the night

They were all scared. The wards had fallen and everyone had noticed it.

The McKinnon family was in hiding. And right after they noticed that the wards fell, they prayed for their survive. Marlene pulled her little sister behind her back and lead her to the fire place. In the hope that she could bring at least her sister in safety. Although she didn't know where exactly she would be safe. Almost all her friends were hiding. The Potters, the Longbottoms and even Mary had to hide. Sirius and Remus weren't an option, because they were on a Order Mission. The only option left, was Dorcas' house, but she didn't know if she was even home at the moment .

Marlene casted a Patronus to Dorcas

My family is getting attacked. I have no idea how many or who, but I have five minutes left untill they'll come inside my house. Please don't come here but inform someone else and let them come. I'll send my sister to your place and i'll try to save my parents. Take care of her if something happens to me. I love you Dorc, please don't forget that

Marlene's head was going crazy. The fear of losing everything that she had, was really big. five minutes untill they'll come,Go to Dorcas, she'll keep you safe. I'll come to you as fast as i can. I promise. Maybe it was stupid to make such a big promise to her sister. She didn't know if she would make it out alive, but stayed optimistic for her sister's sake.

As long as you'll stay safe Marls. whispered Aster. Her eyes were burning. She tried not to let her tears run down her cheeks, but the little gril couldn't help it. She sobbed.

Marlene gave her crying sister a hug,go, she whisperd, putting some floo ashes in her tiny hands,i'll see you later As.

Aster cried silent tears. throwing the floo ashes down in the fire place were she was standing Dorcas' houseshe said and before Marlene knew it, her sister was safe. Her parents were upstairs. She cried silent tears. For minutes, she had to find a hiding place and make a plan in order to survive.

She hid in the living room, behind one of the curtains. Making sure that she couldn't be seen from outside. If the attacker would be smart, they'd go upstairs first. The stairs were in front of the door, wich made it the most logical way to go to for the attacker.

Mufliato Marlene casted a silencing charm so she'd be able to cast a patronus if it was necessary, and started to make a plan. When the attacker was done upstairs and went down stairs, she'd try to scare the shit out of him. Three minutes

The minutes flew by. Remembering the good time she had with her friends at Hogwarts. The time she'd spent with the love of her life, Dorcas was really dear to her. They loved each other. It was one of the many reasons why she trusted her to keep Aster safe.

It was time. Time to die. Well hopefully not but she turned form optimistic for her sister, to pesimistic. You could tell that she was scared.
Scared to lose her parents. Who were waiting upstainrs for their death.
And Marlene, Marlene couldn't do anything about it. There was no possible way, that she'd be able to safe her parents from their death. The door fell out of it's frame. She could hear footsteps. It was like a horror movie, knowing that there was someone who would attack your house, only to kill your family. The stairs were cracking. But she somehow remained silent, scared to make a sound.

In some way, Marlene was relieved. The footsteps belonged to only one person.
The house was big. It was realy easy to get lost. So only if you knew the place really well, what Marlene obviously did, you could take 'secret routes' to get somewhere faster. It was obvious that the attacker, who would be Peter Pettigrew, didn't know how to get at some of the places in the big house. It took a long time for him to even find Marlene's parents.

She heard screams. Screams from pain. She was sure that they were under the cruciatus curse. From what she had heard, She knew it was really painful. Luckily for her, no one had ever used it on her, nor had she ever witnessed it. This was the first time and she was scared. She had only heard the few stories from her friend, Sirius Black, after he ran away from his family. His mother used the curse on him right after his ninth birthday, only because he asked why he couldn't play with the children that lived in the neighborhood. He had gotten used to the pain, when he was twelve. When she heard it, she was angry. Angry at his family for abusing their son in such a brutal way.
When she heard her parents scream, she thought about Sirius. How he had to gow trough that pain every now and then when he didn't do what he was told. How she would probably never see him again.
Her mind also drifted off to Dorcas. Her lovely girlfriend since she was sixteen and now at twenty-one and scared for that certain person and ofcourse her sister and her parents whom were being tortured.

The screams from her parents faided away. It was silent for two seconds and then she heard two thuds. It took a while for her to realise what had happend. For her to realise that her parents were dead. Tears were streaming down her cheeks. She remaind silent, not wanting to let the murderer now where she was hiding.
It was weird. She never had a great relationship with her parents. They always prefered Aster. The young litle gril who was always perfect.
But that did not mean that she didn't love her parents.

Marlene, I'm so sorry, I don't want this either, but otherwise he'd kill me. As if life couldn't be better. Really that man was pathetic. Fucking Peter Pettigrew. Yes, he was speaking the truth. He was forced to kill the McKinnons. He had to do it to prove himself to the Dark Lord. To prove that he was a worthy man. Not that she knew that.

It was the final straw to pull her out of her thoughts, back into the reality. She was thinking about a lot. Her family and all the people that she had lost only because of a stupid war that wasn't their's to fight. It wasn't normal for people to fight in a war, and certainly not if you're only twenty-one. It looked like her whole friend group didn't understand that. Now at the point of losing everything that she had built up in twenty-one years and realising that, the pathetic man who once was her friend and attacked her family, was named Peter Pettigrew. It was sad. She rememberd how in their fifth year, they had to talk to Minnie McG for their further career after Hogwarts, the whole friendgroup had chosen to fight with dumbledore in the upcoming war. If they hadn't chosen that option, their friendgroup would still be existing in a healthy way.
She could hear that he was walking downstairs again, slower than when he went up. Probably because he was already scared of what Marlene would do to him. But the footsteps went to the oppiste side of the house. She casted a patronus to Mad-eye Moody

I'm getting attacked. There is only one. The mole is Peter Fucking Pettigrew. My parents are dead. I took care of my sister, She's at Dorcas'. I'm alone with him, but I don't know what he's going to do. Please send some help. Place is Golden Lane 15.

'Constant vigilance,' it were the two words Moody always liked to say. It were also the two only words going trough Marlene's head. She was listening to Peter's footsteps and had to remain silent. Only one sound was already enough to get her killed.
She was in the living room, still hiding behind the curtains. The footsteps were getting closer. The room was dark. Two minutes ago, she had shut down the lights. He entered the room. He freaked out, Marlene disarmed him and it made him terrified.

He was wondering were he was. Marlene had blindfolded him. It made him scared, because Peter didn't want to die. Marls... Marlene i-is that y-you? He was stuttering. Marlene knew that he was scared and frankly, she was enjoying it.

Why in the name of Morgana would want to fucking betray all of us? Just tell me why
She was shouting out of anger, Peter knew it and he was thinking. Thinking about reasons why he betrayed all his friends. He knew why. He didn't want to die, so going to the winning side washis game plan. But like always he didn't think it trough. It was stupid, he felt stupid. He had James, Sirius, Remus even the girls and suddenly they were all gone. It was silent for a long time, well it felt like a long time. And Marlene broke the silence.
After all the things that we have done for YOU. All the times that I helped YOU with YOUR homework. All the times James and Sirius were there to help YOU. To scold out the people who jinxed YOU. you still think it's a great idea to betray US? What the FUCK is WRON with you Peter? We all helped YOU, and you still THINK that you could betray US, your FRIENDS?! That's pathetic Peter, even for YOU! And not even being able to tell ME, out of all our friends, why you thought that you could betray us. What do you think that James will do when he hears about THIS?

Oh what was Marlene done with Peter. He was out of words, knowing what he wanted to say, but not able to find the right words for it.
James was his role model. He always looked up to him. Now thinking about it Marlene was right. James would be really disappointed in Peter. He was after all the secret keeper from James and his family

He felt sorry for the little boy that went to Hogwarts with his friends. He regretted the choices that he had made, he regretted that he went to Voldemort and that he had sold his best friend's family out.
I don't want to do this either Marlene, but I have to. I don't want to die.
Marlene was right. Peter Pettigrew was a coward who only followed the side that is winning. someone who doesn't care about his friends or family, as long as he'd stay alive.

You know Peter, the more and more you're trying to say, the more I get the idea that you don't care about your friends or worse, your family. and that's really selfish you know.
She was trying to take her time. The only reason that she hadn't cursed him yet, was because she wanted to wait for order members to arrive and help her out of the mess that she currently was in and so Peter could be send to Azkaban for murdering two squibs, attempted murder, being a death eather and for the use of unforgivables. Marlene knew hat she was supposed to keep talking for as long as possible, but she didn't know what to say anymore. It would've been helpless to keep repeating that Peter was a coward and he'd call her stupid for repeating the same thing over and over again. So being the Gryffindor that she was, she removed the blindfold from his head. Peter could see again. And frankly, it frightened him. The room was still dark and he didn't know where exactly Marlene was, but he was happy for having his sight back.

You could try to kill me, but deep down you know that you're not able to do that. You're to scared and you bloody well know that. But for a change to stay alive for Mighty Moldy Voldy, try it atleast. Right after she said those words, she regretted them immediately. She just gave him a chance to kill her. But keeping her to her own words, she tossed him his wand. Thud He heard a sound. She probably trew him his wand. He picked it up and Marlene was mentally face palming her head.

The two started duelling and although Marlene was a very experienced duelest, she was struggeling a little. Not that Peter was exactly winning, but he also was not losing. She casted a lot of spells that didn't take too much energy but were effective enough to scare him. Because she knew perfectly well that it could take up to a hour before one of the Order of the Phoenix members arrived to help her out. She didn't even know if she could kill him. and fair enough, she wanted him to suffer. He made her parents lose their lives, so he had to pay for that in one way or another. And dying was not the right plan for that. Plus he had the audacity to betray their friends.
He deserved to suffer
It felt like hours, although it were just ten minutes, but finaly there was someone to help her out. It were the Prewett twins, Fabian and Gideon Prewett.

When the Order of the Phoenix still consisted of many people, the Marauders liked to pull pranks with the Twins on the adults, like Moody, Elphinstone Dodge Dedalus Diggle and Benjy Fenwick. Some liked them more than the others and could laugh about some of them. Like when they made Moody's wooden leg turn in another colour every time he said Constat Vigilance, Or when the made Elphias Dodge's hat vanish once in every ten minutes during an Order Meeting. They liked it, and more important, they could laugh about it. But Lily was always the one to lecutere the six 'boys' because of how immature they were. After two times she stopeed, because after all, they were the ones who made everyone laugh even in the darkest times.

Marlene made sure that Peter didn't face the twins, but her instead. So that the twins could take him from behind. And that was exactly the thing that happend. Peter didn't notice it, as he was bussy foccusing on Marlene. Who had just shot him a Stunner spell. He did dodge it though. But both Fabian and Gideon shot him a full body bind curse from behind and Peter got hit. He fell down on the floor, and Marlene broke out in tears. She realised that she had lost her parents. Marls, are you okay? Fabian asked. Honestly I'm not sure how to answer that, I just want to see As she said whilst crying with a forced smile on her face. She pulled herself together, What are we exactly going to do with the Rat?
Oh, don't worry about that dear. We already discussed with Moody what we got to do.
