

The Guardians and their family will see their pupils as their own hatchlings just as the young ones will see the guardian as another parent figure, that way they’ll be able to build a deeper connection.

According to the Ministry, a Drakón is, according to the M.O.M Classification a XXXXX creature, due to being impossible to tame a Drakón, unlike dragons, who can be approached by trained wizards. Due to a Drakón being, according to humans, a species that it’s the closest to a homo sapiens.

The hunt had begun in the 11th century, when due to the magic schools being founded, more and more kids, who were said to be wizards before, came into a Drakón inheritance while still at the school. The pain that the change brought made every wizard know about our existence, and when one of our kids was brought to be studied by them, an attack occurred. The kid tried to defend themselves by using their claws, killing one of their attackers, the others, feeling afraid for their lives, decided to restrain them and later on, after studying everything they could, they killed the child.

After that, anyone who, according to them, had the same characteristics that they were able to study, which was the easiness to do magic, they killed every single person they found that they thought were too powerful. Some of them weren’t even Drakón. So our species that were on Earth decided to go back to their own realm.

Arah Falls was once the home to every creature, but an unknown invasion made the Drakóns fight for their home, the attackers were never found and many lives were lost. Deciding to protect the ones we still could, our people decided to run away to a far place, so that we could be safe.

Earth was supposed to be our new home, but again we had to run away. According to our allies, Some of Arah Falls have been destroyed by those unnamed attackers, and we have retracted to the center of the realm, where the Ancient Tree is at. With the cold seasons that came, the attackers were gone, where to, nobody knows. But Arah Falls was safe again.”

Harry felt tired after reading, his eyes almost closing from the pain he was starting to feel in his head, as if the amount of information was just too much for him. He missed Hermione, maybe if she was like him, she could explain way faster than reading this book.

Thinking about Hermione brought a pain to his heart, how could he keep a secret from her and Ron, maybe after everything they went through, they could be trusted? This would change his whole life. What if the Drakóns made him leave Hogwarts, leave his friends? How could he leave Sirius and Remus?

He didn’t know how or when it happened, but when he finally came back to his senses, he was already looking into Kamir's eyes again.
