Telling the Truth
Hermione was awoken by someone shaking her, which made her scream out, “Stupefy!” Sending her sister flying back. Once she opened her eyes and saw Genevieve on the floor, she got up and ran over, quickly stopping the bleeding by healing her. Gen was shaking, “I’m so sorry, I didn’t realize you’d act like that. I should’ve known. I know you went through a lot, but I didn’t realize.”
Hermione pulled her sister into a hug, “It’s not your fault. You didn’t know, plus you were the one who was bleeding.” They both stood up and Genevive smiled. “I missed seeing you in the morning, crazy hair and all.” Hermione laughed, grabbing her new wand and fixing her hair with a spell.
“Can you do mine?” Gen asked her older sister, who obliged, happy to do a simple beauty spell. Genevive, who got waves instead of curls, instantly had a crown braid and curly hair. “I love magic! I wish I had it.” Hermione looked at her little sister, who wasn’t that little, only being a year and a half younger than her, “If I could give you some of mine I would. I’m sorry.”
Genevieve brushed it off, “That’s okay. I’m still a princess, making me very special even without magic!” Soon after Gen left, Hermione got in a beautiful day dress that was a pale blue color, similar to the shade of the Beauxbatons uniform.
She looked at herself in her huge mirror in her bathroom and told herself, “Today’s the day, and everything will be just fine. They love me, they will understand.” She tucked a newspaper into her dress pocket, then apparated, not needing to take a portkey for international travel due to her royalty status, and arrived at 12 Grimmauld Place. Everyone in there ran when they heard her arrive, and were very excited to see her. The whole Order was there, but the first people who hugged her were her best friends Harry and Ron.
“Geez, Mione where’ve you been?” Ron asked while he ate toast. “Ron! Chew and then talk, it’s not proper to talk while eating.” Harry then repeated the question, “But really, where were you, Hermione? Why did Kingsley take you away?”
She cleared her throat, “Could I have everyone meet me in the kitchen?” She asked shakily, but everyone obliged. She slowly walked to the kitchen, unable to meet the faces of her friends. Once everyone was situated, Hermione took a deep breath and started talking, “Hello, everyone. I need to tell you something I’ve been keeping from you.”
Multiple people were trying to say things all at once, but Hermione, using a voice she had acquired in all her years of being a royal commanded the attention of the room again. “Quiet. You may speak after I have finished. Not during. Please respect me while I tell you this.” The whole room went quiet, everyone not used to the tone Hermione had been speaking in.
“I am Hermione. I am a muggleborn. I am a swotty know-it-all. I am the best friend of Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. I did help take down Voldemort. However, I am not a Granger.” There were gasps from almost everyone in the room. “I am Hermione, Princess of Denmark.” The room erupted into chatter, but Ronald Weasley’s voice was the loudest, “You’re joking right? You would have told us. You- you can’t be.”
Hermione took the newspaper out of her pocket and placed an engorgio charm on it. The title read, “Princess Hermione’s 16th Birthday Ball” picturing her in a beautiful gold ballgown. Everyone was speechless, but Ginny let out, “Hermione you look beautiful.”
“How did we not know?” Harry spoke out in disbelief. Hermione was about to speak, but Remus spoke first, “There was a notice-me-not charm on you, wasn’t there?” Hermione gave a slight nod saying, “Yes. Dumbledore put it on me before I arrived at school. The only people who knew were him, certain ministry members, and someone else.” Ron, practically red in the face, “Who’s the someone else? Are they here?”
People looked around the room when Fleur stepped forwards, “It is ze veela magic, and my family is very involved in ze world of politics. I recognized ‘er right away.” Hermione blushed, but kept talking, “Fleur kept my secret for me, thankfully.”
“Why was it a secret at all?” Fred asked. “What? If I were royalty I’d want people to know.” Sirius answered back, “Well I assume it’s for her safety. I assume she’s first in line for the throne, and that paints a target on her back. Imagine what the death eaters would’ve done knowing she’s royalty.” Hermione shot Sirius a smile then explained, “Yes. One day it will be me on the throne, and nobody could know.”
“But we could’ve kept the secret!” Ron shouted at her. Hermione, doing her best to stay level-headed said back, “Ron I’m sorry but I couldn’t take that chance.” He just stormed off and Harry ran after him to calm him down. Hermione broke down into tears and Molly ran straight to comfort her, “You’re still the same Hermione. Don’t worry about Ron, he’ll calm down eventually.”
Ginny, Fleur, and Luna all walked over with smiles on their faces. “It ez okay ‘ermione. Zey will come back to you.” Ginny laughed, “And if they don’t, I’ll beat them up.” Luna just hugged Hermione, “I’m glad all the nargles are finally gone.”
“Do you guys wanna come back with me? I’d love for you to meet my mom and sister.” The three girls nodded, “Where’s the portkey?” Ginny asked. Hermione chuckled, “I can apparate us. The rules get bent for international travel since I’m, uh, royalty.” Ginny’s mouth dropped, “That’s so cool!” The four girls linked arms, and right before Hermione apparated, she said with a bit of confidence, “Get ready to see something most people never get to see.” and apparated them away.
When they arrived, they were in Hermione’s bedroom, where Genevive was laying on the ginormous bed watching tv. “What in the world?” She screamed when the four girls suddenly appeared in the room. “Gen! What are you doing in my room?” She sat up, taking deep breaths, “You scared me, Hermione! I forgot you could teleport!” Hermione laughed at her sister, who clearly was in shock, but once she gathered herself, Genevive introduced herself. “Princess Genevive of Denmark, pleasure to meet you!”
One by one, the girls introduced themselves to Genevive. When they finished Gen said aloud, “Hermione which was was the really pretty one you talked about a lot?” Hermione’s eyes widened in fear and threw a pillow at her sister. “Gen, shut up,” Hermione said gritting her teeth.
After that awkward encounter, Hermione led them on a tour across the castle. “This place is bigger than Malfoy Manor, so I doubt I could show it all to you, but I’ll show you my favorite places.” They ended up in the ballroom dancing to muggle pop on the radio, when the queen walked in. Hermione wandlessly shut off the music, and whispered, “Curtsey, now!” The girls quickly curtsied and the queen smiled at them. “Friends of yours, I assume?” Hermione responded, “Yes mother. On the left is Luna Lovegood, then Ginny Weasley, then finally Fleur Delecour.”
The Queen smiled, happy to see her daughter happy for the first time in a while, but she wondered where the two male friends she was on the run with were. “I invite you all to dinner in 20 minutes. See you there.” Hermione turned to them, telling them all the rules of a royal dinner. “Sorry I didn’t realize she’d do that. Fleur, you’re probably prepared, but Ginny and Luna I apologize.” The two girls waved it off, and soon enough they headed to dinner.
