CHAPTER 3

AN OPEN DOOR

Days passed and time flew. Time never waited for the whims of people. Things went as it did every year and days blended into each other as though each was one and the same. And it was for the most part. Afterall, they had a routine and a timetable that was planned out for them. And they had no other choice but to follow it every single day.

Obviously, there were slight differences to each day. Perhaps it could be the Slytherins waking up to find out their dorms were turned golden and scarlet red. Or maybe it was the patrol schedule being changed. Anywho, it didn't end up making such a huge difference in their lives.

After a mundane dinner at the end of the day, everyone made their way back to their respective common rooms. The prefects were told that they had to inform everyone to check the notice boards in their common rooms after dinner. Upon Eddy's arrival, people were already crowded around the notice board. Having no desire to push through sweaty bodies to read what the notice said, she grabbed a book from the shelves and snuggled up on one of the sofas and began to delve into the world it held inside.

A few minutes, okay, hours later, Eddy noticed that the crowd had cleared out. She got up and walked to the notice board. The notice read

Addition Of Subjects

After a lot of thought and discussion, it has been decided that we shall be adding two more subjects into the Hogwarts curriculum. This decision has been approved by the entire Board of Governors. The first subject, Wizarding Studies, shall be compulsory for all years (even for NEWTS, although it is not necessary to take the exam for the same). The other subject, Muggle Studies, shall be an optional class for third years and above. These classes shall begin from next week. Third years and above who wish to take Muggle Studies should inform their Heads of House latest by the end of this week. The necessary textbooks can be ordered from Flourish and Blotts. The orders shall arrive approximately two days after the order has been placed. An overview of the subjects is given below

1) Wizarding Studies

This subject goes over traditional wizarding customs and etiquettes at the beginning and will expand over the different wizarding communities and its expansion at the basic level which shall provide a foundation for the understanding of the wizarding world. After the class shall proceed into the current state of the wizarding world, different careers to pursue etc. that shall help in the day-to-day lives of wizards. The NEWT years shall be learning the origins of magic in Great Britain and other major parts of the world, the boundaries of magic and how magic shows itself in humans.

2) Muggle Studies

It shall start with the different appliances Muggles use in place of magic and how they work. Then...................................................... (I'm sorry I don't want to explain my existance. Might do it later).

The materials required are :

4)Home Life and Social Life of British Muggles by Wilhem Wigworthy [Muggle Studies]

5)The Magic of Muggles by Doofie Dane [Muggle Studies]

Eddy's face broke out into a smile as soon as she finished reading it. No offense to Muggles, but the fact that she could learn about her own history and origins without feeling that she too would die and turn into a ghost was exciting. She decided she would inform Professor Slughorn first thing in the morning.

A week later at breakfast, Eddy and friends were discussing the unexpected addition. But as expected, most Slytherins supported the addition of Wizarding Studies and were disgusted at the idea that studying about Muggles was even a relevant choice. It didn't make sense that so many of these pureblood supremacists were in Slytherins. A lot of them were just about the stupidest people she had ever met. And she used to live with Fabian and Gideon.

A lot of them were academically smart but you cannot call people who simply hate on people for existing and then proceed to follow a person who believes the exact same who is scared of the literal one thing that is certain in life and his names himself Voldemort, which literally highlights his fear and then decides no one but himself can refer to him using that name. Either that was an inside joke, or he was just an egotistical insecure maniac with serious issues (excluding what were previously stated). Admittedly, he wasn't that stupid. Cunningness and manipulativeness had to be in there somewhere if he had managed to get such a large force behind him. But of course, he has to use it for the most senseless ideals that exist. Isn't he just like the Muggles? It's just with the supposed 'purity' of blood instead of skin color?

Rabastan was commenting on Rodulphus attempting to join the Board of Governors and cease Muggle Studies. Or change it to only teaching on the atrocities Muggles had committed to wizards and witches. Hedone had heard from her mom that Lucius is about to join the board so she expected some resistance anyway.

"Eddy, what do you think?" asked Sev.

'Huh?" replied Hedone "Oh that. Uh, I'm gonna take Wizarding Studies. Probably will kill my schedule but oh well. I'm not taking Muggle Studies. I don't intend on living in the Muggle world anyways and if I do end up doing that... Eh, I have Arthur. I can just visit Molly. I swear to God there are only two types of books in that house. 'Molly' books that are either household shit or gossip magazines and 'Arthur' books which is only Muggles, Muggles and more Muggles. They are clever though. Living without magic sounds like a nightmare to me."

"Second that" mumbled Freya with a mouth full of scones.

"Don't talk with your mouth open. And getting that much cream on your face is disgusting and it ought to be illegal" expressed Rabastan with disgust.

"Pity you fell for this disgusting person, isn't it?" teased Freya.

Severus and Hedone shared a look of panic, got up and took off in a hurry as they did not want to watch the flirty exchanges of the couple. Seeing the couple make teasing yet sweet comments was the last thing the pair needed this morning.

Sev and Eddy walked off, each wanting to get to their classes on time, one because he found it important and the other to look at someone with an air of superiority. They say opposites attract. For magnets anyway. Okay, for people as well. Sometimes. Here's one such case. Severus and Hedone. They met on Eddy's first day (except Freya. Chicks before dicks). They for an unknown reason to the Hogwarts population, hit it off and became steady friends. It is only a rumor that Severus is a friendless, old bat that hates shampoo and is in love with Lily Evans. These rumors are fuelled by Hedone purely for the purpose of teasing him. Clarification : Only Eddy, Freya, Stan and Alice are allowed to tease him. Anyone else does and... pray for them.

In the middle of Eddy pestering Sev about her borrowing his notes, Severus sighed in relief and breathed out "Hey! This is your Wizarding Studies class. Woo! Have fun, okay. Don't bother me, midget."

"Hey! I'M 5 '8. I AM NO MIDGET!" she screamed in response as he walked off. She opened the door to the classroom, stopped in her tracks and thought to herself "Well, this is not who I expected."
