Out Of Sight, Not Out Of Mind
"So moral of this story is that either way I want to fight Professor Snape," Leo finished his rant about werewolves.
"Okay I understand everything else but I still don't quite get what Professor Snape's done wrong," Draco had all of his attention on Leo, his friend.
"Obviously Professor Lupin is also in the wrong, as far as I know he never apologized. Don't even get me started on the fact that they made Professor Snape brew the wolfsbane potion. Anyways, Professor Lupin definitely still teased Professor Snape, but it wasn't anything truly malicious. Yet Snape still held such a vicious grudge that he made the choice to ruin Lupin's life. I've already told you how hard it is for a werewolf to get jobs. The mature thing would've been to confront Lupin about their past, not ruin his chances at a stable life! So either this was a result of their unresolved past, or he's just a bigot. Personally, I think it's a combination of both," Leo explained, gesturing with his hands the entire time.
Draco hummed. "Yeah, I guess you have a point,"
"Right?! Anyways, I think we've delved into that enough. Anything interesting happen lately?" Leo grinned at his friend.
Draco's mind flashed to the book before he smiled. "No, not really,"
Leo hummed. "Don't know if I believe you but I won't push it,"
Draco smiled in thanks. "Anything interesting happen to you lately?"
"Well," Leo dragged out the word with a teasing tone. "Some asshole came into the infirmary a couple days ago, I think he might be an okay friend," he smiled.
"Just okay?"
"Hm, we'll see. I've gotta get to class, I'll see you later Draco!" Leo jogged away, waving at Draco as he left.
Draco smiled and waved back before heading back to his next class, potions.
Draco was on autopilot as he wrote down his notes during Snape's lecture. He really wanted to find out all the details on what happened between Snape and Lupin. He gained a new perspective on werewolves thanks to Leo's rant, and now he just wanted to know why he'd do something that, because of prejudices, would ruin Lupin's chance at an independent life. 'I wonder if they ever had to deal with something like this.'
Draco shook his head at the thought. He had been thinking of the book a lot the past day or two. Every time he and Leo part ways in the Great Hall Draco thinks about Oliver when he sat at the Slytherin table. Ever time Leo smiled at him he wondered how Lunar managed to make that many friends when Draco could barely handle one.
"So why don't you talk to Luna?" Leo leaned across the table they were studying at in the library.
Draco looked up from his homework. "What do you mean?" he asked, tilting his head slightly.
"Well you said that you got advice from her so I assumed that you were friends, but I haven't seen you around her," Leo scrunched his nose in thought.
"Oh we're not friends,"
"What do you mean?" Leo asked incredulously.
"I mean we're not friends. She seemed the most approachable so i approached her," Draco shrugged.
Leo blinked at him, leaning back. "Okay, sure, I got ya," he nodded to himself.
Draco sent a confused glare towards his friend before turning back to his homework, completely unaware of Leo's calculating gaze.
'I can do this. I can do this. I can do this. I. Can. Do. This.' Draco took a deep breath, determination filling his veins. "Hey Leo?" Draco walked towards Leo in one of the many hallways, who looked towards Draco when he heard his name. "I've got a quidditch match this weekend, and I've never really had a friend in the stands before, and it looks pretty cool-"
"Draco. I'll go," Leo smiled.
Draco's eyes widened. "Really?!"
"Yeah! We're friends Draco, friends support each other," Leo beamed at Draco.
Draco blushed slightly at Leo's words and looked away, only looking back when he felt a flick against his forehead.
"Draco, you gotta stop acting so shy, we've been friends for two weeks and I've already been approached by a couple people who thought we were dating,"
Draco choked and flushed even more. "People think that?" he sounded almost scared.
Leo chuckled. "Like two, and I set it straight pretty quickly," he straightened up. "But you really need to get used to friendship. Although, it is kind of cute how shy you get whenever I show common decency,"
"I'm not that bad," Draco pouted slightly.
"Sure, whatever you say Malfoy," Leo smirked. "Oh hey, is that Luna?" he asked.
Draco turned to see Luna still a ways away, her nose stuck in a book. "It is," he confirmed.
Leo stood on his tip toes, raised his arm, and yelled. "Hey Luna!"
Luna looked up from her book to see Leo waving towards her while using Draco to balance himself. She walked leisurely up to the duo. "Hello Leo, hello Draco," Luna had a small smile on her face when she spoke.
"Hey Luna,"
"Hello Luna,"
"So Luna, I was wondering if you wanted to study with me and Draco in the library after dinner tonight?" Leo innocently (seemingly) asked.
Luna smiled. "Of course, I'll see you both after dinner,"
"See ya!" Leo waved at Luna before turning towards Draco with a sadistic smile plastered on his face. "God you're so awkward"
Draco was staring after Luna before he turned back to face Leo. "What are you planning?"
"I'm getting you more friends,"
"I don't need more friends," Draco pouted.
Leo looked at Draco with a blank expression. "This is exactly why you need more friends. I'll see you after dinner," Leo walked away, sending a wave to the confused Malfoy.
Another friend?! How was he supposed to handle this? He only has one friend and he almost fucked it up a couple days into knowing him, now he was supposed to be friends with a girl! Was being friends with a girl different? What do they like? Draco knew there was only one way to get the answers he so desperately needed. He couldn't ask Leo, they wouldn't see each other until Draco was confronted with the current source of his problems. He couldn't ask Luna for advice on how to deal with herself, which meant there was only one solution yet.
Draco dug through his chest until he found what he was looking for, House Rivalries And Why They're Bullshit. This should have the answers to his questions, and with that, Draco opened the book once again.
