Chapter 13
“KILL”
When Harry heard those words he ran, for the first time he did not care about looking weak. When he arrived in the common room, he realized how bad his back and legs hurt. It ached and he could feel the scabs threatening to break. Forcing himself to calm down he walked to the dorms, his lack of sleep finally catching up to him. However, Harry hoped he could snag a shower before he slept. Everyone seemed to be in the shower, Harry was annoyed that he had to wait for them to get out but did not comment. He hated the fact he had to share the shower with people, it was inconvenient as he didn’t want anyone to see the scars he has on his body. Thinking back to the incident he had the time to assess the situation. Either he was hearing things, or a snake was hiding in his vicinity and said that. He wondered why the snake would have said that if that’s what happened, he has met many of them, but they never actually went out of their way to kill things. Unless it was food. But why would a snake be searching for food in a school? Harry soon shrugged off the question and blamed his nervous tension. Somewhere in his thoughts Harry must have drifted off to sleep, not even caring about the shower anymore. He would take one in the morning.
----
Harry jolted awake after another dream about the mystery man, this time he was talking to someone. The conversation was serious he could tell by the look on the man’s face, but he couldn’t remember what they were talking about, he couldn’t even remember who he was talking to! It frustrated him to no end, at this point he would prefer nightmares about the orphanage. Focusing on his surroundings he could tell it was too early in the morning, all his housemates were sound asleep. Getting up to take a shower he became painfully aware that his back and legs were covered in blood. It had dried and had uncomfortable sticky feeling, gritting his teeth he quietly walked to the showers. While in the shower all he could focus on was the burning sensation and the water going down the drain. It was tainted a deep red; it gave Harry an odd sense of pleasure. He found it beautiful. When he finished, he got dressed in his school robes and decided to take a walk in the library. He might even go in the restricted section.
Grabbing his invisibility cloak he headed to the library, Hogwarts was always cold and dark during the nights. Harry loved it. When he entered, he saw the Ravenclaw girl, Luna Lovegood. Giving a small sigh he ignored her and scurried to the restricted section, he was quieter making sure she did not hear him. Luckily for Harry it seems she did not notice him, turning to the books he looked at the section of Dark creatures. He knew it wasn’t practical to learn but it still intrigued him, nonetheless. Picking up the book he quickly left the restricted section, just to see Lovegood directly looking at him. Harry cursed himself mentally, ‘how had she seen through my invisibility cloak??’ he thought frantically. Harry quickly but a wandless and wordless silencing charm on himself and darted to the exit. He was stopped when Lovegood stepped on the tip of his cloak causing the cloak to be ripped off his body.
“I knew it was you, and don’t worry I won’t tell anyone.” Lovegood said in a dreamy voice.
“How did you see me, and why did you confront me if you weren’t planning to tell on me anyway?” Harry questioned her while forcing his face to remain apathetic.
“I didn’t see you silly! Your brain is infested with nargles, I knew it was you because earlier you were infested as well. I wanted to meet you of course, I noticed you were staring at me.” The girl said giggling.
“I- okay shhhh! I was observing you earlier, you seem interesting. Anyway, I wanted to ask you this under better circumstances, but would you like to study with my friends and I this morning? I noticed that you didn’t seem to have any friends?”
Lovegood gave another giggle and said, “Sure, I will study with you this morning. Goodbye Mr. Harry sir!”
Harry gave a forced smile and said, “Just call me Harry, I’ll see you later.” And at those words Harry put his cloak on himself and left.
Arriving it the common room Harry decided to read his book, after all it was too late to go back to bed. Sighing, he opened the book and read on werewolves. Soon enough Harry could hear the other kids start to get ready, quickly entering the dorm Harry stealthily put his book in his trunk. It was too late to sneak back into the common room when Draco said,
“Jeez Harry how are already dressed for class? I’ve just woken up.” Quickly flicking his attention at Draco, he noticed, he was currently wearing black silk pajamas and his usual perfect blond hair was slightly ruffled.
“Yes, I woke up early. Couldn’t sleep.” Harry stated looking at the blond-haired boy.
Draco’s face soon contorted in worry, “Are you still having nightmares, Harry you’ve been having them since the first day of school. Now you come back after the summer, limping with a black eye, don’t you think you should be worried?” Draco exclaimed; Harry is starting to get annoyed with the blond, the man just does not understand boundaries.
“I’m fine, Draco. It’s the morning, get ready for the day. I’ll meet you in the Great Hall for breakfast.” Harry stated and left the room before Draco could respond.
When Harry arrived at the great hall he was already in great pain, luckily his wounds had not opened again. But still… He was still getting stares, but they weren’t as intense as last night. Sighing he walked over the Ravenclaw table, searching for Luna. She wasn’t too hard to find as all the other kids scooted away from her, causing a rather amusing scene. Walking over to her, ignoring the intense curious looks of the other Ravenclaws he told her,
“Hello Luna, do you want to sit with my friends and I? Since we’ll be studying it will be best if you guys are already acquainted.” Observing Luna, he noticed a dreamy smile spread across her face.
She stared at him for a bit, making Harry slightly uncomfortable, before speaking, “Yes, thank you.” She quickly grabbed her things and followed Harry to the Slytherin table. The other Slytherins were glaring at Luna, while looking curiously looking at Harry at the same time. Luna seemed oblivious to it all, while Harry just ignored them. Neville, Theo, and surprisingly Blaise Zabini were already sitting down. Harry and Luna sat down across from them.
Harry noted Luna looking at Neville’s Gryffindor robes curiously. Harry thought it was quite amusing to watch the two react to each other. Neville seemed shocked to see another person that wasn’t in the Slytherin house sitting with them, while Luna seemed shocked that a Gryffindor was sitting with them. Neville gave a shy smile and said, “I see you are another person who isn’t in Slytherin sitting the snakes! My name is Neville Longbottom, call me Neville though. You are Luna Lovegood I presume?”
Luna nodded and stated, “Yes, I will be studying with you this morning apparently as well. Harry wanted us to be familiar so it wouldn’t be awkward.” Harry inwardly chuckled, the poor girl didn’t seem to have basic social skills.
Zabini rolled his eyes and said, “Potter and his savior complex, of course you’ll take the odd ball of a student and take them in. First Longbottom, now some random first year?”
Luna stared at Zabini with glazed eyes, while Neville and Theo paled. The majority of Slytherins had accepted Neville as an odd family member, but a few. Zabini was one of the few. Harry’s face remained impassive even though his mind was raging.
“Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I would however appreciate it if you would be nice to them, they are just as much human.” Harry stated, not in the mood to cause a fight.
Zabini only rolled his eyes and nodded in agreement. Five minutes later he noticed Draco enter the Great Hall. The blond quickly walked to Harry and his friends, he immediately eyed Luna. Draco didn’t seem to be too surprised or angry about it. Draco quickly sat down and said, “Hello, who are you? My name is Draco Malfoy, but you probably knew that. After all I am a part of a noble family.” Harry inwardly cringed at the arrogance but did not comment.
“My name is Luna Lovegood. Nice to meet you Draco.” Luna said.
Draco stared at her in deep thought, Harry assumed he didn’t recognize the last name and was probably pondering is she was a ‘mudblood’ or not. His assumptions were proven to be correct when he said, “I vaguely remember your name, is your father Xenophilius Lovegood? He works in the Quibbler magazines, correct?”
Luna nodded but did not say anything, Draco huffed and went to put food on his plate.
After breakfast they went to the library to study for a bit before class. To be honest he was dreading defense against the dark arts, Lockhart seemed like a complete idiot and fraud. Not only that but he was a pedophile, he just hoped that the man didn’t target him. Fifteen minutes later it was time for class. They parted ways with Luna, who had Herbs with the Hufflepuffs. When they finally arrived, they were greeted by a room with portraits of Lockhart all over the walls. If Harry didn’t know better the man seemed to have some underlying mental condition other than narcissism, as for Lockhart himself he is standing by a cage full of pixies.
Lockhart said in his usual arrogant tone, “As most of you know Pixies are extremely feisty creatures. They may not seem dangerous but trust me, they are.” Lockhart stopped talking for a second as he gazed around the room for a brief moment, who soon made direct eye contact with Harry. The man gave a sick smile and continued, “I’ll need a brave strong student to open this cage for me, after all pixies will attack the closest thing to themselves! Anyone?”
At his words almost all the student raised their arms, excluding Harry and a few other Slytherins. Of course, Lockhart stared at Harry longingly before saying, “Harry Potter why don’t you open the cage? All the other teachers claim you are some prodigy.” Everyone moaned in annoyance, Harry remained impassive.
Granger yelled, “But sir! His hand wasn’t even raised.” Lockhart ignored her and Harry soon walked up to the cage. Annoyingly enough Lockhart didn’t even step back, so Harry was uncomfortably close to the man. Opening the cage, the pixies did as Lockhart said, and they rammed into Harry before he could react. Lockhart grabbed harry to “make sure he doesn’t fall down” but Harry could feel how Lockhart’s hands wrapped around his waist, pulling him close to the older man’s body. By this point the pixies were gone and started to harass other things and Harry jerked away. Casting a wandless and wordless spell all the pixies fell and died. Luckily for him Lockhart took claim of his actions, and he needn’t explain to anyone he could do wandless magic.
After that all the classes went as usual, he got perfect grades and earned his house a lot of points. Lunch to went uneventful as well, the only difference is that Luna, and Neville sat with them again. The two seemed have gotten along very quickly. It was obvious because Neville liked to eat breakfast with the Slytherins but usually for the rest of the meals he sat with the Gryffindors. Potions however have proven to be different, Professor Snape was acting odd, and he even randomly took five points from his house, and then gave Harry detention. Hell, even the Gryffindors tried to defend him. After all he did nothing, usually Professor Snape will give some stupid excuse, but this time he gave none. Just did it.
After school was over and it was time for dinner Harry, it quiet yet comfortable. Luna was sitting with them again, and Neville was sitting with the Gryffindors. Draco, Theo, and Parkinson could tell Harry was in no talking mood. ‘That was probably why Parkinson decided to sit with us’ Harry pondered to himself. Finally, dinner was over, and it was time for detention with Snape.
The halls where dark and the moon seemed to have brought some rays of light in the building, other than the candles of course. Halfway through the corridor he heard the voice again, stopping in his tracks he heard,
“KILL, BLOOD, MUDBLOODS”
Looking around to find the culprit of these words, he noticed a line of spiders exiting through a small crack in the window. The fear from yesterday’s incident had desensitized him from the voice. It was very rare for Harry to get scared, let alone get scared by the same thing twice. The voice still unnerved him, but it didn’t give him bone crushing fear anymore.
He was quickly snapped out of his thoughts when he heard Mr. Filch scream, “OH MY GOD, YOU KILLED HER!” Snapping around Harry saw Mr. Filch’s cat seemingly dead hanging on a candle hook. The walls by the cat were written in blood and it said,
“CHAMBER OF SECRETS HAVE BEEN OPENED ENIMIES OF THE HEIR… BEWARE”
Harry froze, he noticed behind Mr. Filch was a group of students and teachers staring at him with wide eyes. Breaking out of his trance of shock Harry quickly calmed himself down then defended himself by saying in an impassive tone, “I can assure you I did not do this. I was going to Professor Snape’s office when I saw this.”
Mr. Filch glared at him, his eyes all big and teary eyed. He soon said in a voice full of hatred and distain, “I know it was you!” Right before Mr. Filch could continue, Dumbledor arrived at the scene. Mr. Filch took this as an opportunity to say, “Albus, punish him! He killed my cat and wrote with her blood like some kind of psychopath!”
The twinkle in Dumbledore’s eye faded and morphed into shock and horror, he quickly gained his composure though. “No student could have done this, Argus. And your cat doesn’t seem dead, she’s petrified.”
Mr. Filch turned a disgusting shade of red and yelled, “I WILL GET YOU FOR THIS!” And promptly stormed away. Hot tears and everything.
Sighing Harry turned over to look at his friends, Draco was smiling and was spouting off some nonsense about blood purity to Crabbe and Goyle who seemed to be enthusiastically agreeing. Theo looked slightly unnerved did his best to look impassive, he was not talking but remained silent. Before Harry could make any more observations Professor Snape pulled him by his arm and started to drag him to his office.
When they got there, he was quickly pushed into his seat and Professor Snape sneered, “Take off your shirt, Potter. You are clearly injured. I will not have one of my Slytherins roaming around limping and avoiding moving their back.”
Harry’s face remained impassive but inwardly he was shocked. He obeyed without word though, even if he hated displaying his weakness’s. It's not like he had a choice anyway. Professor Snape seemed to have been taken aback before it morphed into a growl, he then said, “Of course it would be Potter to avoid medical treatment because of his Gryffindor-like pride. Pathetic.” He paused for a moment and grabbed a potion and forced it in his hands. Harry drank it, he was smart enough to know that arguing would do nothing.
The older man continued his rant as he growled, “If you think I’ll ask you about it and give you sympathy, you are wrong. Whatever happened you probably deserved it. I may not support corporal punishment, but I know it's useful for boys like you.” Harry bit his tongue to not respond, he is usually more composed. But the Professor is starting to hit sensitive subjects, and mock him for it, nonetheless.
The older man grabbed a container of some sort and handed it to Harry and sneered, “Come here tomorrow and I shall put it on your back, I trust you can apply it to your legs by yourself.” And with that the Professor applied it to his back, completely humiliating him in the process. He suspects Professor Snape realized this due to his smug smile on his face.
---
When he arrived at the common room Harry was greeted by a bouncing Draco, and his friends seeming relatively pleased. Harry sighed, he hated seeing this side to his friends. Especially because going by their own political beliefs they think they are ‘superior’ to him. He knows it's not what his friends believe but based off their beliefs that what they should believe.
“Can’t you believe this? The heir of Slytherin is somewhere in these dorms! He’ll cleanse our school from all those filthy mudblo-“ Draco paled and stopped himself, seemingly realizing who he’s talking to.
Harry stared at the ashamed looking Draco with cold dark eyes before stating, “You know I’m a half blood, do you really not find me worthy enough to be in this school? Draco I must say I’m rather disappointed in your bigotry.”
Draco sputtered but soon said, “Yeah but your different! You’re not like Granger, or colin Creevey. Also don’t get on me for bigotry when you hate muggles!”
Harry snarled, the embarrassment and anger from earlier bubbling to the surface once again. If it were any other day, he would have shrugged him off, but a dark wave flooded through him. “Yes, you are correct, I loathe muggles. But I actually have a reason for that, for once muggles aren’t even magical, and they all have a piss poor mindset. I have yet to meet a decent muggle. And it’s not like I want them all killed, I just want to kill off half of them and enslave the rest! You have not met them; you just hate them because your father said you should. How is it a Muggleborns fault that their parents are muggles? You do realize how rampant inbreeding is in pureblood families, and how the magic lines would die out without Muggleborns and half-bloods? Did you know your soon-to-be-wife is a distant relative? Yeah, she’s your fourth cousin! I mean it's not even uncommon for purebloods to be either weak, stupid, or have physical deformity! I mean look at Crabbe and Goyle, and Marcus Flint! Pure-blood politics make no sense because in the end if you had your way in a few generations all your fucking children would be squibs! If you don’t believe me look at the family lines, Draco. Did you know that we are actually related as well? Five generation ago a Black had a child with a Potter, Your Mother, Narcissa, is literally related to Bellatrix. WHO WAS IN THE BLACK FAMILY!” Harry screamed, his magic was whirling around the room breaking minor objects, like quills and books.
Everyone in the common room was pale and faint at the sudden realization Harry was correct, Draco looked terrified as well. He could feel Harry’s magic, it was almost choking him. Draco finally whispered, “Yes, you are right… I- I’m going to send a letter to father about it.” He quietly walked out of the common room and headed to the dorms. Harry gave another Snarl and left the room, not even bothering about his invisibility cloak. When he exited his magic lashed out again and tore down anything that was on the walls, and furniture flew backwards. Leaving some very stunned Slytherins.
