All or None
Kakashi was having a leisure afternoon, reading his Icha Icha book while occasionally looking up to see his beloved students disseminate their favored training ground. Sakura’s path of destruction is evident by the sharp, jagged boulders that haphazardly litter the broken ground, destroyed several times over with her lethal punches and kicks. Uprooted trees, burning or otherwise, are scattered half-buried in the surface after Sakura, in her zealous haze of attack, grabbed anything within reach to send flying at her horror-stricken teammates. Naruto and Sasuke thought it would be wiser to fight Sakura from a distance, believing she would be easier to deal with the farther they are from her deadly striking distance. How wrong they were. Naruto and Sasuke immediately found themselves honing their evasive skills in the next 5 minutes after gaining their distance from her.
Sasuke’s havoc is almost as distinct as Sakura's, accompanying her destruction by setting anything she sent his way on fire. The pond at the center is no longer there, evaporated after a particular fire jutsu he summoned swallowed it in his desperation to avoid several flying trees the size of houses coming his way.
Naruto is less clear but still noticeable, his Rasengan giving way to craters and his clones covering some parts of the training ground in mists after huge boulders crushed them.
Had it been any other teacher, they would most likely stop the carnage, would instruct their students to train in a more subdued manner, and would most likely stress to their students to train with the idea to incapacitate rather than kill. A responsible teacher would remind the team that they are not in the middle of a real battle but instead in the middle of a friendly spar. But it was Kakashi, and he was more than confident his students could survive their fights.
… And their Sakura is skilled enough to patch them up.
However, his afternoon got interrupted by the summons of the Hokage, a random ANBU dropping down from the trees to inform him. But not before pausing and watching the havoc that is his students.
“Stop running, Naruto!”
“It’s Sasuke’s turn Sakura—CHAN! STOP! WAIT! NO! LOWER YOUR FIST SAKURA—”
Kakashi decided to redirect the ANBU’s attention, coughing slightly. The ANBU turned, body tense as the spar(?) raved behind him and gave Kakashi his summons. But the attention of the ANBU was quickly retrieved by his team, and Kakashi could not blame (deduced under Kakashi’s observing eyes) the newest recruit of the ANBU. Team 7 is a spectacle when in battle. He followed suit, lazy eyes following Sakura as she punched the recently vacated spot Naruto was standing on with swelling pride. Sakura has come a long way.
As if trying to prove her sensei right, the land caved under her attack and sent boulders as huge as a fully grown adult with edges as sharp as a kunai flying in Naruto's direction. Naruto’s hands flew to a jutsu he recently learned, one that he has been relentless to practice.
“Wind Release: Tornado Trap!”
“Naruto you utter dumbass—”
Sasuke, who was standing nearby, was quick to rescue Sakura. His arms wrapped around her midsection to get her to safety as he deftly avoided the debris in the ruined training ground getting sucked into the whirlwind. A huge boulder came hurtling towards them, and Sasuke cursed, one hand waving into a lightning jutsu.
“Lightning Release: Electromagnetic Murder!”
The powerful stream of lightning cut through the rock. But to the horror of Sakura, who was facing the growing tornado, the lightning turned and changed direction to the furious whirlwind, covering it in sparks powerful enough to destroy boulders as he had showcased earlier and made the technique even deadlier. Fortunately, Naruto released it. Sasuke put Sakura down, and she immediately turned, fist raised to punish Naruto. Before the battle could become a literal bloodbath (Sakura bathing in Naruto's blood), he called their attention.
“That’s enough for today,” drawled Kakashi, watching in amusement as Naruto immediately fell to the ground in a heap, exhausted and frightened.
“Fin- finally,” he gasped as his face paled faster than he could eat ramen. “Sakura-chan,” he gulped as he desperately tried to calm his racing heart, “Sakura-chan was trying to kill us there.”
Sakura scoffed, “No I wasn’t,” she argued, “that was how Lady Tsunade trained me in the very beginning. Medics need to master evasive maneuvers.”
Naruto stared at her, horrified. She was 12 when she began training under Tsunade... right? And Tsunade wasn’t known for her kind and nurturing nature. Suddenly, it made sense why she was incredibly violent. Anyone would be if they were under so much stress since 12. Sakura continued, her eyes glazing to look at a past Tsunade no one but her could see, oblivious to the horrified Naruto, “A downed medic is a downed village. And besides,” Sakura got down on her knee, her fist harshly landing on top of Naruto’s head.
“ You were the one who almost got us killed!”
“It was instinctual! I panicked!”
“I’ll give you something to instinctually panic about—”
“—That doesn't make sense and— And Sasuke also threw his lightning— now that was deadly—”
“I was trying to save Sakura from your stupid—”
“Why just Sakura—”
“—Thank you for that Sasuke-kun—”
“—Why does he get a thank you—“
Kakashi clapped his hand once, gaining the attention of his students, their growing argument stopping midway.
“Okay, that was a brilliant spar. Let’s just all agree you almost got yourselves killed,” he told them amicably, “Sakura’s boulders almost crushed you, and in your panic, the three of you created a deadly technique I heavily recommend not using in the middle of the village, but you’re all alive and that’s all that matters. How about we let this one go?”
Like the rest of your post-spar arguments, went unsaid.
Sakura huffed and settled on the ground beside Naruto, her hair brushing against his wrist. “Okay, fine.”
Naruto released a breathy laugh, “Okay, Kakashi-sensei," and then a mumbled, "My bad, Sakura-chan, Sasuke.”
Sakura sighed and mumbled, “We’re all at fault for that one. It’s okay.”
They heard Sasuke grunt from beside them before he too settled on the ground, back against the broken boulder he pierced earlier. He looked nonchalantly at the amused Kakashi when Naruto wheezed in obvious pain after he planted both his foot in his stomach, freezing just slightly when Sakura’s arm brushed against his legs but relaxing after a few seconds. That was how Kakashi left them, under the blazing afternoon sun surrounded by the havoc they caused, faces tired but content. How he wished he stayed with them.
“The council has approved the Uchiha to go to Hogwarts, and Naruto can come along to ensure he doesn’t get himself in deep trouble. Sakura, however, they can’t allow. Her position in the hospital is too important to be left alone for a year, and we need her talent to teach the next generation of medical ninjas. Shizune and I will help her, of course, but she’s under training to replace me in the hospital and—”
Kakashi wonders if his cute students are still out in the training ground or if they moved to Ichiraku. They probably have moved to Ichiraku, he concluded. The sun is hot, and they must be hungry after the training they went through.
“Kakashi!” thundered Tsunade, “are you listening?!”
“Look Hokage-sama, I refuse to die via cute little students because you and the council decided to separate them for a year. That’s not an ideal way to die,” Kakashi explained, “you can tell them the mission yourself if you wish.”
“You’re their teacher, Kakashi. They defer to you.”
“And you are their Hokage, Lady Tsunade. They must obey you.”
The two silently stared at each other, willing the other to back down and admit defeat. Team 7 has gained a reputation ever since the return of the last Uchiha. And although the two know that the team will never cause any intentional harm to the village, their tantrums could still cause some heads to turn . Neither ninja wants to be in the position of being stared at by onlookers like a circus as Sakura spouted facts after facts in an attempt to rebuke the order, Naruto yelling his dissatisfaction with several imaginative insults while Sasuke slowly freezes their body with his glare.
“Hatake Kakashi,” growled Tsunade. “Bring Team 7 here. As well as Hyuga Hinata.”
Kakashi’s eyes crinkled as he smiled, “Yes, Hokage-sama.”
With a poof of smoke, Kakashi disappeared, and Tsunade began yelling for her sake, “GIVE ME THE STRONGEST ONE SHIZUNE GODDAMIT!”
She can’t deal with Team 7, specifically Naruto, sober.
Kakashi, feeling guilty of saying no to his Hokage, told them of the mission, as well as the plan to leave Sakura behind. Predictably, Naruto exploded, Sasuke’s features became colder, and Sakura… Sakura’s face was impassive. Tsunade felt a cold shiver go through her spine, and she demanded yet another bottle. The team is coming.
