Chapter 1
Don't ever trust Them. The adults. They don't care about your well-being, where you live, if you die. And that was the first rule of the street.
"Hey!" the 13 year old known as Raven by most of his peers bent double as he ran through the streets, clutching his stolen prize. Jumping over a dog and sneering at the surprised gentleman, he used his 'Freak' abilities to 'pop' away back to Silver's hiding place.
" 'ven! Where were you?" The youngest of them, Worm, who was regarded as the 'baby' of the group as he was only 4, ran out of the cave to meet him. He held up a hand. "L-lemme get me breath back firs'," he panted, still bent double. "Yes, Raven. Where were you?" He looked and grimanced. Silver, the leader of the pack and the owner of the cave, dropped down from one of the trees, arms crossed. The grey and white hair that gave her her namesake made her frown look much more severe. "Uh..food?" he held up that plastic bag he had been holding under his arms. The smell of jerky made the other 6 come out, noses practically twitching. She sighed. "Get in. We can talk later after we've been fed,"
The cave was lit only by the large fire in the middle, which was almost constantly tended to by their resident pyromaniac, Flare. Silver spread out the loot, and whistled. "Geez, Raven. Where the fuck did you go?" The 7 strips of beef jerky, 2 loaves of bread, and bottled water lay there, in the dust. "Farmer's Market on th' 54th. You wouldn' believe how much they were sellin'," Raven grinned despite the fact that he was technically in trouble for leaving without telling Silver. She shook her head. "Alright. Flare gets first choice, for keepin' the fire. Raven gets second, because even though he broke the rules he got th' food, and Worm's third. I'll go next,"
