Chapter Two

Analise sat up in bed, gasping for breath. For a moment, she couldn’t tell if it had been a nightmare or one of her rare visions. Thankfully, Ball's husband slept like the dead so her start hadn’t scared him...but she knew it wouldn’t be long before he realised that she wasn’t asleep. Slowly, she slid out of bed and went into the bathroom to splash water on her face. Analise hadn’t been blessed with the gift of visions as her sister had been but those few moments when Magic decided that Analise was needed somewhere...it let her know. She stood in front of the mirror, trying to shake the memory of what she saw.

For the first time, Analise wasn’t seeing things from outside, she was the girl. A young girl, probably a few years younger than her own son. She had walked up the gravel path to a house that had definitely seen better days in a neighborhood that had seemed dark and dangerous. Not that Analise hadn’t been through dark and dangerous areas but something felt off. A mix of muggle and magic though the magic hadn’t been too...pleasant. Analise, as the girl, waved a hand over the lock and gently pushed the door open. Analise could still smell the blood. There was a woman on the floor, surrounded by a growing puddle of blood and the girl panicked, splashing in the blood as she called out for her mother. It wasn’t until the girl stood and ran out the door that Analise caught a glimpse of her in the window’s reflection.

Those emerald eyes filled with fear and grief, surrounded by blood splatter and the blackest hair. Her skin was so pale that the blood stood out. In her panic, the girl was gone and Analise had been forced awake. She needed to find the girl before anyone else did.

“Love, are you alright?” Abraxas’s voice caused her eyes to shift toward his reflection and Analise smiled softly. She watched him frown and come up behind her, his arms wrapping around her waist as his eyes locked with hers in the mirror. “I’m going to take it as a no. Your smile is not reaching your eyes. What’s wrong?”
“Nothing, love. Just a dream.”

“Dreams do not force you out of bed like this. It’s been years. Do you need me to call your sister?”

The fact that Abraxas was willing to go and speak to her sister made Analise chuckle. He hated his future brother in law but to keep peace in the family, Abraxas never spoke ill of him...to his face.

“No, it was...painfully clear about what I must do.”

“What we must do.” He clarified, his lips turning into a smirk. He trusted his wife’s visions but never mentioned them to the Dark Lord. No, Analise’s gift was kept secret as Abraxas would never use his wife as a weapon. “What did you see?”

“A girl. She found her mother dead but there was no sign of forced entry and the Dark Lord’s magic was nowhere to be found. Tom would have called you if he was making a move like this. The girl unlocked the door and panicked. I’m not sure where she went but she apparated in her panic. She’s no older than Lucius...I need to find her.” Analise said, turning in her husband’s arms and resting her head on his shoulder. It was hard to explain the desire but if the Auror’s got their hands on the girl, she wouldn’t stand a chance. In the vision, she had been covered in blood. That would be enough for them to arrest her and take her in.

“Analise, did she look old enough to be in Hogwarts?” Abraxas felt her nod and he relaxed a bit, “Then we have time. The train leaves in three hours and it will take them six hours to get home. It’s not much but we can look. How’s that, love?”

As much as she wanted...magic told her to stay put. She couldn’t leave just yet. No...as much as she wanted to save the girl from seeing that sight, Magic said she needed to experience it. Magic told Analise to stay put.
