The water was still
The crickets were chirping
Noah was humming
what was he humming? He doesnt know but he was humming at least until he heard foot steps the crackle of a dry leaf the snap of a twig breaking the thump of shoes against dirt
Noah knew who it was, the same boy he fell in love with the same boy who found his bloated body
Every night cody went to the dock and sat in silence reading one of noahs book he had brought with him to the island
Nobody ever came with him they had tried once but all noah could hear was screaming, from then on it was always him and cody alone at the lake
Noah hadn't shown himself to cody he didnt want to scare the boy i mean who wouldnt get scared by someone they thought was dead coming up to them
And so like they did every night cody sat on the dock legs dangling as he read the book and noah sat under the water watching the way his beautiful technically ex boyfriend focus entirely on the words
That is until there was another snap of a twig and footsteps noah knew this wasnt one of the other cast members the steps were too heavy and sloppy nothing like a paranoid teens
Noah looks back at cody and saw the boy hadnt noticed the steps he hadnt moved an inch since noah was watching still focused on the story much to noahs delight and dismay
The killer finally emerged from the trees and was headed straight for cody holding what looked to be fishing line. His steps were long and he quickly got closer to the boy
Noah couldnt let cody die he needed to do something anything the boy needed to survive so noah did what he thought was best
Right as the murderer was about to attack the hazelnut boy noah leapt out of the water and grabbed ahold of codys hands shoving the book out of it and pulling him into the water
Cody screamed as he was pulled in expecting to have the same fate as noah drowned in the lake just like his self proclaimed soulmate
But when he opened his eyes he was met with noahs white lifeless ones staring past him holding him close to his chest above the water
He didnt know how to react his boyfriend was in front of him but.. he wasnt alive it was obvious
he seemed angry glaring at something on land and so cody turned his head to see what it might be
He froze seeing the killer on the dock right where he had just been sitting, staring at them in shock and what looked to be fear
Noah started humming
A different tune one only certain people could understand
It was loud enough for the entire island to hear dead or alive
Cody didnt know it neither did noah but somehow the latter knew exactly what it meant
Soon beautiful flowers started growing around the dock pink flowers with red spots on them cody watched as they quickly sprouted out of the ground seemingly spelling words
The killer looks down and saw what they wrote "listen"
"𝒻𝒾𝓃𝒹 𝓂𝓎 𝒶𝓇𝓂"
Cody couldnt hear what scared the man but he ran into the woods as fast as possible almost tripping over his large feet in the process
Once he was gone cody looks back at noah their eyes finally locking, the weight of the situation finally hit him as he immediately embraced the deceased boy tears falling from his eyes
"How... how are you here?" Noah hugged the boy back rubbing his back in a calming way before speaking in a scratchy but musical voice "i dont know but at least i could save you"
The two sat there holding each other for a few more minutes before cody had to head back promising to come back again the next night
Once he left noah sighed and turned to see sadie and ezekiel standing/scattered by the dock
The girl teasing him as the boy asked questions not understanding the situation noah of course ignored the girl and instead answered the questions knowing that even if he was dead homeschool deserved to learn right from wrong.
The next night cody returned holding a new book seeing as the other one was ruined previously
The two sat together as cody read aloud happy to finally be together again even if one was dead
The courpse and his bride enjoyed their night despite the difference between the two all that mattered was that noah had cody and cody had noah.
