Back to Class
Chapter 10
Severus walked to the front of the classroom and started his lecture by saying "Potions is a unique subject that most of you will take for granted and will never fully grasp the capacity of its greatness. But the select few of you will excel in this class and understand all the good potions bring to the wizarding world." He looked over at Draco during the last part, and Draco gave his godfather a small smile.
Severus's attention was then turned towards another direction. Draco glanced to see what he was looking at and saw Potter not paying attention to a word the Professor was saying. Potter instead was writing on a sheet of paper quickly, and when he finally realized Severus was talking directly at him, he looked up embarrassed.
"Looks like you're our new celebrity in the school Mr. Potter. Make sure to pay attention from now on." Severus said and turned his attention back to the class. "Now does anyone know what potion is formed when powdered root of asphodel is added to an infusion of wormwood?" He asked and looked around the room at everyone. Granger's hand shot up immediately, but he paid no mind to her. He turned towards Draco and said "Draco?" asking him to answer his question.
"You would get The Draught of the Living Dead, a powerful sleeping potion." Draco said like it was the most common knowledge in the world.
"Well done, five points to Gryffindor." Severus said and gave his godson a subtle look of approval.
Severus went on with telling the class about what to expect and asking more questions that very few knew. The class ended shortly after the lecture had finished, and everyone started to pack up their stuff and leave.
"Draco, a moment please?" Severus asked. Draco nodded and looked towards Neville and the rest of his friends. "You guys go ahead to lunch, I'll meet you there." he reassured. They hesitated but left without questioning, and Draco trusted them to not mess with Neville and make him feel welcomed. He looked back at them and saw Blaise and Neville already starting a conversation.
"I won't keep you for long, but I just wanted to make sure you were okay after that letter your father sent you this morning." Severus said with a concerned look.
"He's not my father anymore. He made that very clear, and I'm fine. I just didn't like everyone staring at me and hearing I was just disowned. That was the whole point of sending a howler in the first place, to humiliate me in front of the entire school," Draco said.
Severus didn't look convinced but said "You should get back to The Great Hall now and meet me after dinner in my study. We'll talk more then."
Draco nodded and took the note from his godfather. He grabbed his stuff and headed out the door to The Great Hall. He was in no rush to get there quickly and while walking observed his surroundings. He looked at all the paintings and pictures on the walls that he never noticed before. He had gone to this school for five years before he was sent back in time, yet there were so many details that he never took the time to remember. He let his memory guide him the rest of the way as his eyes focused on the walls around him. Soon he was in front of the doors of the Great Hall and was walking down the rows of tables. He saw Neville sitting with Potter, Weasley, and the rest of their dorm mates. He took a seat next to Neville, and listened to the conversation they were having.
"Neville, is that a remembrall?" Dean asked. Neville nodded and said, "Yeah my grandma sent it."
"Seems like you've forgotten something, Nev." Draco pointed out when a red smoke filled the ball. "That's the thing, I can't remember what I forgot." Neville said.
"Hey Draco," Weasley said. Here we go again Draco thought. "That was bloody awesome that you got Gryffindor points during potions today. Snape never gives points to Gryffindors."
That surprised Draco. Just this morning Weasley was a git and now he was complimenting him. Everyone had been acting differently today. What has changed he thought and then remembered to reply to Weasley.
"Thanks" Draco said simply and gave him a small smile.
Weasley then turned his attention towards Potter, and they started looking at an article in the Daily Prophet. He would have to remember to look at the article himself, but lunch was over, and they all headed out to The Grounds for flying lessons.
Draco and the rest of the students all lined up beside a broom as Madam Hooch started to speak "Now everyone stick out your right hand and say Up."
"Up" Draco said with everyone else. His broom went to his hand immediately along with Potter's while Weasley's hit him in the head before its way to his hand. That caused Draco to smile and Potter to laugh, to which Weasley lightly replied, “Shut up Harry.” Once everyone had their broom in hand, Madam Hooch said, "Everyone, mount your broom and grip it tight." Everyone did so. "Now on the count of three I want you all to slowly kick off the ground. One, Two, Mr. Longbottom I said on the count of three." Madam Hooch said as Neville rose higher and higher from the ground. Neville had lost control of his broom, and after being hooked on a statue, crashed to the ground. Draco ran over to Neville, and Madam Hooch checked him over. She held up his wrist and said "You have broken wrist Mr. Longbottom. I'll have to take you to the Hospital Wing. If I see one broom off the ground, detention for everyone." and her and Neville left, slowly walking inside.
Draco looked around and remembered what had happened the last time. He had taken Neville's remembrall and fought with Potter to get it. That ended up with Potter on the Quidditch team. Draco looked around to find a way to make that happen again. He turned towards Blaise and said, "I need you to pick up Neville's remembrall and toss it back and forth with me." Blaise looked at him confused. "Just do it ok" Blaise agreed and walked over and grabbed the remembrall and said, "Hey Draco, catch" and threw the ball at Draco.
Draco caught it and they started to throw it back and forth a couple of times when Potter spoke up and said, "Stop that, you might break it." Draco smirked knowing his plan worked and said, "If you want us to stop so badly why don't you come get it yourself." He mounted his broom and started to fly up. Seconds later Potter was right behind him. Draco flew faster and made sharp turns with Potter right behind him. Draco hadn't flown in forever. He forgot how much flying made him feel free. He felt as if all the weight on his shoulders went away as he soared in the sky. "Give it back Draco" Potter shouted, and Draco stopped suddenly and turn to face Potter. "Ok then, have it your way." Draco said and threw the ball in a different direction. Potter took a nosedive down and raced to catch up with the ball. He reached his hand out and caught the remembrall. They both landed on the ground and the Gryffindors surrounded Potter and cheered at his victory. Blaise walked over to Draco and asked, "What was that all about?" 'Draco looked at him and said, "It will make sense later." Blaise just nodded confused and walked back over to Pansy and Theo.
The cheering stopped, and everyone looked over to see Professor McGonagall walking towards them. "Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy!" she shouted. The two looked over at each other nervously as McGonagall continued. "Follow me,” and at that moment Draco began to be consumed with anxiety.
