The Final Stop
Mary McDonald was heading to Alice Fortescue's house, her best friend since their first year at Hogwarts. Remus Lupin was also there, helping Alice with last minute decorations.
But right when Mary was going to knock on the door and owl landed on her shoulder with a letter tied to it's leg. Mary opened it and as soon as she was done reading it she was crying.
"No, it can't be. It's impossible!"she sobbed.
She started knocking on the door loud and fast, begging for someone to open to her, and someone did. It was Remus.
He looked at her confused on why she was crying when it was supposed to be a joyful night.
"Mary what's wrong?" he asked her.
But all that she did was run inside and stand in front of Alice waiting for Remus to join her too.
Alice looked up and smiled, happy to see her bestfriend but as soon as she saw her expression she knew something was wrong.
"Something awful has happened!" and she began explaining everything.
Remus started sobbing almost immediately, Alice was sitting there, shaking her head in denial. She couldn't believe it.
Remus, in need of air, ran outside and screamed. That's all he could do. "It wasn't fair" he thought.
Mary sat there comforting Alice who was still sitting looking outside the window in denial.
Right outside the Malfoy Manor, Peter Pettigrew was preparing to apparate outside Alice's home. Two of his friends were already killed, one in azkaban blamed for his actions and there was three more to go: Alice, Remus and Mary.
He grabbed his want tighter, closed his eyes and apparated.
"It's okay Ali, let it all out"
Alice was now crying, it finally hit her that her friends were gone for good. That she'll never see them again. She wanted to take Harry in and raise him but Dumbledore had already taken the matter in his hands but Alice didn't trust him. She cried for James whom was the embodiment of kindness, who was always there for her whenever she needed him. She already missed his hugs. She cried for Lily and fir everything she had been through, for her loving personality and her sacrifice of pure love. and of course for baby Harry who now had to grow up without a loving family, a family he once had.
And the doorbell rang.
Remus who was now back and sitting with both girls stood up and walked to the window. He spotted a short figure and recognized him as Peter. He ran to open the door and tell him about what had happened.
"Oh Peter! Something bad-" and he was cut off. Peter was pointing his wand at him and before Remus could react, he was hit by the killing curse and he was gone.
Alice and Mary, hearing everything from upstairs, ran to hide in the closet. They were too scared to think about hiding elsewhere or even apparating.
"I know you're in there, you're both pathetic" Peter announced.
At this point, the girls were already looking at eachother knowingly they'll suffer the same fate as all of their friends.
Peter pointed his wand again at the closet and Alice and Mary were gone too.
Peter was the last man standing. He had won, or had he? He felt powerful and yet dirty at the same time. How could he had done that to his childhood friends? How did he even manage to pull that off? Wasn't Remus supposed to be smarter? Or James stronger? But now, in his eyes, he was the most powerful but he was all alone.
