Chapter one
Viktor was irritated.
There were only so many glitter bombs one could tolerate before it got repetitive. Though it seems his sister did not share the sentiment. Jinx found it amusing, drenching the floors of the castle in pink and blue sparkles.
He wipes his face with his free hand and sighs, "Jinx."
The aforementioned girl only giggles in response, jumping down from the pillar above the door she was previously stood on.
"Dad's calling you to his office." she smiles, her lengthy braided hair moving alongside her arms. She never could stay still.
"Any idea why?" Viktor asks, brushing the glitter off his shoulder despite knowing he wouldn't be successful. The only response he gets from his sister is a small shake of her head. Once more he sighs, but begins his trek towards Count Silco's office.
The two hundred year old prince knocks on the large doors, and the small hum of his father leads him to walk in.
"Father." he nods in greeting, Silco in turn says nothing, simply gesturing for him to come sit. The prince sighs and approaches the chairs in front of his father's desk, and takes a seat, placing his cane onto the floor, leaning it onto the table.
"You called?" Silco looks up from the papers he was reading. "Indeed. I have been invited to a gala, topside tonight. I'd like you to come with me." never one to shy away from the point, not with his family, Silco speaks in a way that leaves no room for argument. It was clear that Viktor had no choice in the matter. "Please make sure you aren't covered in glitter by then." The count murmurs dryly, reaching out to wipe his son's face.
Viktor can't help but smile slightly "I think it's charming, no?"
For all his seriousness, Viktor's father was not opposed to jokes, in fact he quite enjoyed laughing. A trait he hid from everyone except his family, after all, he didn't gain the reputation of the eye of Zaun by giggling like a school girl.
At the prince's words, the count smiles slightly and shakes his head. "By all means, son, show up to a piltie gala covered in glitter, It'll do wonders for our reputation." Viktor only shrugs in response.
"When are we to leave?" he asks after a beat of silence. "Sunset, which means you'd better go get ready." Count Silco answers, getting up from his own chair, walking around the desk to where his son was sat. "How is your leg?"
"Ehh," is the noncommittal reply he is offered as Viktor moves to grab his cane and stand, taking the hand his father offers in support.
-----------
Jayce Talis was irritated.
Growing up, he'd always known he was to take his place as head of the Royal Guard of Piltover, yet it never stopped him yearning to follow his dreams, his desire to study and gain knowledge. He knew he owed the Kirammans, their kindness towards himself and his mother after his father's death was something he could only hope to repay. Their daughter, Caitlyn, was basically his little sister and he knew she'd be disappointed if he was to ever express his hatred towards the uniform he currently stood in.
Jayce and politics didn't get along, he much preferred helping his people with his brain and his inventions. Despite it all, he knew he had a duty to perform, for his parents, for his sponsors, for his sister, for his teachers and his people.
He stares at himself in the mirror, fixing his badge as he sighs at his thoughts, not noticing the blue haired girl sneaking up behind him.
"What are you thinking about?" her voice cuts through his thoughts and causes him to jump slightly, turning to grab the intruder's arm and twisting it. "Cait!" he instantly releases her.
Caitlyn winces, more so in annoyance than in pain. "Don't sneak up on me like that, jeez." Jayce murmurs.
"I didn't sneak up on you." The young Kiramman heir rolls her eyes "It isn't my fault your head is always in the clouds."
The taller man sighs at her words, choosing not to reply. "Any new cases that I can help with?" Caitlyn asks, the girl was always desperate to be involved in the work Jayce did, Jayce could tell she wished she was allowed to be part of the guard.
He frowns slightly, "You know I can't tell you, Princess."
At his words Caitlyn rolls her eyes, but admits defeat, for the time being. "Mother and Father wanted me to remind you that you are stationed next to us for the gala tonight." Jayce nods, "Okay, anything else?" Caitlyn is silent for a second before she speaks again "I went shooting with Sheriff Grayson today. She let me win." Jayce looks over at his little sister "Yeah?" the girl nods "She asked me what I was shooting for."
Jayce pauses "and?" Caitlyn has a determined look in her eyes "I want to join the guard." her brother can't help but sigh once more "I know, but what of your parents?" The sheepish look she gives him is enough to set him on edge "well.. I was hoping you'd help me convince them.." Jayce's eyes widened. "No! no no, absolutely not. Caitlyn. You know I can't do that" the taller man shakes his head "I'd do anything for you Caitlyn, you know this, but..."
"But nothing, Jayce, they like you, they listen to you, Please. Just try once, and I'll never ask again! Please?" Jayce frowns, not wanting to disappoint her, he gives in. "Alright fine. But only once, Caitlyn, if your mother says no, then it's a no. And I won't be asking until after the gala tonight."
The grin the eighteen year old werewolf lets out scares him slightly, but he returns it anyways when she hugs him in thanks.
