An Explanation of Canon Divergence

1. Harry’s Magical Capability

Harry has a very inconsistent range of magical competence and capability. I believe this was to highlight his extreme gift for DADA, but many of the spells learned there can be considered other branches of magic as well. I plan on making his range of magic more consistent, and have him more on par with Voldemort as he goes through school. Nothing too extreme, but he’s not going to just be good at DADA and Quidditch.

2. Hermione’s Social Capabilities

Hermione, in the books, was very oblivious to social cues. Many people only consider Luna to be neurodivergent, but I believe that Hermione is as well. When people point out her being insensitive, she’s not going to turn her nose up and walk away, she’s going to be more confused and receptive to people explaining what she did rudely. Hermione is inquisitive and has a desire to learn, but that doesn’t just apply to school.

3. The Dursley’s Abuse

The Dursley’s were abusive to Harry. Some of it was only implied in the books, but I plan on making it clearer how much they hurt him, I don’t plan on him nearly dying, lying in pools of blood, or being brutally mutilated. That’s far too excessive.

4. How Magic Works

I plan to make it clearer just how magic works. I want to delve more into accidental magic, a further understanding of spells, and a clearer grasp of wandless magic.

5. Pureblood Culture

I want Harry to have a little more knowledge of Pureblood society and their reasons for their actions. I also plan on lessening the Slytherin hate a bit, because that was almost Harry’s house, and I think the author did them dirty.
