Chapter 2
Unknown Location
November 1, 24:01
Dried up leaves scattered the area, as Minerva walked through the street. Once she reached an old run-down cottage, she opened the gate, covering Estelle up with the blanket and hugging her to her chest. Minerva had already called her friend before, asking him to meet her here. Sure enough, she saw a faint silhouette of a man that could only be him. The shadow turned around before walking towards the woman and child.
“Minerva McGonagall, it’s always a pleasure,” the man warmly said, greeting her like she was an old friend.
“The pleasure is all mine, Kent Nelson. I’m sure you’ve heard the news?”
Nelson sighed sadly before nodding. “I suppose Albus would want to use the girl as his pawn,” he said dejectedly. Minerva nodded slightly before holding out the bundle in her hands. Nelson’s eyes widened as he took the child in his arms.
“You- you took the child.”
“The ‘child’s’ name is Estelle Potter and Albus had her put in an abusive household,” Minerva explained. Nelson’s eyes narrowed before turning to her. “And what do we do with Estelle now?”
“I was hoping you would have someone that could take her in,” Minerva at least had the decency to sound a little sheepish. Nelson let out a deep booming laugh before nodding. “I’ll go call her,” he nodded, before going to the corner to call whoever ‘her’ was.
While Minerva patiently waited, Estelle began to stir. She rubbed at her eyes while Minerva patted her back. Looking around, the little girl tried to pinpoint where exactly she was. She couldn’t see her mother or father, or even her uncles. Feeling someone pat her back, Estelle met a familiar face.
“Mi’ie!” At least there was someone she knew. Minerva smiled as tears pricked her eyes, remembering the group of students that used to call her that.
Just then, Nelson walked towards both of them, waiting next to his old friend. He smiled slightly at the now awake baby and waved. The child, ‘Estelle,’ his mind provided, giggled and babbled happily.
“So, who have you called?” McGonagall questioned.
“Do not worry, I called upon someone who is more than capable of helping,” he said.
As if on cue, a shadow blocked the moon and descended down towards the three. “Nelson?” the figure asked, and Nelson smiled and nodded.
“Thank you for coming on such a short notice, Diana.” The Amazon nodded before noticing the old woman and bundle of pink blankets in her arms. The bundle moved and the face of a baby was uncovered.
“What do you need me for?” Diana asked, looking at Estelle. As if sensing her new mother was around, she looked in Diana’s direction. Diana almost cooed at the smile she received. The baby gurgled and lifted her hands up, asking Diana to lift her. Upon doing that, Diana saw the angry red mark that marred her skin.
Pulling the child towards her, she directed her question towards the two other people present. “Who did this to the child?” she growled darkly.
Minerva sighed. “It is best that I explain this. I ask for you to not interrupt and ask your questions at the end. There is a world that secretly co-exists among the mortal world. We call it the Wizarding World. I myself am a witch.” She paused to allow Diana to process the information. Diana nodded at the old Professor, asking her to continue. “Our world is divided into 3 sections: The purebloods who have only pure blood flowing through their veins, the halfbloods, who are the result of two halfbloods or a pureblood and muggleborn or a pureblood and a halfblood, and finally we have the muggleborns who are the result of two muggles — no magic folks — and has magic.”
“For the last eleven years we have been at war with a group of people who believe that only people with pure blood are worthy of magic. They call themselves Death Eaters, while their leader calls himself Lord Voldemort.”
“Today, he for some reason decided to target the Potters, killing both the adults and trying to kill Estelle,” Minerva motioned the baby in Diana’s grasp, while she gasped in horror. Who would try and harm an innocent baby?
“But for some reason, the spell backfired, hitting Voldemort in the process. He disappeared without a trace while Estelle escaped with only the scar on her hand,” Minerva finished her story.
“Albus Dumbledore, the Headmaster of a wizarding school called Hogwarts, is a manipulative old goat and wanted to place Estelle in an abusive household,” Nelson explained. Diana clenched her fist.
“People all over Britain are praising her, calling her the Girl-Who-Lived and such. There are still some Death-Eaters we need to capture who would want to avenge their master so she needs to be sheltered and trained. We want her to be safe and loved but also trained, something Albus doesn’t want.”
“And you called me because…?” Diana questioned.
“There is no one other than me and Minerva, who can understand magic better than you can,” Nelson said. Diana nodded, that made sense seeing as she was originally sculpted from clay with a trickle of her mother’s blood and the power of the Olympian Gods as a form of magic.
“If I do say yes, what should I tell her?” Diana asked. “Whatever you wish to. She must be prepared for when she needs to fight the Dark lord,” Minerva said.
“You said there was a magic school?”
“Yes, multiple in fact. There is one in America called Ilvermorny, it is quite good,” Minerva nodded.
“And I give you my word that even though I have retired from my position as Doctor Fate, I will help you out whenever you need,” Nelson said.
Diana hesitated. With her superhero duties, would she be able to raise a child? Would she be able to provide for her? She paused to think, but looking at the hazel eyes that shed innocence and faith, all aimed at her, Diana melted.
“I will gladly take care of her,” she stated, smiling warmly at the child in her arms. Both Nelson and McGonagall sagged in visible relief. “It may take some explaining to the other Amazons but she will be trained and under our protection for as long as she needs. May I blood adopt her?”
“Do what you must Diana. Afterall, she is now your child,” Nelson said, before walking off. “I must be off now. I shall see you soon Diana. And Minerva, we must meet for tea sometime.”
Minerva nodded and waved before stating she needs to be at Hogwarts before Albus becomes suspicious. “Thank you, my dear,” she whispered to Diana before placing a small kiss on Estelle’s forehead and vanishing with a loud crack.
---
Minerva sneaked back into Hogwarts in cat form, before looking through the book of future students. Estelle Potter began to disappear. Minerva smiled softly, yes she was in good hands now.
----
True to her words, it took a lot of convincing and even more explaining to her mother, but on the 1st of November, Estelle Potter was officially half Amazonian.
A basin full of water was placed in the middle of the room. Diana placed little Estelle, adorned in her new white robes embroidered with gold that were way too big for her, in the water. She giggled and squirming, splashing the still-water.
Standing above her was Hippolyta. She smiled at her new granddaughter, a child of magic and now — a half-Amazonian.
Addressing the sea of Amazons gathered below the podium, Hippolyta gathered her grandchild in her arms, covering her up in a towel, before picking up a dagger.
“We thank the Gods for gracing us with a new friend, warrior and sister. We pray that they will help us guide her and protect her through her journey through life. And that they smile upon my Diana as she fills her new role as a mother.”
Hippolyta lightly cut her on her arm, hushing the child in her arms when she whimpered, before passing it to Diana who cut two of her fingers without flinching. She stepped towards her daughter-to-be and firmly pressed her bleeding fingers to her arm.
“United by blood, heart and soul; we welcome you Estelle to the sisterhood of the Amazons. You will always have a home here, for you are one of us!”
The Amazons cheered as a bright light encased Estelle arm, the bleeding wound sealing without even a scar. Diana beamed in pride and picked up her new daughter, pressing her lips to her forehead as her fellow sisters celebrated.
Estelle babbled happily, reaching up to her mother and grabbing her nose. Her hazel eyes littered with flecks of blue lit up in happiness as mother and daughter wore matching smiles.
