Batburger Loophole

“I’m starving,” Steph complains loudly next to Batman, where they sat on a rooftop watching the GCPD take Penguin’s men away. “We should get batburger on the way home,” She says with a grin. “No,” Batman says sternly, still focused on the building they just cleared. Steph huffs with fake annoyance. “ Bruce would let me get Batburger. He says its “good to let me feel like a kid.”” Batman pauses and thinks it over. His head turns to finally look at Steph. “Fine.” Steph grins triumphantly. She’ll have to thank Duke for telling her about this loophole later.

Later, when the patrol was over, the two of them started to swing towards the nearest Batburger. “Hope you brought a lot of cash, old man.” Batman sighs. Of course he did. Problem is, he only brought hundreds. The Batburger is in view now. “Let’s go through the drive through,” Steph says, already swinging to that side. “We aren’t in a car, Spoiler.” She waves him off, “It’s fine. Think of how grainy the cameras are outside than inside. Think of it as protecting our identities.” Batman thinks it over. “Fine.” They swing and land right next to the speaker in the empty parking lot. It crackles to life and a tired worker asks “Welcome to Batburger, how may I take your order?”

“Hey, yeah, I want a double batburger with a large jokerized fry and a large Hi-C. Bats, what do you want?” “I’m not hungry.” Steph rolls her eyes, “And can I also get a jokerfish sandwich with a small fry, apple juice, and a side salad? No dressing.” She rattles off Bruce’s order easily. “And also throw in two chocolate chip cookies, please. That’s all.” “Pull up to the next window.” They walk over and Steph holds her hand out for the cash. Batman hands her a hundred. “You have gotta switch to fifties at least,” SHe says under her breath.

The window opens and the worker says “Forty five sixty,” and then turns to look at them. Then pauses. “You aren’t in a car,” They say with shock, obviously meaning “Oh my god it's Batman and Spoiler not some random gothamites.” Spoiler grins, “Nope! Can you break a hundred? If not, just keep the whole thing, honestly.” The worker nods and takes the hundred, shutting the window and walking off. As they wait for their change, several other workers poke their head around a wall to look out the window at the two vigilantes. “Maybe we could’ve paid in autographs,” Steph jokes. Batman refrains from telling her off about the ethics of that. He can take a joke. Kind of.

The worker returns, slightly less shellshocked, and hands Steph a wad of cash. “Thanks! I’ll keep the change, Bats.” “Hn.” “Your food is at the next window,” The worker says. The window closes and they go to the next one. After a couple minutes of waiting, A different worker, still staring as much as the previous one, hands them a bag. “Have a good day,” They say with practice. “You too! Thanks!” Steph takes the bag and leads Batman away from the window and onto the curb of the parking lot, where she sits down. Batman follows her lead.

“My burger… Your fries… your salad-” She’s handing out the food as she speaks, and Batman just watches. “I didn’t order anything.” “Yeah, but I know you need to eat, we’ve been out here forever. I figured you’d at least appreciate the salad you square.” Batman snorts at the name calling, and Steph smiles at the reaction. “I got you a cookie too. You have to eat that because its a gift.” “Okay, Spoiler,” Batman says with a small smile. He doesn’t even think to tell her it isn’t technically a gift because it was bought with his own money.

They sit on the curb and dig in to the fast food. Batman does enjoy Bruce’s order, even if he thinks the fish sandwich is too greasy and the salad is kind of wilted. Steph cracks jokes about the naming conventions of the fast food chain and Batman occasionally laughs. When the food is gone, the wrappers are tossed in a nearby dumpster, and they grapple away. In the morning, videos from the workers that night showing the two bonding go viral, and Steph saves a couple to her phone.
