people talk.
"is there any way i could leave to get to dr. dillamond's class, madame morrible? like... right now?" elphaba questioned.
class was normally dismissed roughly 20 minutes before the next class but dr. dillamond's class was the only class to not have assigned seats, though, half assigned their own and the others sat wherever. to avoid having to fight that rose and peony scented girl and her entourage for a seat, elphaba opted to leave class 30 minutes before her next class.
"but ms. elphaba classes aren't dismissed for another 10 minutes and thats plenty of time for us to complete what we are working on." madame morrible says, motioning her hands toward the clock.
"well, yes, but-" elphaba speaks but is abruptly cut off by one of the books somehow finding its way to the floor.
"yes, indeed, shall we finish?" morrible goes to pick up the book completely ignoring the defeated looking elphaba.
when class is officially dismissed, elphaba pratically runs from morrible's study to dr. dillamond's classroom but slows down not to draw any attention to herself. she barely makes it to the class before the others pile in and she's sitting in an area that many cling too.
dr. dillamond is at his desk arranging is notes for the upcoming class. and as soon as elphaba starts to settle setting her books up on the desk, she hears the familar clatter and chatter that followed the roommate she didn't choose.
"well, dr. dilly should just give me a pass because i have actually put forth an effort. i could do something crazy like pay him off to give me a passing grade but i'm actually trying right now." galinda says to fiyero, pfannee, and shenshen, who were on her like she was the center of gravity, listening attentively like puppy dogs.
"right! history is important because it has gotten us to where we are now but when you ask us to retell it then you're simply just doing too much." says pfannee.
"dr. dilly is such a silly nickname. but fitting for such a unsilly man." fiyero blurts mindlessly.
galinda continues to her "seat" while conversing with shenshen about some shoes that were in the most recent catalouge or something. elphaba wasn't paying too much attention to the conversation only to the fact that the group was getting closer and that she really didn't want to be by them. she'd began to get ready to get up and gather her things but wasn't able to do any of that due to the sudden contact between her and the blonde.
galinda hadn't been paying attention and found herself sitting directly on elphaba's lap.
"you're in my seat!" galinda shouted, startled by the fact she could've been so klutzifying.
"there are no seats." elphaba mutters as she gestures the girl to get off of her but she doesn't move.
"there definitely are! well at least for me! and this wouldn't have happened if you'd have known it!" galinda stands (or should i say sits) her ground, not budging.
elphaba doesn't have time for this, she partially embarrassed because this happened in front of almost the entire class with galinda being the it girl of shiz and overall just annoyed because this happened period. so she grabs the girl by her waist and gradually brings her to her feet while somehow simultaneously grabbing her things, standing up and sitting galinda into "her seat". finding another seat in the way back of the class.
dr. dillamond was too caught up in reviewing his notes to say anything but the rest of the class was very much doing the opposite, whispers filled the room almost instantaneously as they marveled at the sight before them. elphaba even hearing a student call her immature for not accepting the fact that people were allowed to say which seats were theirs without it being some kind law established by a professor, it made her seethe but they were the immature one for backing galinda like she was some god. but class was finally starting now, and hopefully by the end of it no one would be saying a thing.
oh boy was she wrong. the whole thing had become a spectale and its no better that elphaba could barely focus the entire class because she was thinking about it. dr. dillamond was going on about how ozians were descended from some old magical entity and all elphaba could think about was how warm galinda's skin felt when she went to grab her or how her face had the slightest blush on it when galinda looked her directly in the eyes and whether it was intentional or not or on whether or not she felt a certain by doing such a thing, whether she was thinking about it too.
and she certainly was. the fact it happened in front of everybody was embarrassing as hell but the moment was so intimate and elphaba was much prettier than she had ever realized and her hands were warm and her nails had just barely scraped her skin and it gave her goosebumps, her eyes were such a nice shade of green and her- she shook her head to try to snap out of it. she finally had time to process it because she was surprisingly paying attention in dr. dillamond's class. and there are too many people around for her to be fawning over something that had to be some form of sickness. her head was warm, her stomach felt weird, and her heart started beating really fast. she was definitely sick.
"i can't believe she touched you!" a student tells galinda.
"i can't believe you touched her." a student snickers at elphaba behind her back.
oz, they felt sick walking through the dining hall. elphaba couldn't bring herself to eat and ultimately found herself in the shiz gardens. and so did galinda. she had made some shitty excuse to sneak off and take a breather. elphaba and galinda both stomped about the gardens until, unfortunately, coming in contact with another once more. they had bumped heads with each other, literally, and it only fueled a further flame.
"oz! watch where you're go-" both girls exclaimed before realizing who they had bumped into.
"i can't believe-" they speak simultaneously once more and simply just grunt in fustration.
"let me go first at least." elphaba protests. "its really not that big of a deal. people are going to be people. they're gonna talk and say things." elphaba says sitting on the bench that is conveniently place in the gardens.
"and you're just gonna let them say those things? you're actually ridiculous. i have a reputation!" galinda exclaims talking down at her.
"it was a seat." elphaba says.
"thats not what i'm talking about or anyone's talking about... you touched me." galinda muttered harshly, blush threatening to creep upon her face.
"is that... against the law or something..." elphaba questions, eyebrow raised to the sky.
"no one is taking that lightly! oz! its pretty scandalocious!" galinda exclaims angrily. "you're supposed to hate me! loathe me! and everyone knows it! yet you put your hands on me!" she says, arms flailing around as she paces. "also you're-" galinda says as she stops and stares into elphaba.
"green." elphaba finishes, sighing loudly as she gets up and walks away.
"beautiful." galinda says it barely a whisper as elphaba walks by.
elphaba swears she heard it or that her ears deceived her and she'd made it up. made it up hoping that she and galinda could be closer that that instance would grant her the relationship she wanted with her. a friend. or something like that.
i made her blush. more than once. did she really call me beautiful? no way. no one has ever done that. no. she didn't. oz. i want her. i want her? i can't believe i just said that. thought it? elphaba thinks as she sped walk back to the dorm.
and galinda was pratically on her heels, wanting to apologize which would cause her her reputation if she admitted anything to her or established a relationship with her.
they walked thru the door at almost the same time as each other. they stared at each other with one angry glare and went their seperate ways.
