Note
A big thank you goes to my sisters who encouraged me to keep writing and are the biggest fans of this story. This is my very first idea for a fic and I began writing last year in April. Over one year and a half, I wanted to write other stories, so I have let this story slide for a while. I’m glad, it’s finally finished and I’m proud of this work, it’s my baby. I hope you all enjoy reading. Disclaimer: I don't own the characters of this story. No copyright infringement is intended.

Train Thoughts

On September 1st Draco sat in his regular compartment and stared through the window at the passing scenery. He still had his father’s lectures ringing in his ears. The rest of the summer holidays, Lucius gave speeches about the greatness of Harry Potter and how lucky a boy Draco was for having the honour for making history. The houses Potter and Malfoy finally united.

When his father wasn’t rambling, he continued Draco’s training in the Dark Arts. The boy wouldn’t need it as a Death Eater anymore but those skills would be beneficial against the Dark Lord now.

In addition, the blonde received bridal training from his mother. Narcissa taught him cooking, ironing, and knitting which confused Draco more than a little. He wouldn’t need those skills for there existed house elves. Furthermore, those activities were very unmasculine and Draco would still be male after marriying Potter, thank you very much.

He remembered in horror when one evening his parents sat him down after dinner to have the talk. They explained very figurative how intercourse between two men worked. The blonde was a little offended that they assumed he would naturally be the bottom. But it made sense because pureblooded wizards were able to give birth. Harry Potter wasn’t a pureblood, but Draco was.

Then his mother explained the pregnancy process which made Draco nearly puke. After Narcissa’s descriptions he would rather adopt a squib or a muggle than going through the process himself. Draco shuddered in his seat. He had a week full of nightmares after that talk.

To take his mind off those topics Draco focused on his upcoming task. His engagement to Potter would be kept a secret so that You-know-Who wouldn’t come to question the Malfoys' loyalty or would demand for Potter to be handed over. Of course, the Order members and Potter’s friends knew. Draco was allowed to only tell his two best friends, Pansy Parkinson and Blaise Zabini.

While Lucius would spy for the Order and recruit allies in the ministry and from other Death Eaters, Draco would do the same in Slytherin house. In front of the whole school Potter and Draco would act friendly for the sake of interhouse unity. If the pupil populance saw those two leaving their rivalry behind and working together, others would be encouraged to do the same. The blonde Slytherin could vividly imagine the twinkle in Dumbledore’s old blue eyes at that thought. He was sure that the Hogwarts headmaster had his hands in the whole engagement thing. The old cahoot was all impassioned with concordance and harmony, ugh.

Pansy disrupted Draco’s musings as she took his hand and pressed a kiss on his cheek. “Don’t worry, darling, everything will be fine“, she gave his hand a reassuring squeeze. Draco gave her a little smile in return.

“Yeah, more than fine, I dare say. I can’t wait to see all the stupid faces when the Gryffindor Golden Boy and our Slytherin Ice Prince act all lovey dovey “, Blaise laughed.

“Well you’re face wasn’t any better when Draco told us about his engagement“, Pansy snorted. Blaise shrugged and grinned.

Draco chuckled lightly as he remembered the shocked expressions of his two best friends when he explained everything to them. He was very thankful to have them both. They kept up with his temper and his intellectual discourses in contrast to Crabbe and Goyle. The two boys were also good comrades but not cut from the same cloth like Draco.

Without Pansy and Blaise the blonde would’ve long gone crazy. Even now that the two were dating they were always there for him. Only for them he let his mask under which he hid all emotions completely slip which he didn’t even do in front of his parents.

“By the way, I’ve seen Theo when I got on the train. He looked furious“, Blaise informed his two fellow Slytherins. “You better keep an eye on him. I think he’s trouble.“

“Yeah, I suspected as much. When I broke up with him via owl he send me a howler in return“, Draco grimaced.

“Oh, he had it coming“, Pansy said. “Everybody knows he was just after the Malfoy prestige and money. And Draco was only interested in exploring a male body. Sooner or later they would have broken it off, anyways.“

“But Theo has a big ego. His pride is hurt because he got dumped instead of doing the dumping. I’m sure he’s going to try something to get back on you“, Blaise fretted. “I know you’re superior, Daco, but I want you to be prepared“, he added thoughtfully.

“You’re such a mother hen“, Pansy rolled her eyes at him but gave him a proud hug.

Blaise gave his girlfriend a squeeze and grinned evilly, “If anyone harms any of you they will never step a foot outside the hospital wing again.“

“Aw, I love you, too“, Draco snickered but meant it wholeheartedly.

“Anyway, what’s your better half up to?“ Pansy asked curiously. She would never tell Draco but she thought it absurdly romantic that he was betrothed to his nemesis. Potter was good looking and a lead figure. Draco was also handsome and very influential. The two most eligible bachelors paired up was so delicious it made Pansy drool. She was really eager to get to witness a first rate from-enemies-to-lovers love story.

Draco pulled a wry face. “Funny of you to think that he’s the better half. I’m perfect, that means everybody else is definitely inferior in comparison. But I don’t know how my ‘significant other’” – Draco made air quotes – “is faring. I haven’t seen or spoken to him since that day.“

At the last sentence Draco pouted a bit. He was accustomed to being wooed and Potter hadn’t even written one letter to him. Amused by the blondes sulking, Pansy wriggled her eyebrows, “Want to go to him now? I mean it’s tradition to visit his compartment every year.“

“That’s a good idea. We need to make a plan with Potter and his fanclub anyway for this whole house unity shit to work“, Blaise added helpfully.

Draco nodded and stood up, pointedly dignified. „Well then, let’s go grace those peasants with our humble presence“, he sniffed.

Blaise held the door open and said dramatically, “Your Highness.“ Draco curtseyed with a royal smile around his lips and stucked up his nose playfully in the air as he glided out of the compartment.
