A Bookish Breakfast

“What do you think, Moony?”

Sirius’ voice snapped Remus out of his thinking. He wasn’t sure what he’d been talking to James about, but it sounded like a bad idea, a very bad, stupid, and fun idea. “Explain it to me again,” the werewolf said.

James rolled his eyes playfully, “So I was thinking that, since the rules say we can’t be out of bed after curfew, we could levitate our bed’s through the hallways.”

”How are we supposed to get the bed out of the common room?” Peter asked.

”Magic,” Sirius said. “What did you think, Pete?”

The mousy boy went a bit red at that. Technically, Peter was a pureblood, but that didn’t stop him from not being able to see simple magical solutions half of the time.

Remus shook his head fondly. They’d get in trouble for it no matter what the rules said, but he knew his friends would do it anyway. He also knew that’d he’d be there along for the ride.

”What do you say, Moonykins?” Sirius asked.

“Let’s do it,” Remus grinned.

Their not-so-vicious plotting was interrupted by a commotion at the staff table. A loud bang resounded throughout the room, and the teachers were looking in shock at a stack of books in front of the headmaster.

”It seems we’ve received a present for the start of term,” Dumbledoor said calmly. “Ah, there’s a note as well.”

Dear Headmaster,

Please read this letter aloud to the students and staff members.

These books are the biographical work of the one who will bring about the end of Voldemort. I have sent them back from the future thanks to recent advancements in time magicks.
I have also included a list of people who must be present during the readings. Everyone on the list, the staff members, and the students must be present at all times when reading.

  • Molly Weasley
  • Arthur Weasley
  • Dorea Black Potter
  • Charlus Potter
  • Walburga Black
  • Orion Black

I wish you good luck.

–H.J.G.

Well that was unexpected.

Dumbledoor regarded the books with interest. Many students had started whispering with fear, naive hope, and incredulity. The wizened headmaster looked over the tables and announced out, “Very well, I shall legitimize these texts, but in the mean time, please trot off to class students.”

Remus noticed Sirius’ expression immediately. It was one of both fear and hope. Hope that they could find a way to defeat Voldemort permanently, and fear that his parents might come to Hogwarts. When getting up he walked next to him closely, so their shoulders were sort of pressed against each other.

James smiled at the two of them. He was sort of shocked and apprehensive when they first started dating, which was just less than a month ago, but he was pretty used to the idea now. Besides, they were a great support for each other.

Peter just walked with them obliviously. James had found out accidentally, just two days after they got together. Remus and Sirius didn’t want everyone to know, and they figured that it would be easier if Peter found out on his own.

Sirius looked at his boyfriend adoringly. Boyfriend, boyfriend, the word felt so strange to Sirius. A good kind of strange. Would his parents find out if they came to Hogwarts? Sirius hoped not.

Non-heterosexual relationships have usually been regarded with indifference in the wizarding world, except in the case of an heir, or blood status mixing. Sirius being the pure blood heir of House Black, even as disgraced as he was, would practically be treated like criminal for dating Remus. The Lupin’s may have been in good standing at one point, but Remus was still a known half-blood.

James nudged his brother out of his own head, “Come on, race you to Charms.”

And off they ran.

At Lunch

Sirius was chugging his pumpkin juice and being cheered on by James. Peter was eating his sandwich and Remus was explaining how Transfiguration worked to a little firstie. (First year student) Everyone had put the events of breakfast out of their minds for the time being. That is, until Dumbledoor appeared at the Staff Table holding them.

”Hello students,” the old man said. “It appears that everything written within these books are true.”

His words were met with an outcry of disbelief, primarily from the Slytherin table.

”That is to say,” he continued. “The note itself, may contain falsified information.”

A few people settled down a bit more after this clarification. One student, however, still had questions, “Are we going to be reading the books as a school professor?”

”That is the intention, yes.”

”Does that mean you’re calling our parents?” James interjected.

The headmaster merely smiled in an infuriating way. Both James and Sirius let out two identical snorts of anger at his ignoring of James’ question.

Their question, however, was answered a moment later.

The doors flew open, and in strutted Walburga and Orion Black. Sirius visibly paled three shades. Over at the Slytherin Table, Regulus attempted to draw back and out of sight, but there was nowhere to hide in the Great Hall.

”What’s the meaning of this?” the boys’ mother demanded. “You said there was an incident regarding our children.”

”If you’d shut up for half a minute, maybe you would find out,” spoke Dorea Black-Potter. She and her husband appeared along with the Weasley’s in the doorway.

James grinned at his mom, who had yet to look at him. Her eyes were trained on the headmaster, clearly waiting for an explanation as well.

“We have been sent a message from the future,” he finally said. “I have fully confirmed the information within, and I believe it contains the fate of many in this room.”

Walburga’s incredulous look of disgust furthered the old man’s explanation. It pertains most to the Potter family, but the fate of your own children are included… I believe.”

”And of our fates?” Orion asked.

”You are likely included, but I cannot be certain.”

“Sounds like fun!” Charlus said, seemingly content to read a set of books claiming to be from the future.

Others took more convincing, but in the end, everyone sat down at the tables to hear the tale of a supposed savior.
