Summary
Connie Derringer- actually, Connemara Fawley, started at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1971. How is it then that she is only 19 years old in 1995? Why choose between the Marauders Era and Golden Trio Era, when magic is involved?***Lifting my wand, I enchant the class list in front of me, sending the names of my students forward until they each glow silver above a seat.“Find the seat below your name,” I announce to shocked faces.“But professor-,” Ron objects until our eyes meet and he backs down.“There will be no changing my mind. I may be younger than most of your professors, but do not get confused. In my classroom, I have the authority. Quickly now,” I grin....People start moving and I relax, confident in my decision.Once they are all settled I take note of what the pairing spell seems to have accomplished.Harry is seated next to a dark haired Slytherin girl. They have both sat as far apart as possible while still seated at the table.Ron sits beside a very handsome black boy with a smug look on his face.Hermione has been seated beside a platinum blond, who I can only assume is the spawn of Lucius Malfoy.***

Two friends

Later that night, I head towards the potions classroom, where Lily and Severus had agreed to meet to study. When I walk into the classroom I am pleased to see that Lily came. She and Severus are standing over a cauldron, laughing about something.

In the few weeks I had been meeting with Severus, he had never laughed like that. He was normally a very dour boy.

“Connie!” Lily smiles and waves me over.

“What are you guys working on?”

“Just a pepper-up potion. Severus is incredible at potions.”

“Lily is equally as impressive,” Severus compliments. He has a crush on Lily. It is so obvious.

“I’m sorry I am late. I was with Eleanor.”

“The fourth year?” Severus asks.

I nod.

“Connie, I am really sorry about what happened with Sirius at dinner. A prefect took points from him for it,” Lily says as I set my bag down and pull out my potions textbook.

That does make me feel a little bit better.

“I would think Black would want less attention given the embarrassment he’s caused his family,” Snape says.

“What are you talking about?” I ask, while prepping my cauldron.

Lily looks at me with wide eyes.

“You didn’t hear the howler?” she asks.

“Howler?”
“Sirius got a letter a couple of days after the sorting. Something called a howler. It screamed at him in the Great Hall. About how he was a disgrace to the Noble House of Black. I’m surprised you didn’t hear about it. The Slytherins thought it was hilarious,” Lily explains. She doesn’t look at Severus or me when she gets to the last part.

“I don’t really talk to any of the other Slytherins in our year,” I say.

She just nods.

“Well, it certainly doesn’t excuse his behavior. I just thought maybe you should know what he is going through,” Lily smiles, and I try to smile back.

Sirius Black disappointed his family. At least he has got a family.

Lily, Severus, and I work through all of our subjects, and I am pleased when Lily says she wants to find a standing time to study together.
