Sirius had been running 30 minutes late. He hadn’t woken up to the 13 alarms he set the night prior. He quickly shoved on his black, leather jacket that was covered in pins and ironed on patches and touched up his gelled hair.
He then walked out of his apartment door and locked it behind him. After taking the elevator down two floors, he walked fast towards the station where a train was set to arrive in 2 minutes. He breathed out a sigh of relief when he released he wouldn’t be later for today’s meeting at the courthouse. There were many reasons why he didn’t want to be late for today’s meeting. One of them was definitely not to see Remus again. Nope. He just wanted to be on time for his job like every other day. No ulterior motive here.
Sirius quickly snapped back out of his thoughts to the sound of the train halting. He quickly stepped on and found a nice corner seat. He dug through his jacket pocket and pulled out his phone to check any messages he may have received. Just as he was about to unlock his phone, he looked up and noticed who was sitting across from him. It was Remus.
Sirius took a sharp breath and looked back down at his phone. Remus was literally across from him and he didn’t even realize it. Remus and his son, Teddy.
Sirius had only seen Teddy with Remus once or twice on the rare occasion. Remus had told him once that Teddy spent a lot of his time with his mom because of the hassle of bringing Teddy with him to the courthouse.
After that Sirius tried to stop himself whenever he had any less than appropriate thoughts regarding Remus and their relationship. They were only good friends. Remus, after all, was married to a woman he called Tonks. Sirius could never be with Remus even if he really wanted to. The sound of talking brought Sirius back to attention.
“Hello there Sirius! I didn’t notice you there for a second. How have you been doing? I felt like it’s been forever since i saw you last?” Sirius suddenly felt guilty. He had been kind of ignoring Remus lately. It wasn’t to be mean or anything. He just couldn’t handle himself seeing Remus every day.
“Yeah it has been awhile,” said Sirius guiltily. Remus looked at him with a soft smile.
“Tonks had a meeting with some old friends today so i’m taking Teddy today. Teddy say hi to Sirius!” Remus said with his soft, calming voice. Teddy only babbled to Sirius with his cute voice.
“How have you and your wife been doing?” Sirius asked Remus. Sirius only asked to be polite. It seemed like to thing to say in these situations even if you really didn’t want to ask it.
“Wife?” Remus asked confused. “What wife?” Remus stared in confusion until something in his mind snapped. “Oh, you mean Tonks? She’s not my wife. She has a wife though…” Remus stopped talking when he saw the look Sirius was giving him. It was the kind of look someone gave when they misunderstood a situation entirely.
“Oh. She’s not your wife then? What about Teddy?” asked Sirius before looking horrified at the blatantly invasive question he just asked Remus. Remus only smiled and answered in his deep voice that was oddly charming.
“Tonks is just one of my really good friends. I wanted a kid but wasn’t in a relationship so she offered to be my surrogate. She is in her own relationship at the moment and she watches Teddy for me regularly.” Sirius only stared at Remus. He actually had a chance with him. The most amazing human on the planet.
Sirius decided to work up the nerves to ask Remus the questions he had been wanting to ask him for months. The questions that he thought were inappropriate to ask when he thought Remus was in a relationship.
“So are you in a relationship?” Sirius tried to ask nonchalantly. Remus, who caught on to what Sirius was doing, responded calmly.
“Yes, I am.” Sirius had never looked so relieved ever in his life.
“I’ve had a crush on you for months and really really want to date you. Would you go on a date with me?” Sirius asked.
Remus waited a few extra seconds before responding with a simple nod. They sat in there individual seats for an awkward minute before the train came to a stop. Remus got himself and Teddy off of their seats before turning to Sirius.
“You don’t want to be late right?” he asked. Sirius just stood up and followed Remus and Teddy off the train in silence. This day had already become the best day of his life.
