Mr Detective

He wakes up, unsure of what had woken him. He checks the time, only to see it’s 4 pm. Wow, he’d slept through most of the day already… He didn’t think he was that tired….

For once, his head isn’t killing him. He’s able to actually think again, and it’s now where he’s starting to realize that maybe this isn’t normal… Perhaps he should tell someone about this.

Despite the splitting headache finally being gone, it still felt like something was eating away at his abdomen… Was there something that helped with stomach aches? He heard vaguely that ginger helped with stomach pain….

…..

On second thought, maybe he shouldn’t eat any ginger. It feels wrong, considering there was a toon named that.

There’s another knock at the door. ..Ooooh that’s what woke him up….

He attempts to smooth out the messy hair he had (For some reason his swirl worked like hair. He wishes the Handles would’ve just made it normal metal….). He was… Embarrassed to be in such a simple sleep outfit this late into the day, until he thought about how many other toons wore their pajamas around the place. It was a rather common thing to do now that there was no more authority figure except for Dandy…

He goes over to the door, fully expecting to see the twins or Brightney there to invite him to their weekly book club meeting. Or maybe Toodles had somehow gotten away from Rodger and was going to ask him to do her makeup. Who knows, maybe it could be Vee there to just talk with him. Or maybe it was Boxten who… ..No, most likely not, actually. He hoped not after last night. He still doesn’t know if Boxten saw the crack or not. He hoped it was dark enough that the toon hadn’t noticed in that lighting…

Oh, right. The crack. He leaves the door he was about to open, quickly going over to his vanity desk and puts a filler in the crack before covering it with a light layer of makeup. The filler wasn’t permanent and there were other things he would much rather do (Filler always felt strange), but this had to be a very quick thing so the person at the door wouldn’t wait forever. While he was doing that, he started to notice his yellow (or as he liked to call it - gold [it would barely be considered a golden color]) paint chipping away to reveal the silver underneath (An actual silver color - unlike the ‘gold’). The silver was nice, but he preferred the ‘golden’ color. …He would have to redo the paint along with the glass it seems.

Guess this was just a rough week for his looks.

He heads back over to the door, opening it before the (probably getting impatient) Toon could knock again. He had been expecting many toons… But none of them were who was at the door. Instead, he was met face-to-face with Rodger. Wasn’t he here yesterday? Why was he here again?

“Rodger..! What a…. Pleasant surprise…!”

…This was the last toon he wanted to see right now. Clearly Glisten was acting out of the ordinary, and here was a toon literally made for spotting unusual things. This was a sticky situation he’d much rather not have to maneuver through right now.. He could only hope that another toon would show up. If he had an excuse again for why he couldn’t/didn’t want to talk, he’d get suspicious and start investigating more if he wasn’t already suspicious…! Now he wishes it was Boxten… At least with Boxten he could gaslight him into thinking it was a trick of the light…

They both just stare at each other for a long moment, Glisten waiting for Rodger to say something, and Rodger not realizing that Glisten was waiting for him to say something. Instead, Rodger was observing. Glisten was acting odd. And on top of that, he looked like he just woke up. So late into the day? He could understand sleeping in, but this was strange for Glisten. It was also just weird seeing Glisten in such a light amount of makeup. He looked a bit odd as well, but the changes he thinks he sees are so minuscule that he could just be imagining it because of paranoia.

“So uh…. What exactly are you doing here?”

Oh. Glisten had been… Waiting for him to say something. Whoops.

“Ah, right. I was just here to check in on you. You seemed… Different yesterday and I wanted to make sure that you were okay”

“Yeah, I’m ok, I just had a headache and was kind of tired..!”

…He responded a bit too fast for Rodger’s liking. He seemed nervous about the topic being brought up… And ‘kind of tired’ isn’t sleeping until 4 pm. Not for Glisten, anyway. There was something wrong here, and he was going to find out.

“It seemed like it was more than ‘Just a headache’, Glisten.”

…Shit. Rodger was onto him. Glisten knew that he would try to investigate this. Could he somehow diverge from the conversation’s current topic? No, he would likely catch on to what he was trying to do. Could he say he had something to do…? He could, actually - Glisten was often busy. And he did want to hang out with Vee or RnD some… ..Crap, did he never ask either of them? Surely Vee wouldn’t mind him just dropping by unannounced…. ..It wouldn’t be the first time he’s done something like that (Though she has told him in the past to stop doing so….). She would understand. Probably. Hopefully. Maybe not. Probably not. It’ll be fine! ..Totally...!

“..Look, as much as I would love to talk right now, I got plans with another toon and I really gotta get going……”

“Glisten-”

…And there he goes, teleporting away to whoever Glisten ‘had plans with’. He had a feeling he didn’t actually have plans with anyone and he was just saying that as an excuse. If only he knew what Toon Glisten was supposed to be with so he could actually fact-check that or see if Glisten was lying to him or not. The fact that it seemed like he was dodging the topic concerned him….

But he couldn’t stay here all day.

He had other things he needed to do, and he needed to get back to Toodles.

He could only hope that Glisten would be ok…
