Chapter 8

Percy cursed as he rolled sideways to avoid being hit. He panted heavily, ducking behind a wall to avoid being hit by a boulder catapulted at him. He groaned and threw his head back in annoyance. This was only supposed to be a simple mission, but noooo.

He drew in a deep breath, then glanced quickly at where Grover and Annabeth were hiding.

Quickly they finally beat the 3 cyclops that had ambushed them out of the blue.

“Great, now that’s over we can finally complete this damn mission!” Percy all but ground out.

Annabeth rolled her eyes at his antics and drew out her compass.

“Luckily this person, whoever they are, only seems to live like 5 minutes away from here.”

“Are we sure that this is still a good idea? It could be a trap you know.” Grover pointed out as they began moving on, keeping eyes out for any other hidden monsters.

  • Skip a bit

“This is the place?!” Percy yelled out dumbfounded

“Yep, now let’s pray that this anonymous tip won’t get us killed.” Annabeth replied before knocking on the door, hearing a faint “coming” from inside the abode.

The trio stood together in a defensive stance. All the tip had said was that there was a person who had the means to help them.

The door creaked open, revealing a young female.

“Um, hello, may I help you?” She seemed cautious as she looked across them, scanning.

“I’m very sorry to bother you miss, but we received a…note…about someone who could possibly help us?”

The girl’s eyebrows raised and she bit her lip.

“Hmm, come in I guess and make yourselves comfortable.” With that she opened the door wider and gestured for them to come in.

Percy, Grover and Annabeth sat down on one of the many sofas in what they assumed was the living room. The girl hovered almost uncertainly in the presence of strangers.

“If you don’t mind, I’ll call the rest of my family in.” She drew in a deep breath then yelled sharply, startling the trio.

“Izarri, Luke, Ori, come here for a second please, we have guests!”

A minute later, two younger kids came running in, followed by a boy who seemed to be the eldest out of them with the way he carried himself.

“Oh, I forgot to introduce myself, I’m Raya, this is Izarri, Lukianos, and Raiden” She said, pointing to each person.

“Right well, we won’t take up too much of your time. We received this note with this address saying that there was someone here who could help us.” Explained Percy, trying to not give too much away, staying cautious. This could still be a trick, and the situation of this house was already putting him on edge, especially the people were very young and gave off vibes which put him off slightly. It hadn’t escaped any of their notice that these were just kids, just a little younger than them, or at least didn’t seem very old.

Raya reached forward to take the letter, holding it so the others could read it from where they were standing at her sides. She sighed and looked them over again.

“Am I right in assuming that you are somehow linked to the attacks for the past week or so?” She asked, raising an eyebrow. This threw them all a little off balance and they could only look at her in bewilderment as she sighed again.

“Don’t bother denying it, I’ll be able to tell if you’re lying anyways.” She stated nonchalantly, straightening her glasses.

“Wait so that means…you’re a kid!”

Raya’s eyes glinted dangerously.

“I may appear to be ‘just a kid’, but I assure you that my family and I have been through more than all of you put together.” She said as her voice went lower, dangerous.

Percy scoffed silently. Yeah right, as if!

“Anyway, I’ll assume that you have powers of some kind, yes?”

Annabeth stammered, “How did you-“

“Don’t worry, that’s Raya for you, she’s just trying to intimidate you” Drawled Izarri in a bored voice.

It was then that the trio noticed how uncomfortable it was. Their presence didn’t feel like a God’s or a monster’s. They couldn’t put their finger on it but it definitely wasn’t mortal, that’s for sure. It heavily unsettled them.

Just then, a door slam caused them to be up and alert, only calming when they saw that the others weren’t panicking.

“Guys I’m home” came a quiet voice (they had already been alerted to what was happening).

“Hey Karli, what took you so long?” asked Raiden, face relaxed and arms crossed.

“There was some type of monster in the streets.” They started, not noticing Percy, Annabeth and Grover throwing each other nervous looks.

“A monster?” questioned Luke sleepily from where he was leaning tiredly on Raiden.

“Yeah, it looked like a minotaur as well”, causing the looks to turn from nervous to panicked, only turning to confused when the voice called out cheerfully.

“Don’t worry though, I took care of it!”

The person then came into the room, face to face with the trio.

“You must be the guests. I’m Karlis Saxan Mage.” And held out a hand to shake.
