The Last Star Left
Summary
The one time Sirius Black picked up a book and read it. Remus needed to know what it was about but Sirius, being stubborn wouldn't spill.

“Sirius?” James asked, “Sirius, are you paying attention?”
To be honest, no. He wasn’t. To James’s surprise, he was reading.
“Hmm? What was that Potter?” Sirius had asked him, clearly uninterested.
Sirius black was not the reading type. For some reason he got outstanding on most of his O.W.L.S. No one understood why, Because you’d never see Sirius Black sit down and pay attention to a book.
“Mate, What are you reading that's so interesting?” James had asked, Intrigued in Sirius’s new ability.
“Bugger off Potter, I'm busy.” Sirius had mumbled back, turning the page on his book. He leaned back into the common room couch to get more comfortable.
“Damn you, Black.” James got up and scoffed as he awaited a reaction from Sirius but none came. He just turned the page in his book, paying more attention.
----
It was worse when Lily Evans and Remus Lupin walked in.
“Thanks for studying with me Evans I-” Remus stopped dead in his tracks. No, it couldn't be. His beloved boyfriend…. Was sitting on the couch.. Reading?!
“Is that?” Lily started
“Yeah.” Remus replied, swallowing air.
“Is he?”
“Yeah.”
“Why?” Lily asked confusedly, In all her life at Hogwarts she had never seen Sirius reading a book, yet she never questioned it.
“I honestly have no idea. But I'm going to find out.” Remus said as he started stocking over to Sirius.
“Love?” Remus had asked him. Sirius looked up and softened at his boyfriend. He carefully put a piece of paper in between the pages of where he left off and set the book in his lap.
“Hello Moony.”
“What are you doing?”
“Well my darling I was walking in the library and saw this book. It looked interesting so I checked it out and now I’m reading it.” Sirius had said as he got up to hug his boyfriend.
Sirius pulled him into a tight embrace and Remus had slowly and carefully backed away, Not wanting to alarm the other boy but wanting answers.
“Is everything alright Moony?”
“Y-Yeah, everything's alright.. I was just wondering why?”
Sirius tilted his head like a confused puppy pondering what Remus was talking about.
“Why what?”
“Love, why are you reading”
Sirius giggled at that and Remus gave him a confused smile. Why was he laughing? Remus thought as he looked at Sirius’s giant grin.
“I know it's random my dear but it's a good book.”
Remus huffed at the thought of Sirius calling a book good.
“What's it about?”
“That's for me to know and for you to.. Well, not find out” Sirius gave him a quick kiss and ran up the stairs to go to his dorm.
Remus looked starstruck as Lily walked over to him.
“What was that? Is Black okay?” She said stifling laughter at Remus’s face.
“I have no idea.”
-----
Sirius had to be a slow reader, he had to be. Soon after James and Remus caught him reading he would read everywhere. He couldn’t get enough of it. He would read at breakfast and dinner, He would read during class, He would read it whenever he could. This book had to be at least 600 pages. Remus just wanted to know what the book was about, no he needed to know what the book was about. Sirius never read. Ever! So what could have gotten him so interested?
-------
“Sirius.” Remus said tiredly
“Mhm?” Sirius said about opening the book for the third time today.
Remus put his hand on Sirius's moving one. Physically telling him to stop reading.
Sirius looked up at Remus's smile, his favorite thing.
“What's up Moony?”
“The sky.” Remus giggled as Sirius rolled his eyes but Remus’s giggle quickly faltered.
Remus looked down at the floor almost with an upsetting look on his face.
“What's with the long face?” Sirius had asked him as he put his hand on his boyfriend's face, cupping his jaw.
“Please Sirius?”
“What?”
“Please tell me what the book is about.” Remus whined, awaiting an answer he knows he's not going to get.
“Remus, you're so impatient, I'll tell you soon.” He promised Remus with a short but passionate kiss.
“I’m really glad to have you moony” he told him, he never cared for anyone as much as he did for Remus Lupin.
“I’ll say it back if you tell me what the book is about.”
Sirius grinned and got up from the couch.
“I’ll see you tonight Moony.” He smiled down at him
“Okay Sirius.”
“Oh also I just wanted to say something before I go.” Sirius added as Remus looked back up at him.
“Yes Pads?”
“Don’t look for the book like you did last night because you aren't going to find it.”
And on that note, he left.
-----
The marauders and Evans were sitting at the great hall for dinner. Sirius was almost 3 quarters of the way done with it and Remus stopped asking, He knew Sirius would tell him eventually even though Remus really did want to know.
“What year at Hogwarts were your favorite guys?” James asked, It was kind of random but a way to make small conversation to make the time pass.
“Probably year 6.” Lily said blushing. James smiled faintly at the remembrance of their first kiss.
“Alright Evans?.” James asked swooningly
“Hop off it Potter”
“Mine was probably year 4.” Remus said, Sirius looked at him and smiled. He had liked year 4 too.
“Year 5 for me, I had my best grades then. But then again everything went downhill from year 5 huh? Also known as the infamous prank?” Peter said jokingly, but no one laughed.
“Peter.” James said quietly, hinting a subtle.. “Why the fuck would you say that?”
Sirius looked down at His and Remus’s hands tangled together under the table. Then at his feet partially from embarrassment and partially from regret.
Remus cleared his throat, “right guys I’m getting kind of tired. See you tomorrow Evans.” He quickly got up and rushed out of the great hall.
Sirius gave Peter a glare before going right after Remus left his stuff at the table, for that wasn’t important right now.
“Moony.” Sirius called out hoping he would stop walking but he only got faster in his speed.
“Remus please slow down.” Sirius said, speeding up his pace following Remus into the Gryffindor common room.
(We’re going to pretend you don't have to go up those moving stairs to go to the common room.)
“Remus look-”
“No, it's fine, we don't have to talk about it.”
“Your making it seem like-”
“It's fine. Sirius. Go finish your dinner please.”
“But Moony I want to be with you.”
“Sirius please.” Remus looked down at him with pleading eyes. He just wanted to be alone. He just wanted to forget.
“I don't want you to be upset, Love.”
“Sirius.” Remus simply said, and that was enough. Sirius left Remus in the common room hesitantly before making his way back to the great hall.
---
Remus just wanted to sleep. He was already in bed when the other 3 marauders came into the room.
“You think he's sleeping?” James asked
“Probably,” Peter replied.
“Shut up Pettigrew.” Sirius sneered but quickly stopped himself from saying anything further
Peter looked taken aback but he wasn’t mad, he had no right to it anyways.
“I’m sorry guys I’m just-” Sirius started but got painfully interrupted by his 2 friends.
“Stressed?” James asked
“Scared?” Peter added.
“No. I'm worried. Not stressed or scared. I'm worried.”
James gave a small smile as he got into his pajamas. They all did. James went to his bed and Peter went to his as if nothing happened in the past 30 minutes.
Sirius started walking to his bed and stopped shortly in front of Remus like he was going to open it.
Remus wished he did.
Sirius sighed and walked over to his own bed, head down in defeat.
----
“Remus.” Peter whispered to him in the middle of charms class
“Yes peter?”
“I’m sorry for bringing up year 5 yesterday. I didn’t mean to cause anything between you and sirius.”
“It's fine, mate. I know you meant no harm.”
Peter smiled at that.
“Now pay attention Pettigrew, don't want to be slacking do you?”
---
Remus had been done with all his classes just like the other gryffindors. He decided to just study in the library, maybe find a good book.
Sirius. Remus thought over and over again. He couldn’t stop thinking about what happened. He just wanted to be in his boyfriend's arms. Alas, it wasn’t as simple as he wanted it to be.
“Remus?” James asked quietly
“Potter?”
“Sirius wants to talk to you in the common room.” James stated quietly, he could hear the smirk in his voice as he spoke.
“Okay.. thanks James.”
“Your welcome Lupin.”
--
“Sirius?” Remus said aloud in the common room looking for his boyfriend
“Hey moons.” Sirius said regretfully, looking at Remus.
“Don’t give me that look, Sirius. I-”
“Wait, stop talking for a moment Lupin.”
Remus snapped his mouth shut. Sirius walked closer towards Remus and put the book in his hands. THE book.
“Before you open it up let me give you a little summary.” Sirius said as Remus smiled down at him. Sirius grinned and continued. “Basically, the entire solar system got destroyed. It was the end of all star life up there except for one lone survivor.”
“Sirius I don't understand-”
“Darling, if you’d let me continue you would.”
Remus shut his mouth again, damn this was hard.
“Anyway, This one star unwillingly had started gravitating toward the moon. You see the Moon survived so the solar system was made up of just a star and a moon.”
Remus frowned at the thought. Must have been lonely.
“Don’t be sad Lupin, it gets better.”
Sirius continued with his description of the story. “The star and the moon started talking to each other. Corny I know, but in a way that a moon and a star could, they got to know each other. They fell in love with each other. It was just them, and only them. Nothing could ever tear them away from each other because their love was so strong.”
Remus smiled, catching on to what this story was about, more like who the story was about.
“I’m guessing from your smile you know where I’m going with this.”
Remus looked down at him as Sirius let out an exhale.
“I love you Moony. I always will. I couldn’t put down that book for one reason. You.”
“Fuck, I love you too.” Remus said and Sirius let out a long awaited breath.
Remus pulled Sirius in for a kiss that was like no other. A kiss that drove them both mad. They kissed each other like they were running out of time. No one could ever experience what they had for each other.”
“Well what happens in the end.”
“It's sad.”
“Tell me.”
Sirius nodded at Remus, and continued at the end.
“Well the star faded. The moon knew they didn’t have forever, yet the time they had together was worth the pain it was going to feel forever.”
Remus frowned. He didn’t want Sirius to fade. But it was almost as if Sirius read his mind.
“Don't worry love, I won't fade. We have forever.”
“Forever.” Remus repeated.
