Note
A big thank you goes to my sisters who encouraged me to keep writing and are the biggest fans of this story. This is my very first idea for a fic and I began writing last year in April. Over one year and a half, I wanted to write other stories, so I have let this story slide for a while. I’m glad, it’s finally finished and I’m proud of this work, it’s my baby. I hope you all enjoy reading. Disclaimer: I don't own the characters of this story. No copyright infringement is intended.

Friendly Public Outing

Since Harry’s little outburst, Hermione made it a point to not be too chummy with Malfoy whenever Harry was around. She didn’t speak that often about the Slytherin during mealtimes either. Instead, she was observing Harry like a hawk, waiting for a slip up to tell Harry ‘I told you so’.

Hermione was convinced, Harry was jealous because he liked Malfoy. Which, in Harrys humble opinion, was utter bullshit. He just wanted to get to know the blonde boy, which was totally normal considering he was going to marry him. It’s legitimate to want to get along with your fiancé, right?

And if Harry happened to stare a little too long at Malfoy’s lips when he spoke in their study sessions or his eyes traveled a little too low when he was walking behind Malfoy or wondered what it would feel like to intertwine his fingers with Malfoy’s long, elegant ones didn’t mean he had feelings for the Slytherin.

One fine morning Harry decided it was time to make their truce more publicly and today was the day. Of course, all for the sake of encouraging a display of house unity and certainly not because Harry wanted some alone time with the blonde Slytherin, okay, Hermione, shut up!

„Good morning, Draco“, Harry sauntered to the Slytherin table with a winning smile.

Startled, Draco looked up from his breakfast. Besides their weekly study dates in secluded areas of the library with their friends and civilised small talk when they were paired together in class, they usually ignored each other.

“Potter“, Draco greeted, having quickly collected his cool mask and pointedly ignoring the casual use of his first name.

“I was wondering, if you would be interested in playing a quick seekers match with me before class starts. The weather is formidable today and I’m craving a good challenge“, the black haired boy said with a cheeky grin well aware that the whole school was watching their conversation.

The Hogwarts students were a little on edge these days because nothing out of the ordinary had happened yet. It was simply too quiet. Definitely the calm before the storm. They were all anticipating some sort of great dispute with lots of hexes, and were ready to leave the Great Hall immediately to escape the dangerous showdown of the two rivals.

“I don’t know, Potter. I wanted to revise my notes before Transfiguration”, Draco replied.

“Oh, come on, Draco. Take a break, you always study. And we have a free period before that“, Harry whined.

Slowly realising the Gryffindors plan to officialize their amicable relationship the blonde gave in. He stood up with an exasperated sigh and said, “Fine. But don’t make this some sort of new morning routine.“

Beaming, Harry pulled Draco out of the hall, slinging his arm around the smaller boy’s shoulder. Rolling his eyes but not protesting against the body contact the blonde let himself be guided outside by his fiancé.

The two boys left the Great Hall in shock. Had the school rivals just wondered off arm in arm like they were friends for years? And they had talked cordial with another instead of yelling. Yes, they hadn’t started a fight this term yet. But that…that couldn’t be right…

“A christmas miracle!“ cried someone from the Hufflepuff table and excited chatter erupted in the hall until Professor McGonagall called everybody to quiet down and reminded them that it was still mid-October.
